  1. 111 pitches. I'd not have even started him tonight. We better rest him plenty from now until game 1.
  2. Maybe we should pitch Sale for 3 complete games- 140 pitches each- just to avoid a tiny chance of having to play in a play-in game. NOT!
  3. We win the division by 4 games.
  4. It's pretty simple to understand. No need for vulgar insults. We don't win jack without Sale being 100% strong. He's started to look shaky and has a history of dropping off late in the season. We can't afford him to not be "the man". Yeah, I get the argument that we have to clinch, but look at the schedule, he's scheduled to pitch the last game of the season-- no way we do that, so he ends up getting 9 days of rest once- right before his first playoff game. I could easily ask "are you EF'in nuts? We not rest him 2 extra days now, 1 extra days before his next start and then 1 extra day before his first playoff game? If we gag this season, it won't be because Sale was pushed back 1 game twice. Besides, we're not going to lose our lead. I'll just say this: without a strong Sale, we have no chance.
  5. Moreland. No, seriously, anybody but Sale. Maybe give Price 2 innings, Workman 2, Velazquez 2-3...
  6. Why can't we ever get guys like this Pablo character?????
  7. They will. Book it.
  8. I wouldn't have pitched him tonight. I'd have given him 2 extra days rest, and then 1 or 2 extra here on out. We need him to be rested and strong for game 1.
  9. We don't know if he was overhyped. Plus, the Sox don't do the national rankings. He was highly thought of, before we even signed him.
  10. Logan Morrison just turned 30. TB has a way of finding player that have a career year there, then move on and suck again. Morrison did well his first 1.5 seasons way back in '11-'12. (He was over .800 his first 800 PAs.) From 2012 to 2016, he never got above .735 and was below .710 in 3 of the 5 seasons. Not someone I'd gamble on, but he might be a better choice than Moreland.
  11. This year only? Margot couldn't have done better than Young? Probably much better. If we are judging Guerra and others in hindsight, then don't we have to wait to judge this trade and Espi one, too? I think Logan Allen might be the sleeper in this deal.
  12. I think we can remain highly competitive without trading away anymore top young players/prospects. We should be able to spend more now that the tax is reset.
  13. The hesitation before throwing drives me nuts. I remember Luis Aparicio used to look at the ball in his hand when he had the runner out by 15 feet, but he was a truly great defender. The 3 finger things sounds wacko to me. My guess is, that will have to be changed (as with the hez crap).
  14. But, how many times have the Sox had an 18 year old pitcher ranked in the top 20? I realize the Sox have not had much luck with pitchers in the system, and I understand that potential value is just that: potential. My issue was not so much about trading Espi, even though I'd have loved to have rolled the dice on him, but I thought we could have made a bigger package the winter before and got an ace or solid #2. I'm glad Pom has turned into a solid #2 this year. It was a little bumpy last year. I've never had anything against Pom. I thought he was a decent #3 or 4. So far, the deal looks great.
  15. Exactly. That's why there are no clutch hitters or 100% consistent hitters. Good hitters, when given a large enough sample size, do well. Bad hitters will do poorly. A few will happen to be hot or cold during the sample size and may appear to be "clutch" or "chokes" just like any cherry-picked sample size would show a statistical variance within the mathematical projection.
  16. Morison has had a very uneventful career, until suddenly busting out with the Rays this year. He's no sure bet to repeat, and although nobody really is a sure bet, some are more sure than others. I want a more "sure" bet.
  17. Clutch exists. Consistently clutch hitters do not.
  18. Agreed. We all know our biggest need is a clean-up hitter. Even that might not be enough. I'd prefer signing someone over opening more holes through a trade. (Plus, it's not my money!) I'm not for rolling the dice at this point. We've already mortgaged too much of our extended future for this 3-4 year window. Why stop now?
  19. I'm not for signing Hosmer. I'd prefer Martinez or Moustakas. If they are way too costly, I might try to sign Duda to a one year deal with significantly bigger money than others are offering (per year) for 2+ years.
  20. Here's a list of possible trade or FA targets for this winter listed by 2017 WAR: 6.4 Votto 6.1 Stanton 4.9 Cozart 4.8 Upton 4.4 Donaldson 4.0 Hosmer 3.7 Dozier 3.4 JD Martinez 3.4 Santana 3.2 Lowrie 3.2 Machado 3.0 Morrison 3.0 Beltre Looking at just offense and filling the clean-up slot? OPS 1.052 JD Martinez 1.035 Votto 1.006 Stanton .949 Cozart .949 Donaldson .922 Beltre .913 Upton .910 Jose Abreu .897 Hosmer .865 Morrison .854 Alonso .849 Santana .843 Duda .838 Reynolds .835 Moustakas .832 Bruce
  21. I'm not so sure. Certainly several had him in the top 2 to 4.
  22. Clearly Sale, Pomeranz and Porcello will be our 3 and as it looks now E-Rod is a more reliable 4th. Funny how just 2 starts ago, people were saying Fister should start the first game of the playoffs. Now, he doesn't even make your top 4.
  23. We could get lucky and get one of these (bridge) guys to bite on a one year deal and then have a career year like Morrison has just had: Duda Alonso Morrison (again) Santana
  24. Maybe we sign JD Martinez to DH... 1. Bogey SS 2. Betts RF 3. Beni LF 4. Martinez 1B/DH 5. Devers 3B (1B) 6. Pedey 2B 7. JBJ CF 8. HRam 1B/DH or Nunez 3B/DH 9. Vaz C Bench: Nunez, Leon, and two from Travis, Hernandez, Lin, Holt (?) and Marrero
  25. I'd still rather have Moose than Hosmer, assuming cost is not an issue, but I doubt that happens. The best idea is probably to try for a 1 year fix at 3B then go hard at Machado next winter. That gives Devers another year to show growth on defense at 3B. I'm not sure if signing a "bridge" is a great idea when the "window" is only open for a finite time.
