  1. Agreed. I have never said he can not improve or eventually be a plus. I am concerned his learning curve may hurt our chances next year, but I'm fine with keeping him at 3B. My first choice is JD. We don't always get our first choices, even if we outbid everyone. My second choice is Moustakas. My third choice is a trade for Stanton, Donaldson or Beltre. I do not think Votto will come here.
  2. +101
  3. No, he doesn't NEED TO BE MOVED, but what if JD really wants to play elsewhere. All that is left in free agency, is Moustakas. My first choice is JD.
  4. Did you watch the games? Counting the playoffs, I think he was on pace for 45+ errors per 162 games. I'm fine with keeping him at 3B and letting him learn "on the job", but I think he'd be better at 1B than 3B.
  5. Word was the main reason the did not bring Devers up earlier was because of his defense.
  6. Every time I metion signing Mouse, I mention moving Devers to 1B, where he will likely end up eventually anyway.
  7. I read somewhere it was $207M. The real number is the secondary penalty phase level, which I think is $237M, but if it's $227M, then we are squeezed, unless we decide to drop our draft pick 10 slots and go for broke.
  8. ]'m honored by the comp. Thanks. We may disagree a lot, but I value your insights.
  9. Moreland had 22 home runs this year. The most in MLB at 1b this year was 39. I think you need to work on your math a little. I was talking team HRs, but Moreland still finished 26th in individual HRs by players who played some 1B last year. Individual HRs by players who played some 1B last year: ' http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=5,d
  10. I agree, we will get better, even with no additional improvements made. I can't see 7 of our 8 top returning 2016 positional players declining for 3 straight years. We will spend this winter, and it should not be for Moreland. We need a big power boost, and most likely from more than one position. Staying even at 1B makes it nearly impossible to gain enough elsewhere, without trading for Stanton- which would likely subtract from 2-3 other positions thereby lessening his positive impact with his power. To me, slightly improving power at 1B (HRam-Duda platoon) and DH with JD Martinez or a Mostakas- JD signing with Devers moved to 1B makes the most sense.
  11. JD, Duda (to platoon with HRam and squeeze his vesting option) and Nunez (for back-up to Pedey and everywhere else). I think we could do this and stay below the maximum penalty level on the luxury tax. Trading big players for a bigger player just opens new holes that will be too costly to fill. I'll listen to any trade suggestions. If Henry didn't mind opening his wallet bigtime, then sure, trade Bogey, Beni, Chavis and HRam for Stanton, sign JD, Nunez and Cozart and go into 2017 with this... 1. Pedey 2B-Nunez 2B/3B 2. Betts RF 3. Stanton LF 4. Martinez 1B/DH 5. Cozart SS 6. Devers 3B/1B 7. Nunez 3B/ Travis 1B 8. JBJ CF 9. Vaz C
  12. I hated the HRam signing from second one. I suggested we trade him after a big year in 2016. I have little confidence he can hit like 2016 or better again. Please stop confusing my position for letting HRam show what he has next spring with some sort of perverted "butt hurt" love for the guy. He's not Pablo, and just because bring Pablo back failed miserably, it doesn't mean HRam will, too. There's a significant chance HRam sucks next year, but there's also a significant chance he can hit over .825 or even .850.
  13. DFA'ing HRam before seeing if he's healthy next spring is absolutely unreasonable. Trading him and paying a significant portion of his contract has merit. (And, I'm no HRam fan.)
  14. It hurt more batting them 1 & 2 all series long.
  15. I'd give Bogey, Chavis, Beeks and Shawayn and not much more. (We could then sign Cozart.) Put Stanton at DH to save himself from injuries. Pray HRam can play 1B (maybe sign Duda to platoon at 1B). Get 15+ more HRs from the SS position.
  16. I thought we gave up too much for Kimbrel and Pom. I really liked both of those guys, but I did think we could have gotten more or given less for them.' That being said, there's no doubt the players DD has acquired via trade have done very very well, including Pom & Kimbrel. Only the Shaw trade looks bad right now. I'm not a big DD supporter, but to bash him over his trade results is silly. Now, in 3 years, maybe the bashing can be justified, or if you want to argue the extended future now, then yes, but DD's trades have immensely helped this team win the division 2 years in a row.
  17. 19 23 got 27 or more. Only 4 had less HRs than Boston's 25.
  18. Are you serious? 1) Who expects it? Me. And, you should, too. We finished last in HRs and have an opening at 1B; where else are we going to get a major increase in HRs other than 1B? (Yes, Stanton jumps to mind, but finding a power hitting 1Bman should be less costly- both in terms of money and players lost in trade. JD Martinez may get us 40.) 2) 12 teams had 35 or more HRs from the 1B position this year, and 19 had 30 or more. That's 2/3rds who not only expected it but got it. 3) Only 4 teams had less HRs than Boston's 1Bmen (25), and it blows my mind how many posters want Moreland back again. 4) Even adding 20 HRs at 1B will probably not be enough. Yes, adding 40 to LF alone would have moved us up from 27th in HRs to 16th this year, but we likely need to add 20-30+ HRs at 2 positions.
  19. No, by himself he is not. We can easily afford $25M, but if we trade Beni and Bogey, we'll need a SS and still a DH and/or 1Bman. I'm not sure we can afford Stanton's $25M plus what it will cost to fill the holes we have and the new holes created when trading for him. I'd love to find a way to get him without creating new problems elsewhere.
  20. Why not try to improve at 1B, a position where 30-40 Hrs are expected? Moreland did slightly better than expected this year, but let's not gush over a below average overall 1Bman.
  21. Stanton's luxury tax hit is only $25M a year for the remainder of his contract. It's not the money that prevents the deal, it's the money plus the holes we'd open up to get him. There may not be enough money to fill them to respectability. Beni should get better next year. trading him will not be easy to replace.
  22. I actually think the window might be 3 more years, but the next 2 are our best shots. We went for broke with all the prospect trades, so why stop now? Spend to $236M or even more. All we lose by going over $237 in 10 slots on our draft pick. My guess is, we can cut loose some smaller salaries like maybe Holt and maybe even Leon and Thornburg to get us able to spend close to $45-50M. It's Henry's money, and I won't blame him for not wanting to go over $237M, but I think he should and might spend close to that threshold.
  23. Can we let Moreland walk away into the sunset? Please! We need to add major power, and we only really have Moreland's slot opening up. Signing Moreland adds nothing to the 2018 team.
  24. Yes, it's like signing him all over again. If he's on, he's probably worth $40M.
  25. In fairness to DD, we could get a lot better next year, if just some of these simple things come true... Price stays healthy Porcello pitches right between 2016 and 2017 numbers. Smith and Thornburg are healthy and in prior form. Devers plays a full year in Boston- maybe at 1B. Pedey stays healthy...or healthier. Wright returns to first half 2016 form. Ross, perhaps our most consistent RP'er from 2014-2016 returns strong. Workman continue to grow stronger. The top 8 returning everyday players by PAs from 2016 stop the decline, and maybe even a few have career years as they come closer to prime. 2018: 1. Bogey SS 2. Betts RF 3. Beni LF 4. JD Martinez DH/OF 5. HRam 1B/DH 6. Devers 3B 7. Pedey-Nunez 2B 8. JBJ CF 9. Vaz C Bench: (Nunez), Leon, Hernandez, Travis-Lin-Marrero SP: Sale, Price, Pom, Porcello, ERod, (Wright) RP: Kimbrel, Smith, Kelly, Thornburg, Barnes, Ross, Workman-Maddox-Hembree-Scott--others We might need close to total health. Speaking of injuries, the Guardians have had a lot, too.
