  1. He's in to try and finish the inning. But it does mean Velazquez will see extensive duty tonight and that ain't good.
  2. We got Braves-Cards where I am; what happened to Price?
  3. Williams wasn’t fired until 1969.
  4. There are a lot of really good CFs right now; too many Sox fans just don’t want to hear it.
  5. Applying the same logic, so should have Franconia. But does 2007 happen without him?
  6. The difference in this game is defense, pure and simple.
  7. 2 earned runs for the Astro’s; the one that scored on Bogie’s throw was earned since the runner would have scored anyway even had the throw been perfect. But the throw allowed the trail runner to get to 3rd where he scored on the sac fly.
  8. Wasn’t even a strike.
  9. Thornburg has been scored on in 9 of his now 16 appearances. He’s had 2 clean innings all year.
  10. It’s the same crap Mr. Twitter spews all the time. You can always tell when the Sox are losing; the number of d-money posts increases exponentially. Luckily I no longer see them except if somebody responds with quote.
  11. Holt does have one option left. He also has just over 5 years service time, which means he can’t be sent down without his consent.
  12. Walden faces one hitter. He’s pitched 2 innings or more a few times this year. How is he used up?
  13. Per Baseball Almanac, it the 4th time and ties the record. First time it's been done in 11 innings (the others took 20, 18 and 12 innings). It probably won't count, but the record for strikeouts in 9 innings is 20. That's been done 5 times individually and once as a team. Sox pitchers had 21 Ks tonight thru 9 innings.
  14. Plus high school state titles his last 2 years at that level. One of his high school teammates was Frank Robinson.
  15. I Thanks, knew it was something like that. For the youngsters, examples from the Year of the Pitcher: Yaz won the AL batting title with a .301 average. The second place guy hit .290. Denny McLain won 31 games for the Tigers. Bob Gibson went 22-9 with a 1.12 ERA for the Cardinals. I’ve still never figured out how he lost 9 games that year. The All-Star game was 1-0on an unearned run. They lowered the mound from 15 inches to inches after that season and offense went up quite a bit in 1969.
  16. I do remember George Scott hitting something like .175 one year; I want to say it was 1968.
  17. Hope they saved some of these runs for me to see.
  18. As a retirement/Christmas present, my son got me tickets to Saturday’s game. I fly to Boston Friday while he travels up from Atlanta. First trip to Fenway in nearly 30 years.
  19. How do you get Mirasmelly from Mientkiewicz?
  20. Yeah, I saw that but I’m wasn’t sure if monkey meat would be a tasty addition to the smorgasbord. Edit - I guess gibbons are actually apes, so I really don’t know if they are edible.
  21. Not to mention Al Olive® and Al (Mc)Bean. And if you really want to stretch it, Freddie Pate(k).
  22. Be interesting to see how Barnes reacts to sitting that long.
  23. I see we have another poster who is invisible when things are going well but magically shows up when games go a little south.
  24. Elroy Face went 18-1 for the 1959 Pirates, all in relief.
  25. Had he maintained the numbers he put up in Boston, he would have been in HOF conversation. He didn’t once he left and I agree, he really wasn’t that close all things considered.
