Yes, it is more likely we get a 1Bman than a 3Bman or DH-only type. (I went back and corrected it.)
I'd have Nunez play more than HRam, but HRam would get more PAs at DH.
Without a doubt.
Lin's a better fielder, but is far away with the bat.
A while ago, I suggested the idea of maybe finding a big bat clean up hitting 3Bman and moving Devers to 1B over the winter. I was kind of surprised how many poster did not even want to consider the idea.
(Note: I'm not saying I want to move a 20 year old player off position based on tiny sample sizes, but if we can get a better bat at 3B than 1st, I'm considering it.
I think we can see why Sox management had a big concern about the defensive readiness of Devers.
Of course, even as bad has he has looked, especially at key moments in games, Pablo was even worse.
If we sign a FA 1Bman and Nunez our 13 position players should be:
1. Bogey SS
2. Betts RF
3. Beni LF
4. ____ 1B
5. Devers 3B
6. Pedey 2B
7. JBJ CF
8. HRam DH
9. Vaz C
Bench: Nunez, Leon, and two from Travis, Hernandez, Lin, Holt (?) and Marrero
They are very good, but not like the Guardians.
They don't have much experience.
Bring 'em on.
Let's not pussyfoot around. I want to face the Yanks. I'm more certain of beating them than CLE. Saying that is not a slight.
Houston vs NYY? Pretty close on who I'd like to face more. I'd probably rather play the Yanks, but it's close.
I think we can pay all the arbs and option raises, sign a big bat for clean up and Nunez and still be under the second penalty tier of the luxury tax.
I'm not saying we will or should do so, but I think it can be done.
I wish Nunez was a better fielder, but with a team seeming lacking in offense going into 2018, having a super sub who could possibly hit over .800 is something that could put us over the top.
Yes, of course, but people said that about every great player in history before they became great.
He could be a dud. He could be super great. He might be somewhere in between.
We won't know for a long time, but if he does turn out to be good, there will be several years of team control more than Pom.
I like Pom. I hope he could go deeper in games, but I'm thrilled with what he has given us this year.
I was dead against the trade, but not because I thought Pom sucked. I was super high on Espi's massive upside potential.
The trade has looked great this year- not so great last year. We still have one more year of Pom.
I'm glad we have Pom, but I still think Espi might make us wonder.
He's defending at a 40+ error per 1400 innings pace.
He seems athletic. I think he can work out the hesitation before throwing while improving his arm accuracy, but I'm still thinking we should at least consider moving him to 1B, if we can get a good 3Bman who can bat clean-up.
I was talking about XB.
I do think Devers has a ways to go to get plus on 3B defense. I also do not like the little hesitation he makes before throwing. I think it cost us that play vs the Yanks where the review showed the guy safe by an eyelash. That wasn't even called an error.
Our left side infield is not pretty on D.
Devers -9.8 UZR/150 and -4 DRS (on pace for -12 in 1200 innings.)
Bogey -1.3 UZR/150 and -11 DRS in just over 1200 innings.
Okay, but you were responding to my point about errors by Devers almsot having a direct impact of 2 losses in a row.... not which errors were better worse looking.
We won't lose.
You should think of it this way:
1) If we beat the Yanks, you'll feel much better than if we beat the Guardians.
2) We have a better chance against the Yanks, because the Guardians are a better team (and more experienced).
3) We won't lose to the Yanks. The Guardians are maybe another story.
True. Very true.
What I really liked about Q was that he has 3 more years of team control after 2017 (one more than Sale).
His luxury tax cost would only have been $4.2M until his 2019 (also pro-rated in 2017) and 2020 option years of $10.5M each.
