The Sox have lost only one series out of the last 12 (SDP 2-1.)
We’ve tied a few, but just one lost series dating back to the end of May is pretty damn good.
I doubt we do anything major with everyday players, unless we lose faith in a Casas or Grissom return.
I do think we may do a mid level deal for a RHd 2Bman, SS or 1Bman.
Any major or near major deal should be for a SPer.
While the D at 2B/SS has been and still is bad, our O has been decent since about June1st for Raphael’s, Romy. Valdez and DHam.
I think a Rez rolls the current dice at 2B.
Maybe he trades a LHd OFer for a RHd OF or middle IFer.
We need pitching first.
The injury bug has really hit the Sox, this year.
Lots of short term injuries, but also…
Story
Giolito
Whitlock
Casas
Hendriks (known injury when signed)
Murphy & Walter
Martin & Mata
Grissom
That was the question I was asking you, earlier. Moving Rafaela to FT CF means benching a damn good hitter.
Ideally, we get a solid SP and a RHd 2Bman who can hit and play D.
The problem is, I have yet to hear a name that grabs my attention and is available.
Not sure who might be trades, but these are the highest fWAR 2Bmen on possible non contenders:
India
Semien
Hoerner
L Garcia
We have 11 batters over .700 since June 1st:
1.003 Devers
.973 Valdez (recently demoted)
.923?Duran
.881 O’Neill
.801 Rafaela
.799 Romy
.797 Wong
.790 Refsnyder
.758 Abreu
.738 Smith
.703 DHam
.693 Yoshida
Sox are ….
3.5 behind the Yanks (2 loss column)
5.5 from the Os (5 losses)
1.5 behind MN for the #2 WC slot
+1.0 on KCR (2 in loss column)
+2.5 on the streaking Astros (3 losses)
Nice box score to wake up to.
Our 5,6, 7 hitters had 8 of our 10 hits.
Glad I was wrong about benching Yoshida.
DHam keeps plugging away, as his sample size nears the point where I’m starting to expect .735 offense.
Of course, the pitching was the highlight of the box score.
Agreed. They both have a better chance of doing something productive than what we’d get in return, even if we pay and save half their contract costs.
Plus, there is no guarantee JH spends the money saved.
