  1. Wasn’t the commissioner, it was the players association. They wouldn’t let him reduce his contract.
  2. Ryu is a damn good pitcher. You’ll note his ERA coming in was sub 2.00. I don’t care what league you’re in, that’s dealing and he’s been doing it all year.
  3. You have a very warped view of not good. They are very good, especially their starting pitching.
  4. Joe Morgan? You’ve got to be kidding me. His analysis came down to no hitter ever got a base hit on anything other than a mistake by the pitcher, except if you played for the Big Red Machine. Miller was excellent; I still remember the couple years he spent as the Red Sox radio guy.
  5. Dodgers have fouled off a lot of 2 strike pitches tonight. I remember when the good guys used to do that.
  6. IIRC, Ichiro sported one for many years. BTW, Ryu is Korean.
  7. And high stress ones at that.
  8. I don’t mind the play by play guy. I can handle Mendoza, although she is adding less and less all the time, probably because ARod never shuts up.
  9. Dodgers scored on a walk, a Bogaerts error and a pop fly passed the Pesky Pole.
  10. Not sure Bogie got in on that one, at least live.
  11. The Betts of last year scores on that.
  12. It’ll be overturned but how in the world does the ump miss that one?
  13. Is it me or do opponents seem to hit a lot more homers around the Pesky Pole than the Sox do?
  14. Beat me to it. I was figuring 70 games would mean 14-15 starts, or 6+ per start; he was averaging about 5 2/3 with the O’s so it could be tight, especially if one of the main 4 miss any time.
  15. All that can be said about this game is all the warts showed up tonight. Frankly, I’d rather they all be at once rather than crappy starting pitching one game, lousy relief pitching a different night and no offense a third, which could mean 3 Ls instead of 1.
  16. He makes the plays on the balls he gets to. But he doesn't to as many as most other guys. Many of the spectacular plays we see would be a lot more routine for better fielders (hmm, sound like anyone we mocked for years and years).
  17. You’re going to have to give up something for Renfroe. The Padres aren’t the 1950s KC Athletics. What reasonable deal would you make?
  18. 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018 all happened on FOX but I get your sentiment.
  19. So who goes to make room? Velazquez or Wright would seem to be the leading candidates,
  20. You do realize Vazquez can’t catch every game, right?
  21. Cashner is 9-3 with A sub 4 ERA and averages 6 innings per start for the effing Orioles. I know W-L isn’t that important but the O’s have won like 30 games all year. Who cares if he doesn’t strike people out, he’s getting opponents out at a pretty decent rate.
  22. Actually, it would mean he’d been traded. Rochester was the O’s AAA team for forever but it’s been a Twins affiliate for at least 15 years now.
  23. Ryan was a freak of nature. Yes, he could throw 100+. WHEN HE WANTED TO. But he didn't try to throw every pitch that hard. That's the difference between today's "pitchers" and the guys from years ago. I recall a game against the Red Sox where he threw something like 230 pitches over 13 innings (in the same game, Luis Tiant was a complete game loser in a 15 inning Angel win).
  24. That's not going to keep us under the second tier. Castillo is owed around $25 million through 2021 and the second he is brought up to the majors, it goes against the Sox cap if we are eating the salary. The only way he goes anywhere is if the other team takes the whole contract and that's not going to happen at his cost.
