How about our best 2 of 3 pitchers? Gray & Suarez. Factoring in the idea that we lost our ace (Crochet,) our #3/4 (Houck- known) and #5/7 (Crawford) and #6/8 (Oviedo) and #7/9 Early. I think he did fine. Our staff looked way better on opening day than the one on the playoff 2025 team. Quality and quantity. To me, the improvement is clear. The injuries hurt, but he planned on enough to keep us in it, despite losing 5-6 of our top 9-11 pitchers. The top 3 plan was way better (playoffs) Crochet got hurt, The 4-6 were way better, but too bad we needed to go to Tolle, Early & Bennett earlier than we hoped. The 7-10 were way better, and we needed them all, since 3 (Houck, Crawford & Oviedo) have yet to start a game, and Crochet has missed most of the year. Bello developed the yips, but I can't see blaming Brez for that. Our starter depth is why we are still in the race. Tolle, Bennett, Sandoval and Early were depth. -

We traded Early while he was on the IL and he has not come back, so we did not trade away pitching depth on that trade.. While Brez did trades away many pitchers, he added many, too. We heard about priester, last summer, but he's not pitching now. Do you wish we had not traded him? Harrison and Drohan are doing well, but Brez added Gray, Suarez & Bennett. Oviedo was added too but has been hurt. He also added Sandoval, last year, and he's been good in 5 of 7 starts this year. Add all the pitchers he traded away and compare to those he added, and tell me which way the balance has swung. Earlier, this season, most of the criticism was that Brez put too many eggs in the pitching basket and neglected the bat basket. Fred & others ae still claiming that. -

Yoshida went to the IL, so we may not see what happens to him. Fred will love these Rafaela numbers. Are these high BAbip numbers lucky or a result of high LD% and Hard Hit%? -
Is 3 a rarity or more like the norm. I'm not doubting your point. You know more than I do about this stuff.

He spent to his limit, saved on FA costs by paying just $40M for Gray & Contreras combined. Suarez looks like a good contract, especially when you couple it with the Durbin, Monasterio & Seigler deal, as Bregman and Harrison costs more than Suarez, Durbin & Co. He spent $6M on IKF and traded some scraps for Oviedo, but expecting him to add Alonso or Cease for IKF's money, or someone else via trade is rather picky and extreme. Yes, some holes were left, but Brez filled 3 major holes very well and 3-4 moderate ones pretty well, and considering what budget and trade assets he had, he seemingly used them very well. Did you want him to trade Tolle or Arias? Spend more than he could? Without using hindsight only reasoning, explain how he gets Schwarber or Alonso with the same budget. Who do we not add instead, and wouldn't that be a new hole created?

I've often told myself to never grow up, but I've never been accused of having Peter Pan Syndrome. I did hurt my knee once, like a few Sox players. (Keeping on topic here.)

I understand how whiff rates matter more for prospects than I usually care about. MLB has a ton of high K guys, now, so maybe he can not get worse as he is promoted, but yes, it's a concern. (101Ks in 286 ABs is frightening. The 19 HRs and 45 HBH/286 might not carry him. What's the concern on Delzine? Being too raw?

Not many pitchers make and succeed in the bigs with an 88 mph fastball, but the ones who do/did were told the same thing. Some small sample sizes, but here are his numbers: 2.37 SAL '25 ,642 OPSA 1.09 GRE '25 .487 0.00 SAL '26 .171 (9IP) 4.22 GRE '26 .757 (not horrible) 5.40 POR '26 ,810 (Bad, but he did well his last game.) He's certainly a longshot.

He's done fine in 5 of 7 starts. That's not bad for our 8th starter, not counting Houck, Crawford and Oviedo.

I'm not so sure. It is rather telling that we couldn't move him at the deadline, when teams are desperate and willing to overpay for anything better than what they have. What will he get in an arb? (I'd rather nontender than offer him $7-9M in arb.) Trade him for a single A wannabee.

Yes, Bello is often going as many innings as SP'ers, so it's like another starter. -
Every GM with a limited budget leaves something undone or at a point they wish was stronger. I do agree we left a couple holes, but to me, that's on JH and the budget. Brez was nearly perfect on almost every significant decision and a few lesser ones, too. He's made mistakes, but the balance between good moves and bad moves is very wide, IMO. Had he been handed a budget of $20-30M more....

So, BresLOW the "idiot" traded scarps for a #3SP'er who is pitching like a 1-2. He signed Suarez and traded for Durbin, instead of signing Bregman. He traded scraps for Contreras who many felt was not a big bat, but he turned out to be one. He signed guys like T Guerrero and got Monasterio and Seigler as throw-in. With idiots like him, who needs morons?
