  1. I hope he's not upset over the rather low counter offer from the Sox. I'd love to extend him before he becomes a FA. This kid is special. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/01/mookie-betts-wins-arbitration-case-over-red-sox.html
  2. HRam, $10M and Holt for Robertson.
  3. Speaking of the PAW Roster, if Swihart, Brentz, Marrero and Johnson make the big roster due to no options remaining, then Holt and others start in AAA. SP: Velazquez, Beeks, Elias, Haley, Shepherd (Shawaryn, Lakins & Stanky in AA) RP: Workman, Taylor, Buttrey, Martin, Jerez, Cuevas, Poyner, Walden (Cosart in AA) C: Butler & Romanski 1B: Travis (Ockimey in AA) 2B: Holt/Quiroz 3B: Chavis/ de Jesus SS: Lin/Holt/ M Miller LF: Tavarez CF: Castillo RF: Barfield/Mars DH: Witte
  4. Nobody here liked WM?
  5. If Devers can hit 30, maybe we could just sign Morrison or Duda.
  6. So might the other dozens of unsigned guys I'd prefer.
  7. What's the f***ing use or upside?
  8. Duda has a 4 year history of hitting for power. Morrison has one. Duda has injury concerns, but we're talking DH. I think they are both close, and I'd prefer Morrison, but Duda can be had for half the cost and maybe a third of the length.
  9. ERod will be coming back mid season. We need a starter who can start in April and May. I seriously dou bt it can or will be Buch. I also doubt Buch can beat out many journeymen starters signing minor league deals this time of year. I guess, if he can beat out one or two, in theory, I'd take him over those two. Problem is, we won't know until it's too late. Buch sucks. Let him sign with the Yanks.
  10. You mean we might actually get some legitimate Sox news tomorrow?
  11. Maybe normal, but for most of our recent ring years, we got by with almost all our starts from 5-6 starters. It's bad news, if Buch gets just one start. It will mean 2 guys got hurt and at least Velazquez and Johnson had bombed out.
  12. I think I'd rather have a bunch of shorter term deals than JD. I almost mentioned Watson with my Duda, Nunez & Cashner suggestion. I'd be fine with Morrison, Cashner, Watson & Phillips, but can we do that and still stay under the major penalty limit? Duda will get less than Morrison, and may be had for a 1 year deal. Much more flexibility.
  13. Why else would Buch be starting? I can understand HRam doing so well, he gets the vesting option, but I'm thinking he still might not vest, even if he's doing well. (He may get injured for part of the season, or JD & Moreland might also do well, and squeeze him from enough PAs to vest.)
  14. Darvish, Arrieta, Cobb, Lynn, Morrison, Moustakas, and maybe Holland. I'm keeping Hosmer out of my thoughts. I'm not sure I'd call Duda and Nunez significant, but if we signed both plus maybe Cashner, I might call that significant.
  15. It's hard to imagine us trying to get JD, missing out, and then signing nobody else instead. 99% chance we sign someone significant.
  16. I'd be worried, if other teams were signing top players left and right, but nobody is signing.
  17. It might mean 6 pitchers and Moreland got hurt.
  18. Exactly. There's no way we chose to reset the luxury tax this year only to go over by $5M by signing Moreland.
  19. Hoping is fine, but signing JD to $25M put's us over the luxury tax by $30M. We'd be over $227M on the luxury tax table. Going over $237M would kick in severe penalties. I hate to dash anyone's hopes (except your hope for Hosmer), but we will not sign two big cost free agents this winter.
  20. Lost seasons. Playing hurt both seasons. Did poorly vs both handed pitchers- but better vs RHPs. ...........2015/2017 vs LHPs: .710/ .679 vs RHPs: .720/ .769
  21. HRam vs LHPs (should be a great platoon) 1.097 in 2016 .869 in 2014 1.142 in 2013 .897 career vs LHPs .838 career vs RHPs
  22. From soxprospects.com http://news.soxprospects.com/2018/01/fallwinter-league-roundup-castillo_29.html Mexican Pacific League Hector Velazquez did not appear in a game this past week as his team, Mayos de Navajoa, dropped the championship series four games to three. Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League Ivan De Jesus Jr. wrapped up the regular season by going 0 for 3 with a walk in the finale. Rusney Castillo (pictured) finished strong, going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run. In the playoffs, De Jesus Jr. appeared in all four games for Santurce, going 3 for 15 with two walks and a run scored. Castillo enjoyed a better postseason in the leadoff spot for Caguas, going 5 for 13 with a double and two RBI. Caguas won the series against Santurce three games to none.
  23. He normally kills them. I think his injury hurt his numbers vs LHPs. I'm willing to see if the surgery helped (or not).
  24. Not, if we have JD or Duda. Part of the reason he might be doing so well, is that he only starts vs LHPs and some RHPs he has done well against in the past. Duda kills RHP'ers, so we'll have plenty of evidence to support the choice to play him over HRam.
