  1. I think Bogey has great speed and would be ideal at leadoff.
  2. I'm disappointed with Porcello's performance against the Yankees, even if the outcome was inevitable with the way C.C. was pitching. The worst moment was when he shook off Leon 3 times then gave up the HR to Carter. Rick is really putting up some of the worst numbers of his career so far this season. He needs to watch film of himself from last season to figure out what he did right and try to approximate it.
  3. After the double, the tying run was at the plate for two batters. Then Barnes got two outs while the runner moved to third. Why is that situation so critical for Kimbrel to have to come into the game?
  4. It was not a critical situation. Sox were up by two runs with a man on 3rd and two outs. The game was not really in jeopardy at that point.
  5. Barnes threw 16 pitches to 3 batters. Kimbrel wound up facing 5 batters and throwing 30 pitches. After the fluke strikeout that went bad, he walked the next batter in the eighth, putting the tying run on base. I'd rather be sure to have Kimbrel available for the next game than Barnes.
  6. Very small sample sizes. Can't conclude a whole lot from them.
  7. Why didn't your trust him? After the double he got a ground ball out and a popup.
  8. Other than allowing the double, Barnes was pitching good and I thought he could get out of the jam. And I didn't want to have Kimbrel throw too many pitches.
  9. Pomerantz gets a passing grade from me for last nights game. However, his pitch got got too high too fast. I wanted to see him at least get into the 6th inning. A good outing, but there is a bit of room for improvement. Pom is still on a pretty good roll. For the most part I like what I saw from the bullpen. Really loved how Kelly and Kimbrel handled Judge. Great stuff!
  10. My issue was doing it while being behind a run with two outs in the inning.
  11. I think he should have left Barnes in to get the final out of the 8th.
  12. And so far this season he has hit much worse against LHP than RHP. Go figure.
  13. Not necessarily so. It depends on how big a lead the base runner takes. You still don't want them to get too big a jump on a hit.
  14. Napoli's lifetime avg. of pitches per plate appearance is 4.37. JBJ's is 3.9.
  15. Let's just say it would require special conditions to do it. For example, if the game is tied or if you are ahead, the risk is not as bad as far as impacting the game outcome.
  16. I love how JBJ's bat heated up around the time Beni was struggling. His numbers are rising fast.
  17. It's not the steal attempt but the game situation it happened in. The Sox had just scored to come within one run. They had a base runner on. The best way to get him home is for the batter(s) behind him to get on base safely. So if Rutledge gets on base it is up to the next batter. As long as you don't make the last out, you have a chance to score the tying run.
  18. I'm just saying I didn't like the move and I don't know if Farrell made the call. Whether or not JBJ stole the base a hitter after him would still have to get on base safely for the Sox to have a chance to score. JBJ is not going to steal his way home. With two outs, the best way to get him home is for following batters to reach base safely. (Yes, there are other scenarios involving wild pitches and passed balls, but these seem like a greater long shot.) Bottom line, if JBJ stays put on first the tying run remains on base until the last out is made. Stealing is always a risk and a worse risk with two outs.
  19. Big test coming up for some pitchers that we aren't sure of so far. Pomerantz, Porcello and Price will face a stiff test against the potent Yankee offense. Pom has been much better lately so we'll see if he's really turned the corner. Porcello needs to regain some of the form he had last year if he wants to succeed against the Yanks. And Price is just getting his feet under him so it could be a tough outing for him. The Yankees high scoring offense will really provide an acid test for the Sox pitching staff.
  20. Hers is an example of an in game decision I am critical of Farrell, if he made the call. June 2nd game against the Orioles, top of the seventh, Sox down 3-1. With two outs JBJ singles home Bogaerts who had doubled to lead off the inning. With Rutledge up to bat, JBJ attempts a steal and is thrown out. The tying run is on base and you give it away trying to "make something happen" and instead you end the inning. Bad move IMO.
  21. I hope Porcello can start to more closely approximate his Cy Young season. He is back to giving up too many hits as has been the case much of his career. It's not always fatal if you can scatter the hits and not give up too many long balls, but even his HR rate is kind of high for him so far. He is looking more like the 2015 version than 2016 one.
  22. You are projecting your feelings toward Farrell on the players. You really have no idea what they think of him. Who cares what words he chooses? Criticizing Farrell based on his style doesn't mean much.
  23. Beni's bat all but disappeared in May. Farrell is still confident in him. It seems the league has adjusted its pitching approach to him so now he will need to make adjustments of his own. Good thing JBJ seems to be heating up. Let's hope Beni gets his bat back on track soon. struggling_andrew_benintendi_back_on_bench
  24. That is the genius of Terry Francona.
