  1. Yeah, based on the "eye test" I'm not too shocked the metrics don't love him so far, but I don't expect that to continue. If his defense can normalize around its usual levels, and he continues hitting anywhere close to the way he has, he may cement himself as the best non-Trout CF in the AL this year.
  2. Oh, the Henry Owens experience... 7 shutout innings, 4 hits (), 5 BB (), 5 K
  3. Fair enough, Bell & Spud. I'm not hating on Holt by any means, just not quite sold that he's someone you want starting all year long at a position where, ideally, you'd like a big bopper...but he's the best option at the moment and I'm happy to ride his bat as far as it will take us.
  4. Agree. I don't expect a whole lot from O'Sullivan (hopefully he can keep us in the game), but having someone on the staff who can see something more in journeyman types like this, and once in a while pick out a diamond in the rough (eg, Hill), could prove invaluable over time.
  5. Holt has done fine, but I still like him better in the utility role, and he has a history of falling off drastically in the second half...there's no urgency to make a move by any means, but if there's a position we wanted to try to upgrade this summer (other than the rotation), LF would seem to be it.
  6. I like the way you think.
  7. Yeah, we may be in the minority, but I like the deal for Washington as well. $25 million per year is not just standard for a top-flight SP nowadays, it's a bit of a discount when you look at what older guys like Lester, Price, and Greinke have been getting.
  8. Still too early to read too much into the overall line, I think... as it is, he's on a 20 HR/35 SB pace, and the BA and OBP will end up looking strong by year's end. Not worried a bit.
  9. RSDD is a maniac! Heh.. apparently I've just made it to AA - where posters are truly tested.
  10. In the past, Big Papi has been accused of acting like he is "bigger than the game." It might be heretical, but...maybe he is.
  11. I admit that my knowledge of sabermetrics is pretty rudimentary, but there are stats like wOBA and wRC+ that attempt to measure a player's overall offensive production more precisely. I end up using OPS a lot because it's easy to find and calculate and, these days, more widely understood.
  12. This might have been posted somewhere already, but the RS apparently hope O'Sullivan's work with Brian Bannister can affect a Rich Hill-like epiphany.. http://www.providencejournal.com/sports/20160506/what-do-red-sox-see-in-sean-osullivan The early results in Pawtucket (5 starts) have been good. Will be interested to watch him tonight...I know this is likely only a spot start unless something else goes drastically wrong, but if there's any chance he's anything more than generic AAAA emergency depth, then that's a big plus.
  13. I'm not saying Trout isn't better than what we have right now...I'm saying if you're going to give up a bunch of your most valuable chips in one deal, it should be to address an area of need (preferably a #1b/2 type starter), not an area of strength.
  14. Agree. It's easy to see the price for Trout being franchise-crippling -- a pillaging of our burgeoning young core -- and if I was an Angels fan I wouldn't want to settle for anything less than that. In the long term, our outfield is the least of our concerns with Mookie, JBJ, and soon Benintendi and possibly Moncada in the fold. No need to expend precious resources trying to fill holes we don't have, at the expense of other needs...I am content to admire Trout and his feats from afar.
  15. Since we've been asked to leave BDC drama out of here, I'll just say that I don't think anyone really thought Southpaw or the other guy (Bosox Joe?) were the source of the problems with the moderation over there, and leave it at that. Southpaw, good to see you made it over here.
  16. I'm really thirsting for a pound-them-into-the-ground, 15-2 type of game after last night.
  17. That's pretty awesome. You picked a great time to get into baseball/the Red Sox, that's all I can say.
  18. Not if Dustin Ackley has anything to say about it.
  19. The proliferation of unnecessary/repetitive threads always kind of bugged me at BDC, so honestly this is a welcome change. I guarantee people will adjust to the different standards and expectations, and your patience is certainly appreciated in the meantime.
  20. As am I...just trying to imagine what some team would have to give up to make it worth their while is pretty mind-boggling (but a fun exercise nonetheless).
  21. It's the mistake we made before 2011, really: chasing after new, shiny toys at the expense of the future and regardless of whether we really needed them. Totally agree with your post and Max's above. On that note...anyone tempted? http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/70439/think-the-unthinkable-angels-will-have-to-think-about-trading-mike-trout
  22. Boston Red Sox ‏@RedSox 13m13 minutes ago Today the #RedSox selected RHP Sean O’Sullivan to the active roster and optioned LHP Henry Owens to Triple-A Pawtucket. Pablo to the 60-day DL to make room.
  23. False, they are either loser scumbags or (if winning) cheating scumbags...but always scumbags.
