  1. Pablo is putting in full effort and I applaud that and back him fully. He has always been an up and down player in his career and in each season. He is also a free swinger which can be a big weakness especially after such a long layoff. He is not going to transform into something he never was and at this point in his career we really have to temper our expectations. I feel the same way about Hanley. The Sox FO made a mistake picking up these two at the wrong point in their careers. Physical issues have hampered the performances of both of them, but Hanley did show he still has something left in his bat last season. We need both of them to stay healthy this season to maximize their contributions to the team. I am cautiously optimistic about both of them coming through this season.
  2. Yes, I heard Arod and he is very good. I can't stand him but if he is a good commentator I will listen to him any day over the many poor ones out there.
  3. Even without Price, the Sox have a very strong rotation. When Price returns, even if he only performs up to last season's level, it makes the rotation even stronger. As long as they remain relatively healthy, this starting staff should carry us to another first place finish. With the addition of Sale, they should do much better in the playoffs. I hope I'm not jinxing them with my optimism, but this starting rotation is built to win.
  4. Sale is cruising. I'm gonna love watching him pitch. He's the real deal.
  5. Leon ran the stop sign. Lucky he wasn't hurt. Boneheaded play by Sandy.
  6. Yes, this is a must win. The Yankees won their second game so Sox have to win to be sure to stay ahead of them. Pressure is on this season. Expectations are sky high.
  7. I'm not crying.
  8. I thought you might like this article on Foxx. He was a great all around ballplayer. http://sabr.org/research/real-jimmie-foxx
  9. Has anyone stated the obvious reason the Sox lost to Cleveland? They were beaten by the genius of Terry Francona.
  10. You are right. Those were tough games against a tough opponent that had a lot at stake. The Sox in no way, shape, or form rolled over to the Jays. Hard fought games that didn't all go our way. No indication that the effort wasn't there.
  11. Trout is arguably the best player in the AL. MVP is not simply for the best player. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. That is the argument against Trout winning it. Maybe they need a new award for best player. That said, I don't give a crap about any individual awards in sports, in entertainment, in the arts, etc. We live in a world where "Dances With Wolves" won Best Picture over "Goodfellas". Barack Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize before becoming President. Derek Jeter won 5 Gold Glove awards! You get the picture. Here is a great quote form Annie Hall on awards: "Awards! They always give out awards! I can't believe it. Greatest Fascist Dictator: Adolf Hitler." Awards prove nothing at all. They are not proof of greatness or accomplishment. Performance is not measured by awards, but by results.
  12. Ortiz for MVP! If any DH can break through it is him. Then on to break into the Hall of Fame. DH should be given as much consideration as any other position or role on the team. He elevated the position to its highest level.
  13. Being "best" on the team or in the league doesn't automatically make you a top contender for MVP. MVP has nothing to do with being ranked "best". http://bbwaa.com/voting-faq/
  14. I'm not surprised you have mentioned Pedroia. It seems like he is kind of overlooked this season with all the excitement over the young players. I'm glad to at least get people taliking about him. This season has been a great resurgence for him. He, like Ortiz, has had some health issues that caused me to worry about where his career was heading. But like Ortiz, he has proven he still has a lot of great baseball left in him. I have never admired Pedroia more than this season.
  15. I think Ortiz deserves it for this season alone. Pedroia has been a key player in his own way.
  16. Ortiz is the man in 2016. He came out of the gate strong and stayed strong. He is the MVP. No one has mentioned Pedroia but he is a close second or third. He has had one of his best seasons and played strong from start to finish. He is the forgotten man in all this MVP talk. Yes, Mookie is deserving too. But the two stalwart veterans really performed consistently at a high level all season while the youngsters were wowing the fans.
  17. It's not a fuzzy story at all. Ortiz is a leader. No one has contributed more than him this season.
  18. You sure brought back a lot of memories with this post. Mad Magazine, the Sporting News, transistor radio, and Dr. J and the ABA; all very important parts of my youth. Those were good times.
  19. Ortiz is not only performing great, he is the heart and soul of the team. That counts for plenty in my book.
  20. Not a shaky outcome at all. Ortiz is very valuable to the success of this team.
  21. Kimmi, here is an article that backs your view. MVP is not necessarily a "best" season or player award according to the criteria used in voting for them. Your thinking is right on the money! american-league-mvp-selection
  22. I don't like the way Farrell stands and watches the game. He doesn't rock back and forth and spit enough.
  23. Sox are a good team with talent to burn. Losing (and winning) close games seems to be part of the randomness of baseball. In a single game, a bad team can beat a good team in a tight game. The good teams probably win more blowouts.
  24. I hope Clay keeps on improving his trade value while helping the team make the playoffs.
