  2. Bring back Eddie Popowski! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Popowski
  3. Moncada with his 5th dinger of the season, today. He's up over .850 in OPS.
  4. Trade 'em all! We suck!
  5. It seemed like more of last year's mistakes were players being boneheads. This year, it seems like more have to do with the 3rd base coach than last year. Still, too many running into outs. I get that being aggressive will lead to some outs, and I'm not upset about the out at the plate yesterday, but cutting down on boneheadedness is never a bad thing.
  6. That's what the older generation said about us.
  7. You need to re-evaluate your priorities.
  8. Good point. So, was the chances Nunez would be thown out higher or lower than about 35%? When seen in this light, the choice to send Nunez was not horrible or clearly wrong. It was a bang-bang choice. The throw was nice, so it looked like a horrible choice.
  9. Maybe Betts had a 30% chance of getting a hit. What was the chance Nunez was going to be safe at home? 31%? 29%
  10. Apparently, any choice that fails is bad, and any choice that works is good.
  11. We thrive on tough competition. BRING IT ON!
  12. Some people might be so deeply invested in mathematics and data that they forget that there's a human side to baseball too and consequently forget that not everything in baseball is mathematically quantifiable. Some might be deeply invested in data but also played the game for over 20 years, totally enjoy the best game ever invented, totally have a deep emotional attachment to this wonderful game, and totally understand that not everything is quantifiable, including aspects on the "human side".
  13. I don't think fangraphs or anybody else I know does a very good job quantifying catcher defense, but for what it's worth, they have the Sox team catching defense ranked 23rd at +0.7. For some perspective, over 1/4th of ML teams are above 2.6. One could argue our catcher defense isn't as good as we think it is, but I disagree. Our catcher WAR ranks 30th at -0.6, which is 0.3 away from 29th place. O.3 is enough to move a team from 21st to 10th. our .434 catcher OPS is more than 100 points away from 25th place and about 200 points away from the team mean of .631. Other positions: RF 1.138 RF- 1st place SS .906- 4th place (even with Bogey out) 1B .871-6th place DH .830- 2nd place LF .786- 6th place 3B .779- 11th place 2B .773- 11th place CF .699- 16th place (surprisingly about average) We place here in WAR: 1st: DH 2nd: RF 5th: SS & 1B 8th: LF 15th: 3B & 2B 17th: CF 30th: C
  14. We almost pulled this game out of our ass. I agree: no way we have lost confidence. Infact, i think we gained some by tying the game in the 9th.
  15. I've always felt Bogey looks like the perfect #2 hitter. 1 Betts 2 Bogey 3 HRam 4 JMart 5 Devers 6 Beni 7 Nunez/Pedey 8 JBJ 9 Vaz
  16. We fought hard and sctratched our way to tie it up. It's a 162 game season for a reason. I still love this team and their chances.
  17. Of course. It was the right call, but since he was out, Cora sucks.
  18. For two innings you called for Kimbrel. Cora finally did what you wanted, and now it's "terrible coaching".
  19. Oh My Feakin God! Trade Swihart and extend Holt Now!
  20. Come on Holt! Shut me up for once and for all!
  21. I didn't expect Nunez to play everyday, and I could see him and Pedey getting the most rest, once Pedey reaches his maximum comeback level. Maybe Moreland sits more, if he's down to his career .780ish level. If Cora rests Betts, Beni, Bogey, Devers and JMart once every 20 games and Moreland, HRam, Pedey and JBJ once every 10 games, that leaves Nunez playing 13 out of 20 games. I guess that's close to enough. Maybe Pedey rests 3-4 games every 20, thereby giving Nunez about 3 out of every 4 games starting somewhere.
  22. Catcher defense involves more than throwing out base runners, blocking balls in the dirt and occaisonal plays around the plate. To me, getting the most out of your staff is very important but hard to quantify. I like what Vaz & Leon give us behind the plate, but the way Moreland & HRam are doing at 1B, and JBJ over .680, I can see how someone might see our catchers as our weakest position overall.
