    Devers isn't going anywhere. Moreland's defense at 1B partially offsets the step down in OF defense with JD in LF and Beni in CF, and the way Moreland is hitting now, it's a no-brainer. We aren't DF'ing JBJ. I could see us trying to trade 2 or 3 of the out-of-options bubble guys, but I'm not expecting anything but long shot prospects in return. Swihart Johnson Hembree (Maybe Wright)

    GMs don't totally judge players on what they did the last week, month or even year.

    Swihart is the easiest choice, but we won't DFA or Trade Swihart when bringing up a pitcher. He'll go when Pedey returns. The hard one will be Hembree traded/DFA'd or sending down Barnes or Velzquez. Some might argue trading/DFA'ing Johnson or sending down Barnes/Velazquez is just as difficult.

    Players rehab all the time while on the DL. It might be strange if he begins rehabbing day 1.

    It's not about him accepting or not. It's about another team snagging him up without having to trade anything for him.

    You mean 25 man roster not 40. Are we sure Wright will be called up and not given an extended rehab assignment? If so, it's crunch time. I'd say Johnson gets a phantom DL or is traded/DFA'd. That makes room for Wright. To make room for Thornburg, it would mean trading Hembree or sending Barnes or Velazquez to AAA. I don't really like any of those options, but I usually like to keep depth. Hembree looks bad, now, but he's been good in the past. Pedey's return looks easy: either DL Nunez or JBJ or trade Swihart.

    Beni may have some "speed", but he's anot a very good runner, He has no instincts at all, except bad ones.

    Come on! Swihart playing is one thing, but what possible justification is there to bat him 6th? BTW,do you have Nunez playing 2B and 3B, or are you going with a 4 man OF?

    Couldn't you then say the opposing pitcher is 80%of our offense (or lack of offense)? So, each hitter is just 2% of the equation?

    I agree and always have felt JBJ's defense outweighs any gain we'd get on offense. I did think it was a good idea to give him a couple days off, and I hope he improves. His great defense cannot support a .400 OPS. There are other great defensive OF'ers kicking around that can hit .550 to .600.

    Only 8 hitters, too. I have a great 6 man line-up, but I'm keeping it a secret.

    Late in games, when you are down 1 or 2 with your 7-8-9 or 8-9 hitters leading off, it feels a lot better having a guy with power up first. Since our 8-9 slots have been pathetic so far this year, maybe Betts up first has hurt some, but I'm fine with him up first as long as we keep getting power numbers from our 3-4-5hitters (HRam, JMart & Moreland/Devers). I'd preferBogey up first and Betts 2nd, as studies show the number 2 hitter is most important, but flipping them works for me as well. I know the 3 slot is not supposed to be as important as the 4 and 5 slots, but I'd like to see JD slotted 3rd. 1. Bogey 2. Betts 3. JMart 4. HRam 5. Beni If the 3 slot is really the 5th or 6th most important slot, then maybe HRam there is just right. 1. Bogey 2. Betts 3. HRam 4. JMart 5. Moreland or Beni vs R/Pedey vs L In short, Bogey deserves to take Beni's top 2 slot.

    JBJ is maybe my favorite player, despite his struggles at the plate. That being said, Moreland's bat has been very helpful thus far.

    On a lighter note, I was born in '59 and turned 59 today. The big 6-0 seems frightening to me, in some ways. I guess 70 is the new 50, or do only old guys say that?

    The return of Pedey will not only help out our weak IF defense, it should strengthen our bench and give Nunez some rest he may need to try and get back to 2017 form. We may even DL Nunez to allow Swihart another 10 days to try and show something (hard to do when he never plays). Pedey will also halp lengthen our line-up and turn the bottom 3 black-hole slots to 2. 1. Betts RF 2. Beni CF 3. HRam DH 4. JD LF 5. Bogey SS 6. Moreland 1B 7. Pedey 2B 8. Devers 3B 9. Vaz-Leon C (Actually, with JBJ benched, only 1 black hole.)

    I'm not so sure the MVP has been chosen based on WAR or mostly because of WAR. It really shouldn't be a surprise that the WAR leader is judged to be the MVP almost all the time. It could have happened, even if the WAR numbers were somehow kept sectret until after the voting took place. While hitting in the clutch and high leverage situations should be considered, I actually think it has been considered. Voters remember who got a lot of "big hits" when needed most and that is part of being the most valuable. Altuve got 27 first place votes to Judge's 2. Jose Ramirez got 1. Altuve's bWAR was 8.3 to 8.1 over Judge, suggesting the vote could have been closer. The fWAR had Judge ahead 8.2 to 7.6. I like WAR a lot, but it is not perfect. I do think Altuve should have won the MVP.

    Yes, and the fact that Cora loves to use his bench and has barely used Swihart speaks volumes.
