    Neither Thompson nor Anthony are on or need to be on the 40 to stay in the Sox system, but one might be added for opening day, We can place Murphy or Perales on the 60 Day IL to make room for one. I'm pretty certain both will not be added.

    That hasn't mattered in a long time. Maybe that changes, this fall.

    The team that no longer has Soto, Torres, Cortes, and Holmes.... No Cole. Stanton has both elbows bothering him. Gil out with lat strain. LeMahieu out for a long time. The Sox are not the only team with injury issues.

    The Yanks were an aging team with almost as much injury history as the Sox team. The writing has been on the wall for years.

    Don't count on it. Ref has been a top 15 batter vs LHPs over the last 3 years- a much larger sample size and vs actual ML pitchers in actual ML games.

    While 1050 PAs might seem like a large enough sample size, Thompson's are spread out over 7 seasons. He did have a 290 PA stretch from 2021 to 2022, where he hit .889 (145 OPS+) with 17 HRs. It makes you wonder just how bad he had to be the other 760 PAs to end up with a .711 career OPS. He's about to turn 31. It is very rare for someone to have a great career at 31, when they basically sucked, beforehand, but he could be one of the few. I'm not advocating he make the 26, but if Anthony and Abreu are not ready, opening day, AND he keeps raking, like this, I would not be surprised if he gest the call over KC. (Perhaps both make the 26.)

    Yup. If money was limitless, okay, but getting Vladdy would mean bye-bye to these three, as soon as they lost their control years, plus others, maybe.

    I think the uptick is a result of pitchers being instructed to throw with more and more spin and or velocity. The increased torque put on these guys arms is leading to the increase in injuries, IMO. This may not be rocket science.

    I just don't see the need for another DH/1B type player, let alone ta anywhere near this cost. Casas isn't as good, but he's way cheaper and not a bad hitter. Devers looks like a DH only type- maybe 1B, if he's interested. I guess we could trade one.

    I'm fine with whoever they think is the best, but I also think whatever gives them the most options to keep in the system, weather on the 40 or not will be a top priority.

    I was thinking more about Ottavino vs Wink, but wink has options, so keeping Ottavino as "an option" might be worthwile.

    We'd be hearing the 2024 O'Neill talk, all year long. Even just 110 might be talked about.

    I don't disagree, but no player ever repeats his career OPS, exactly the same going forward. Players make adjustments and can and have gotten better. My reasoning is more about wanting the kids to get an added year or control and to give the team as many viable options in their system as possible, early in the season. Keeping the kids off the 40 adds options, even if borderline viable.

    Yes, both would mean someone gets injured. Romy is a RHB. Why boot him from the 26? Are these guys under any control by the Soxc, or can they become FAs, if they dont make the 40 after spring.

    Guys like them are added all the time. We could have 2-3 slots without any major losses. If we choose one prospect- maybe Anthony to start for Abreu, we could have 1-2 slots for guys like them. I still think adding a year of control for the top 3 is a priority that make tip the balance on adding a journeyman type like Thompson or Eaton- assuming they keep raking all spring long.

    I agree, with an emphasis on "right now." There is plenty of time for things to change. We may end up needing both.

    With all the talk of how many, if any, of the big three prospects break camp with the big club (added to the 40 and 26,) it's interesting to see discussion about Thompson and or Eaton being added, instead or maybe with 1 or two. I see two openings by way of adding Murphy and Perales to the 60 Day IL. I doubt Crawford or Bello will need 60 days, now will Yoshida and Abreu. Other DFA candidates might be Sogard. We could DFA Sabol, but would have to have a plan to DFA someone else, if we ever needed to add a catcher, quickly due to an injury to Wong or Narvaez.

    We have two easy 60 Day IL guys, too- Murphy & Perales. No need for DFA's just yet.
