  1. They said it wasn't a top priority, but I think it was an important one. I'm thinking DD might have been told he had to reset the tax this year or next year, and he thought it best to do it this year.
  2. I think he'll enjoy winning a ring or two with the Sox.
  3. I think it was pretty obvious a high priority was given to reset the tax. It wasn't 100% that they had to do it, so I agree with your point. My point was that we could have signed EE and reset the tax, if DD got creative and wanted to do both.
  4. Raja Davis certainly did not help as much as anyone wished he would. Young never came around. I doubt not calling up Brentz made much of a difference. I'm okay with giving him a look this spring, and I'm not worried, if he fails. We'll still have Swihart, Holt and Lin who can hold down the fort until we acquire someone better.
  5. He really hasn't had any major injuries or any injury that seems chronic in nature. I believe his low games player per season was due to him not being a FT player until about 4 years ago. That being said, it is a legitimate concern that he has only over 520+ PAs once in a season. (He did have exactly 600 in the minors in 2010.)
  6. We could have scrimped and saved to sign EE for $20M a year AND still reset the tax. The question is did DD know EE could have been had for $20M when he signed Moreland. Personally, I think not, and that's why we signed Moreland. It's pure speculation on my part, but it seems like a lot of people were surprised at how little EE ended up making (including EE himself). Had we not signed Moreland , we'd have had $5.5M. We could have not signed Abad or Holt for another $4M. We could have not traded for Nunez, Reed or Davis and saved the rest, or we could have traded Young before the season and saved some or most of his $6.5M. My point is, if DD really wanted EE, he could have made it happen AND stayed below the luxury tax line, but it would have been a gamble on not needing any expensive mid season acquisitions.
  7. With all due respect, it was about 2 years ago, not three when DD took over.
  8. Granderson will likely be too expensive to be competition for the 4th OF slot. I think Swihart, Holt and Lin will be Brentz's only competition in the spring. The job is his to lose.
  9. I wonder if DD would have signed EE at $60M/3 had he known that was going to be the cost before he signed Moreland. Did he just misjudge the market cost for EE, or did he just not really want him all that much? Not sure we'll ever know.
  10. We don't have 40 maan roster issues- just 25 man roster issues with too many marginal (bubble) guys at zero options.
  11. I wouldn't minds seeing MLBTR's projections come true: JD Martinez Santana B Shaw 1. Betts RF 2. Beni LF 3. Santana 1B 4. Martinez DH 5. Devers 3B 6. Bogey SS 7. Pedey 2B 8. JBJ CF 9. Vaz C Bench: HRam, Leon, Brentz or Swihart, Hernandez// (DFA, phantom DL or trade Swihart or Brentz, Holt & Marrero) SP: Sale, Price, Pom, Porcello, (ERod) Wright RP: Kimbrel, Shaw, Kelly, Smith, Barnes, Scott, (Thorn burg) Maddox or Workman //(DFA, phanton DL or trade Hembree & Johnson)
  12. ...and all JD costs is money.
  13. If we don't win a ring this year, then QO benies at most.
  14. It's easy to find a 4th OF'er mid season, so I don't think this is some sort of major commitment.
  15. There is always room for Duda. As long as it's in another clubhouse. LOL. I Know he has issues, but his contract is projected to be pretty low and short. He's not the centerpiece to a winter of moves. I do like Santana as the better overall player than Martinez. But Martinez is the better fit for Fenway, possibly better than Stanton. The position thing is the biggest drawback... Pretty big drawback, but he does fill the clean-up hole a lot better than Santana.
  16. At least the 3 big guys he got through trades were 3 year "short term" players not one or two.
  17. I see it like this: if he was ML ready he'd have started in 2016. 1 year away would be 2017, 2 years is 2018. Mid year 2018=2.5, but I can see viewing it as 3 years away.
  18. Zero Options Wright Vazquez Hembree Swihart Ramirez Porcello Marrero Johnson Leon Pomeranz Brentz
  19. Maybe 2 to2.5. Maybe 3, but that doesn't mean he'd start for the Sox. The White Sox have more openings.
  20. So, your choice is Santana? If we sign JD without losing an OF'er, is there room for Duda?
  21. I thought Pom and Kimbrel would both be good, but I still felt we gave up too much. We traded for 3 playoff cycles of Pom. He didn't do much last year at the end of the year. He had a great season this year. He's got one year left. Kimbrel was not that great last year, but he was the best this year. He's got one year left. DD certainly looks good on these two trades, but if these two fall off next year, and we don't win a ring, I think the results of the players we traded away will be looked at much more closely going forward.
  22. Even budget hawks think DD can spend close to $40M (per year) this winter.
  23. Thanks. I was hoping for pitch counts, but SO 543 in 85 games (6.4 IP /game) DK 1424 in 209 games (6.8 IP/game)
  24. Yes, I expect he starts for the DWS this summer. Maybe 1.5 years.
  25. Kopech wasn't far from ML ready.
