  1. True, but Castillo seems to be so deep in the dog house that I think he'd really have to set the world on fire in Triple-A to get another shot at this point (short of every other outfielder on the depth chart getting hurt). It's amazing how they seem to have completely lost interest in him since March. I agree that there very well may be something deeper going on here.
  2. I tend to agree, as you know... at least that he didn't get much of a chance in the major leagues. He basically had two solid months of playing time in Boston -- August 2015, which was very good, and September 2015, which was very poor -- plus a few games in Sept. 2014 and a few other random call-ups where he mostly rode the bench. He was slated to be the starting LF until he lost the job based on spring training results, which I never put much stock in. It almost makes one wonder if there is more to the story here. His Triple-A results really haven't helped his cause, though, and for me are more alarming than anything he's done or hasn't done in the majors. When JBJ lost his job and was demoted to Pawtucket, he raked all season long and basically forced them to give him another shot (and thank the gods he did); unless Rusney can find a way to do the same, I feel like his Red Sox career may be over.
  3. Un f***ing believable.
  4. Porcello entered the game with a 3.81 ERA.
  5. Let's give this Sampson kid a rude welcome to MLB.
  6. To me, saying a guy is "on pace to do X" is more a way of conceptualizing how good he's been so far and how good he could be if he keeps it up; what it obviously is not is some kind of guarantee that the player will continue on that pace. We have several guys on the offensive side who are off to unreal starts and are candidates for serious regression in the second half (though I hope not). In Xander's case: forget Nomar, if he ends up with 10+ WAR he'll be pretty close to Mike Trout's best season. Hard to imagine him continuing at the blistering pace he's been on lately, but hey....why not?
  7. Good night for an epic comeback.
  8. ...time to give Aaron Wilkerson a try?
  9. Attaboy, Mookie... looks like we might need the offense tonight.
  10. Those are really piling up, aren't they?
  11. I think I'd rather give up Swihart than Beni as well, but I have no idea where his value stands right now. It sounds like he may not be back before the trade deadline, and it'd be tough to make him a major piece in a trade when he's hurt.
  12. Agree...this smells like posturing/damage control by the agent. As noted, the video and the kid's own statements depict someone who was the furthest thing from being "upset" at being drafted by Boston. I'm not used to there being this much drama and intrigue surrounding one of our picks, and I'm just going to have to try to tune out all the rumors and innuendo over the next few weeks. Just get the deal done, and I'm happy.
  13. I reserve any judgments about trading/not trading prospects until I see the trade in question. Anyone should be available in the right deal, but to move any of the top four, the return would have to be great; to move Moncada or Espinoza in particular, IMO, the return would have to be pretty spectacular. Might Benintendi plus a couple of lesser pieces (someone like Owens, Dubon, etc.) be enough for Teheran?
  14. Short of someone like Jose Fernandez or Chris Sale unexpectedly becoming available, I don't know who's going to be on the market this summer that would be worth giving up Moncada for. Very few teams are close to selling mode at this point, and the ones that are don't exactly seem flush with the kind of controllable TOTR pitching we'd want.
  15. 2.00 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 5.00 K/BB over his last 5 starts, though. Hopefully he can carry that success over to the major leagues. He has a decent track record of being a close to league average SP, which isn't exciting but would be a big improvement over the garbage results we've gotten from the Buch/Kelly/Owens/O'Sullivan group so far.
  16. Alex Speier ‏@alexspeier 2h2 hours ago Yoan Moncada has been out of Salem lineup past two days while a bit banged up. Won't play in High A Cal-Carolina Lg All-Star Game on Tuesday Alex Speier ‏@alexspeier 2h2 hours ago Moncada should be playing again soon, and a promotion to Double A Portland should come within days.
  17. I think this goes without saying.
  18. Let me echo what Kimmi and cp said: these are some amazing memories, mal. Thanks for sharing with us.
  19. Nomar's best OPS+: 153, 156 (1999-2000) [age 25-26 seasons] Xander's 2016 OPS+ to date: 143 [age 23 season] So even accounting for the difference in offensive environment, Bogaerts has clearly not 'eclipsed' peak Nomar at this point (that's an exceedingly high bar to meet)...though it's also worth noting that Nomar never had an OPS+ higher than 140 in any of his other seasons. Agree, though he's on pace for around 20 homers this year and I still don't think we've seen his maximum power output yet. I wouldn't be shocked to see some 25-30 HR seasons from him down the road.
  20. We're not playing the Oreos?
  21. True, but we also need a left fielder in the pretty near future. The pitching market this summer is looking pretty barren...not many names out there I'd want to give up Benintendi or anyone else from our top 4 for, and yet the pressure will be there for the team to make a big move. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
  22. I doubt very many teams have two young catchers better than Vazquez and Swihart in their system, recent struggles and injury aside.
  23. Elias to start Friday: http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2016/06/14/roenis-elias-to-start-friday-vs-mariners-as-red-sox-need-5th-starter/
  24. It's a shame his really strong outing yesterday ended up being overshadowed by the errors and other gaffes.
