  1. On infield defense anyways.
  2. As much as we think of Cameron as a mostly defensive player- like JBJ- the numbers show otherwise: JBJ: 9.9 WAR (-3.9 OFF and 34.5 DEF) MC: 50.7 WAR (120.2 OFF and 130.4 DEF) Note: most of Mike's offensive numbers cam from his years at ages 28 to 36. Maybe we'll see the same from JBJ.
  3. I'm not for replacing Devers with Moustakas. I'm for replacing Moreland with Moustakas and improving our 3B defense along the way. It's turning 3B into a Gold Glove position, but it might be turning something close to the worst 3B defense into something close to average along the way.
  4. Negative defensive WAR is nonsense.
  5. The comp is Mostakas vs Hosmer, Morrison or Alonso- not between Devers and Moose. We are not benching Devers by signing Moose. Moose over Hosmer in my eyes. Better IF D all around and more power. Plus, why roast Moose for his first 2-3 years in the bigs?
  6. I don't think we do either, but personally, I like Mosse at 3B and Devers at 1B/DH more than Devers at 3B and Hosmer at 1B, which I think will happen. I'd rather have Santana than Hosmer, as both are QO's. JD Martinez is not a QO. He's my first choice, assuming we only get one major signing.
  7. The main problem is that the new rules state that if RC is added to the 40 man, he will count against the luxury tax budget for the remainder of his contract. If we stay over the luxury limit for the next 3 years, the cost might get to high. One year is probably okay, but we can't "do over", if he fails.
  8. I'm afraid it looks that way. I'm still holding out hope he puts together multiple hot streaks within one season...2018?
  9. To me, the best "deals" as projected by MLBTR would be Moustakas, Santana, Bryan Shaw and/or Duda. If we want to squeeze out HRam we could sign 2 of Moose, Santana or Duda + Shaw.
  10. I can't find where to enter the contest. Do you have a link?
  11. 33rd out of 33 in DRS since 2016!
  12. It's slightly below average, and DRS numbers make it certainly below average. He isn't getting any better, which is what bothers me most: 19th out of 33 in UZR/150 from 2016-2017 and 33rd out of 33 in DRS at -21! One shows slightly below average. One shows the worst of all. I wouldn't call that average. [2017 alone shows17 out of 30 in UZR/150 and 29 out of 30 in DRS at -15.]
  13. Duda is being projected to get $6M/1.
  14. I think the only years I really have a bone to pick with were 2005, 2012 and 2014. It makes sense that there would be a let down no matter what in 2005, but that rotation was really bad. They should have made more of an effort in 2012 to remove some of the clubhouse stink and BV shouldn't have been allowed through the door. 2012 was hard to figure out. We had the rotation Ben was bashed for trading away. All had bad years at the same time, and everyday players were hurt and under performing as well. 5.91 SP'er ERA 4.82 Lester 4.56 Buch 4.86 Doubront 5.23 Beckett 8.28 Dice-K/6.22 Bard/5.65 A Cook .682 OPS by Ellsbury in just 74 games. Cody Ross was great signing, but he wasn't enough. 2014 saw severe growing pains from ... JBJ .531 Bogey .660 and vets dropping... .712 Pedey .873 Papi and Middy (.522), Gomes (.683), Nava (.706) and AJP (.633) pretty much stinking up the place. Even the rotation had issues, especially when compared to 2013... 4.72 Peavy 5.34 Buch 6.07 Doubront It's easy to look for "ifs", but if HRam and Porcello had their 2016 seasons in 2015, maybe things would have turned out much differently. The rotation is often criticized, but their numbers looked better than the great rotation on paper in 2012, yet the 2012 numbers were 80 point higher in ERA over 2015. 4.46 Miley 4.92 Porcello 4.82 Kelly 3.85 ERod 3.26 Buch 3.96 Wright 4.57 Owens
  15. He's 28th out of 31 in DRS since 2015. He's 17th out of 31 in UZR/150. He's not average.
  16. I don't think we can afford to try and get a significant player at 2B or SP'er. My guess is, we give Hernandez/Holt/Lin/Marrero a shot at 2B, and if it doesn't work out, and Pedey's recovery time is extended, we'll look for the next Nunez type. We'll also let Wright, Velazquez, Johnson, Haley, Elias and Beeks compete for the 5 slot while ERod recovers. We might sign someone like we did with Fister this srping. The focus will most likely be on a clean-up hitter (1B or DH-4th OF'er type) and a 1B or 4th OF'er that is not the clean-up guy. (If we think HRam can play 1B, we may look at DH types like Duda.) I think the 3rd priority will be to sign a guy like Bryan Shaw. We may then be able to trade from our pen depth- something like Hembree, Taylor and Swihart for a better RP'er than Hembree. Or, we could throw in Johnson and trade for a better 6th starter type.
  17. Travis & Marrero were 'called home" due to injuries that do not seem severe. More from the fall league... http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/11/fallwinter-roundup-travis-marrero.html
  18. I'm not one of "the some" I mentioned, but I can see how "some" might view his as "desperate" for trading away so many top prospects in such a short period. Keeping prospects conveys a sense of patience. One antonym of patience is "desperate". Again, I don't view DD as desperate, but I do see him as bold and daring with a streak of a gambler in him.
  19. I'm thinking it was a big issue. He started the year off very well. I'm also thinking Mookie's decline was probably related to an injury. We had a lot of people playing hurt last year plus many more missing time, and we still won the division. A little more luck and maybe we can all gel at the same time- like 2013.
  20. I understand your position. I hate finishing last or being out of playoff contention in early August. However, the experience of winning a championship is so overwhelming, I have to say, I' rather have the 2012-2015 four year period than the 2008-2011 four year period. Plus, while I feel bad during the season, the off-seasons are worse when hope is low about next year's chances. I'll admit, I was not super high going into 2013, but every one of those four years showed promise before the year started but also a sense that the extended future was getting much brighter. The last few years of Theo's regime, I did not have that sense of long term promise, other than knowing we'd stay somewhat competitive due to alwayd being a top 5 spender. That's not quite as enjoyable as watching homegrown kids like Betts, Bogey, JBJ and others rise- some through periods of intense struggling. I feel really good this winter. I'm not a DD basher. I'd have done a few thing differently, but I know I'm not an expert. I'd have done a few things differently with Ben and Theo, too. I'm fine with sacrificing some of the future for a window as wide as 3-4 years. I hate trading top talent for 2 month rentals. DD has avoided that, thankfully. I'm hoping we win a ring in the next 2-3 years, but I realize we may pay for that a little bit by not being very competitive for a year or two afterwards. I lived the "come so close" era in Sox history that lasted decades. I suffered through over 3 decades of coming close. To me, it was not even close to being as good as the 4 year period under Ben- 3 last places and 1 ring. Those three last place finishes were frustrating, because we didn't seem to have a last place roster. We didn't have a championship roster either, but a lot of players under performed.
  21. Big savings for us! (LOL)
  22. I guess some feel his moves have been of the desperate variety. I'd maybe call him daring Dave.
  23. Top SS WAR since 2015 16.5 Lindor 14.6 Seager 13.7 Correa 12.4 Bogaerts 12.1 Crawford 11.1 Simmons 9.7 Gregorius 8.9 Cozart Bogey placed 6th in wRC+ at 107 3rd OBP .352 7th OPS .776 17th UZR/150 at -1.2 28th DRS at -22
  24. I agree. The luxury tax number really looks okay for teams straddling the line from year to year- not so good for others looking at $29.5M for forever. I say go for it!
