Carlos Rodon tossed the 20th no-hitter in White Sox history last night vs. the Guardians. A ninth inning HBP prevented a perfect game. I assume he will be on the hill for Chicago on Patriots Day.

Because once the White Sox added him to their 40 man roster when they called him up in August 2010, he was never sent to the minors again. He never burned even one option year (technically, he has 3 remaining). Any time spent in the minors before you are added to the 40 man are not option years. Any years you spend in the minors after you are added do. There is another provision though, once you have 5 years in the big leagues, you can’t be sent down without your permission. So while Sale has 3 options remaining, they are meaningless. Ditto a guy like Bogaerts.

You burn an option every year you are sent down after being placed on the 40 man roster. You don’t have to be called up to the big club for that to kick in. Teams will generally wait to put youngsters on the 40 man until they are ready to call them up for the first time.

Of course, if the ground ball doesn't hit 2nd base, it's a DP and Andriese pitches 3 scoreless.

The Alou brothers (Felipe, Matty and Jesus) all played for the Giants in 1963. After Jesus came up late that season, the three of them played together in the outfield at the same time a few times, although they never started a game together. Felipe’s son Moises also played in the majors.

It hits even harder when it’s somebody you knew. I lost one of my ND roommates earlier this year (non-Covid). That was a real punch in the gut.

Assuming you are referring to the late 50’s/early 60’s Yankees using the KC franchise as a major league farm club, that was the Athletics, not the Royals.

Why doesn’t everyone just put this clown (the OP) on ignore? At least we would be spared reading his pathetic cries for attention and the constant I’m not posting until ... or I’m going to stop being a fan. I know ignore isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but some people just seem to deserve it. My apologies to clowns everywhere.

Never, ever sign ex-Yankees, especially long time members of the Evil empire. The stench is too great. Plus they never seem to do as well once the pinstripes come off. Players who basically had a cup of coffee with them are okay. Anything longer than a year, forget it.

Right now they have to; everyone on the 60 day DL must go on the 40 man or be DFA'd. Thems the rules. If he retires, they'll likely pay him whatever he's owed for this year (even if it's spread out over several years) and free up the spot.

Not defending the move, I think it was stupid. But the Dodgers relievers have completely shut them down, and LA has too much firepower to hold down forever.

We can complain about the Snell move all we want, but the Rays have scored 1 run, which is almost never enough. Edit - Naturally Smoltz makes this point as I’m typing this.

The real question is will Roberts overmanage and bring in Jansen. Urias has been lights out and is a starter, so he is physically and mentally capable of going one more.

There were multiple reports at the time that Bard asked to become a starter; the Red sox did not have to acquiesce to that request, but it sure didn't seem at the time that they went to him and told him he was going to become one. And he was already showing signs of losing it in September 2011. He blew multiple games that month. In 11 games and 11 innings, he went 0-3 with 3 blown saves and a 10.64 ERA, walking more batters that one month than he had the rest of the season combined. Now, whether that was due to overwork (he ended up pitching in 70 games that year, losing it or some combination of the two we will never know, but it was awful and contributed a lot to the Sox collapse that season.
