  1. Yes, he was right on LaRoche and the ugly uniforms.
  2. Yes, you were able to stockpile top prospects while trading others for top players. It can be done. Balance.
  3. Are you his agent? How can anyone be so blind? You want the worst fielding 1Bman to be our 1Bman for 7 years, and why? Because Bogey sucks at SS and JD sucks in RF. Wow! You want one of baseball's worst power-hitting 1Bman to sign with the team that needs power more than anything else. Why? Becaue your crack pipe whispers 35 Hrs in your bad ear. Maybe the best reason to not want Hosmer is that the Padres want him. He's not coming here. We signed Moreland, who actually can field. Wake up and smell the smoldering crack.
  4. You're right. He doesn't suck: he stinks horribly. I will be the worst this year or next. We're not signing JD to play RF. He will DH. Hosmer sucks badly. .
  5. 2 out of 4 beats the hell out of 2 for 11!
  6. Yes, and he's the guy most GMs ask about.
  7. Yes, and wasn't he used to get Chapman?
  8. It's not a low ball offer. JD is a DH. We never even paid Papi $20M. Papi was better and had a longer track record.
  9. You might get 2 of these right.
  10. You forgot... Hosmer sucks on defense and should get worse.
  11. He won't get $130M, unless you offer it to him. I doubt AZ or anyone else offers more than $100M. Put down the crack pipe.
  12. You don't get it. If nobody is offering more, how is it "low balling" or a "smoke screen?"
  13. JBJ is underrated.
  14. So could the Sox.
  15. If AZ offers less years, isn't that more insulting?
  16. If $100M is the highest offer, and AZ is scrambling to offer a shorter term deal, how are the Sox being insulting? I'd say the other 28 teams not thinking he's worth more are insulting.
  17. Yes, ask Bill Walton.
  18. If it's a $100M, then I can certainly understand why he's waiting it out. It also looks likje the whole "greed" debate could be unfounded. If we could get JD for $105M/5, we could spend more on someone else.
  19. Duda at $6M/1 (MLBTR's estimate) is the best gamble for the money. LoMo probably has a better chance at a big 2018 than Duda, Hoze or anyone else on this list. I think Moose might be the best of the bunch and would improve our leftside defense. (Devers to DH.) He might even take a pillow contract.
  20. We're at about $205M now, so we have about a $33M buffer zone. $25M JD $7M Nunez That would restrict us from getting any higher priced player mid season, unless we shed salary (HRam? Holt's $2M?)
  21. If we sign JD, we're blowing past the second level- with or without Watson or some other minor or mid-level signing. The "nuclear" limit is going over by $40M. We will not do that. Clubs that exceed the threshold by $20 million to $40 million are also subject to a 12 percent surtax. Meanwhile, those who exceed it by more than $40 million are taxed at a 42.5 percent rate the first time and a 45 percent rate if they exceed it by more than $40 million again the following year(s). Beginning in 2018, clubs that are $40 million or more above the threshold shall have their highest selection in the next Rule 4 Draft moved back 10 places unless the pick falls in the top six. In that case, the team will have its second-highest selection moved back 10 places instead.
  22. Millar often played the clown, but when it was game time, he was serious as a heart attack. Some players need to be put at ease, and a good leader notices who they are. Others seemingly need the opposite. Those ones are harder to lead, IMO.
  23. Good point. Certainly, when a young player is in the clubhouse and a vet like Papi of McHale says something, you're going to stop and listen-- or hopefully, you will. Great players (and leaders) can't just say, "Stay focused!" They have to model it. Also, learning how to stay focused is not all that easy for some. Even a great teacher or leader might not get through to everyone, while maybe some clown might say something that strikes a chord and begins a change.
  24. We have no space. We are already over.
  25. I'm not sure playing injured is "leadership." It is leading by example.
