At times, teams do not put in a claim, because they are not interested in trading players for the guy at that time, and they know the team will be asking for players or asking for too much.
I am as close to certain as possible that when Stanton is traded, the Marlins will get good players/prospects in return. They probably will pay a small part of his contract but not a lot.
Maybe, this winter, the Marlins might take HRam (as a salary offset for the first 1-2 years of Stanton's contract) or Castillo (as a more spread out salary relief), Chavis and Beeks or Shawaryn.
If they took HRAm, our luxury tax budget would barely go up for 1-2 years. We could also add a key FA or two to fill other needs, such as signing Nunez and a 1Bman like Duda, Morrison or Alonso.
