    Minor league seasons ended last Monday; everyone who is going to come up is up. Plus if they bring up Dalbec, et al now, do they lose a year of control (I honestly don’t know)?

    They want to keep him. But he has to show something offensively to justify it. Platooning is an attempt to do that, and he’s blowing that chance as well.

    I’ll disagree somewhat on the Buchholz analogy. Yes, they both get hurt s lot. But Clay seemingly would only want to pitch when he felt 100%. There is no indication of Moreland milking an injury or only going when perfect. He often played hurt to the detriment of the club and himself (remember that broken toe from a couple years ago that he tried to play through?).

    From the standpoint of a game thread, yes. Has nothing to do with the game. I don’t care if someone’s the most ardent (insert name of current Democratic politician), a never Trumper, a sometimes Trumper or a always Trumper, when it comes to the game thread, I’ll loosely borrow from Hyman Roth in Godfather II: The game thread is about the game. Politics has no business in it because politics has nothing to do with the game.

    Platoon situation. Going into this game, JBJ lifetime vs. Happ was 2-17, Travis was 2-3. Travis has had pretty good numbers against southpaw starters this year, JBJ has been terrible. Now, if you had said Travis should have been in left, Beni in center, Mookie in right and JD at dh, I’d agree.

    Vazquez really looks like he could use a few days completely off. Even his “off” days he’s been in the line-up at 1B or dh.

    Doesn’t matter how he’s done this year. It only mattered how he was today and today he was very, very good. Why is it so hard for many fans here to admit that sometimes the other guy pitched well?

    Right. Happ has nothing to do with it. He was on today and when he’s on, he’s very, very good. Like I said, between this game and his last start against Oakland, he’s pitched 12 1/3 shutout innings and given up 3 hits.

    Wasn’t much there to take. He had some nasty movement and was commanding it. Held Oakland to 1 hit over 6 his last time out as well, so it wasn’t just today.

    Unfortunately for the Sox, good Happ showed up today. He really hasn’t given the Sox hitters much.

    And Brewer only made the one bad pitch to Encarnacion. The double that scored 2 was a weak fluky hit that could have been caught. Can’t really blame the pitcher on that one.

    This year. Last year the throw would have hit a pebble and deflected far enough away to allow the run to score.

    More to the point the Twins pitching was really good tonight. What blew it was 9 walks by Red Sox pitching.

    Nothing wrong with trying to score the run there. The LF has to field it cleanly and make a good throw to home where the catcher has to field it and make the tag. The Twins did all three and made the play. Sometimes that happens.
