  1. It’s called pitching. No two pitches in the same place, no two pitches at the same speed. More pitchers need to learn to do it.
  2. Be glad most of you get the NESN broadcast. I have watch the MLB Network one with Costas and Kaat. I can live with Kaat, who actually offers some insight and isn’t much of a cheerleader, but Costas’ Yankee fandom is sickening.
  3. With the Yankees pen, the Sox are in big trouble now.
  4. He usually does. When I was a kid maybe 11-14 or so, maybe 1970-73, the Red Sox absolutely could do nothing with Gaylord Perry, who was near the end of his career. I mean like he would shut them out a couple times a year and they get 1 or 2 runs at most a couple other times. They could not beat him. The current Sox against CC the past few years remind of those days.
  5. Oh yes he can. This guy has had a big strike zone, but it’s been consistently big. Bucknor’s is like an accordion.
  6. A lot of pitchers could take a lesson from CC on how to PITCH. You don’t have to strike everyone out.
  7. I know today’s players won’t do it, but the Sox really ought to think about moving up in the box a little. It might allow them to get to some of those pitches before the late break. CC isn’t going to throw it by them consistently.
  8. Interesting they are using multiple signs with no one on. They don’t appear to trust the Yankees.
  9. Let’s see, a relatively soft tossing lefty who changes speeds and generally has good control. What could possibly go wrong?
  10. Hard to believe that she would be about 80 now.
  11. Saw an interesting tidbit this morning: as soon as he appears in a game, Pearce will have played for all 5 AL East teams
  12. The announcers were talking about Phillips on the radio braodcast the other night; the speculation was he has some sort of "up or out" clause in that he has to be brought up by such and such an date or Phillips has the right to ask to be released; pretty standard with veterans. They were thinking mid July could be the timeframe.
  13. Yep (and if Castillo is put back on the 40 man, his $ count going forward as well). I asked the other day, but I think the only way Pedroia's contract won't count is if he voluntarily walks away (ala Dempster). If he's forced to retire due to injury, it counts. Other than another team picking up the entire contract (and why would they), his salary is on the books no matter what.
  14. Hey, we could even throw in Scott or Haley but I wouldn’t tell the Angels that in the beginning.
  15. Price appears to be successfully transitioning from the fireballer he once was into a guy who changes speeds and pitches to more contact. That bodes well for the life of his contract at least for being able to pitch effectively.
  16. Not quite true, I have seen some sprints in the last few hundred yards if the race is very close. But they sure as heck don’t sprint anywhere from miles 0-26, just the last 385 yards.
  17. Question on Pedroia’s contract and the luxury tax limits. What happens if he retires? Does the reason for retirement make a difference? I recall a few years ago that when Dempsey retired, the Sox got salary relief. But that was a voluntary decision by Dempster. If Pedroia is medically forced to retire, is it treated differently?
  18. Also have to remember ERod was next up in the rotation. While overall he has been pretty good this season, a manager still has to figure he’s going to need at least 3 pen innings in any Rodriguez start. Could have been part of Cora’s thinking.
  19. Yep. When balls hit the base and carom right to a fielder, it’s definitely your night.
  20. Cruz needs to hit the deck tomorrow; he is waaay too comfortable up there.
  21. Incorrect. He pitched in 1 game in 1940, allowing 1 run on 3 hits over 2 innings. It was his only appearance on the mound.
  22. Natick really needs to learn the value of an unexpressed thought.
  23. I would argue that JD’s hand was pushed off the base with the glove.
  24. Maybe these guys ought to slide feet first. The feet/ankles are built to take a lot more abuse than the hand/wrist.
