    Grissom apparently is done with his Worcester rehab/spring training and will be up with the big club tomorrow. Cooper should also be added to the active roster, so two moves coming.

    I made post 82 but didn’t realize Joely had already been DFA’d. Uwasara is a lefty, but I’m not sure that would have been the spot for his debut. I looked back and you did indeed post about your concerns with keeping Martin in in real time. Kudos to you for that; you are not a 20-20 hindsight guy as so many others here are.

    Duran got away with it, but he made a mistake on the game winning play. He was not tagging up on O’Neill’s hit. If Swanson catches it, he doesn’t score. If he’s tagging, even if Swanson catches it, there is almost no way Duran gets thrown out at the plate.

    Incorrect. Martin was not forced to face Tauchman. He got the last out in the 7th and then allowed the two hits to start the 8th, so he had faced his 3 batters. Both hits were bloops, so it’s not like he was being line drived to death. I had no issue with him facing Tauchman. If Cora brings in a lefty, it’s either Bernardino, who pitched yesterday, or Rodriguez, who gave up 3 runs in an inning on Friday and whose performance this season needs no further comment. Tauchman got him, it happens.

    Cooper’s got to get to Boston first; he wasn’t on the Cubs active roster so he’s either still in Chicago or maybe back home (wherever that is). We will likely find out tomorrow.

    You can probably count the number of players in the majors who can consistently bunt for a base hit on two hands, and I mean that’s across all 30 teams.

    Like I said, Dalbec doesn’t need help to strike out; he can do it just fine all on his own. He did need help to reach first base and that time he got it.

    He’s always seemed to have that issue; even back when he had his good 1/2 season, BD had a lot of borderline pitches go against him. It’s not like he complains constantly. Like you said, he’ll K enough on his own. He doesn’t need help. He really ought to consider getting aggressive on the first pitch. Pitchers are just throwing it down the middle because he takes it 95% of the time.

    Other than preventing Morgan from hitting a likely Series clinching homer, sure. Evans himself has said it wasn’t the best catch he ever made, but it was the most important. If you’ve never seen it, there’s a video on you tube where Dewey describes the catch and why it looked so awkward. Worth spending 5 minutes on if you’ve never seen it.

    Last Red Sox complete game shutout was Michael Wacha at the Angels a couple years ago. The last one at Fenway was the immortal Brian Johnson in 2017 against Seattle.

    I won’t take credit for it; the radio guys mentioned it. If you think about it, it makes sense, because that type of wind up really could be deceptive to the baserunners.

    When a pitcher uses the sideways type windup (the type that looks a lot like a stretch position), he has to declare which one he is throwing out of with men on base. I think Lively failed to do this; that may have been the reason the balk was called.

    It’s amazing how often those shots off Red Sox bats are foul and how often when they’re off opponents bats they stay fair.

    Definitely a fierce competitor; as I recall, he played for the Harlem Globetrotters one off season. Supposedly he quit because he couldn’t stand the clowning.

    That’s how bad everybody’s offense was in the Year of the Pitcher. Yaz won the AL batting title that year with a .301 average. Cater was second at .290. Only 4 or 5 guys broke .300 in the NL.

    A little before my time; was he a 1 inning guy or did he go multiple innings?

    In 1968, Bob Gibson of the Cardinals went 22-9 with a 1.12 ERA. He was never removed from the mound during an inning that entire season. In fact, the only time he was ever removed from a game was when he was pinch hit for.

    30 years, I’d say. Maybe 35 or 40. When I was a kid, closers often went multiple innings. Guys like Goose Gossage and Rollie Fingers would routinely go 2 or even more to finish a game. Of course, starting pitcher often went, wait for it, 9 innings or sometimes more. One of the most memorable games I ever listened to was a game from Anaheim, had to be 1973 or 1974. Nolan Ryan vs. Luis Tiant. Angels won it in 15, with Tiant going the distance for the Sox. Ryan was removed kicking and screaming after only 12 or 13.

    At least Kenley had a past; Dalbec had what, a half a year? Bobby’s much more of a neverwas.
