  1. I'm still concerned about Beni vs LHPs. He's gotten his OPS up to .655 this yeat during his recent hot streak, but he's going to have be more consistent in that area. He's at .600 career, but the sample size is still just over 210 PAs. He deserves more time, but he's gotta do better than .600 or .655.
  2. All but the Sale trade. (Note: I'd have traded some of the players DD ended up trading at some point.)
  3. Yes, but giving all the credit to DD for trading away Ben's prospects is not really fair.
  4. They changed the rule based on what happened to Castillo, but his case is grandfathered. He's not on the 40 man roster, so his contract does not count, but if we add him, it will count, even if they remove him from the 40 man roster later.
  5. The only bad thing the HRam release created was a thinning of our1b depth chart. Moreland playing FT looks great now, but he could be playing way over his head. He's currently at .833 vs LHPs but has struggled against them pretty much his whole career. .682 vs LHPs in 2017 .684 vs LHPs career We have Holt and Swihart as bench help, but Sam Travis is doing porrly in AAA. With Pedey back, but not yet at FT, Nunez will be available to play more often and at more positions. To me, his availability in the OF allows JD to DH just about FT (OF in NL parks).
  6. I'm getting tired of reading about trolling on every thread with countless posts. It's like a troll trolling trolls.
  7. I guess you don't count all the Ben players traded by DD for Sale, Kimbrel, Pom and others.
  8. Imagine if Castillo's contract counted against the luxury budget! We'd be over the $40M limit this year and would be looking at going over again next year, unless we didn't sign Moreland and Nunez or traded some salary away.
  9. Nailed it. They dominated Philly and went 7 with LeBron. That's a sweet bench.
  10. We can see how much HRam's contract is handucffing us this year. Having that contract next year would have nearly crippled us.
  11. I think it was one of those Yankee fan posters who said there was no way Wright would pitch for us this season. I've always been a Wright fan, and it's nice to see him doing well out of the gate. I can't say he's one of my favorite players anymore, but he and Velazquez really give us some great middle relief-spot starter abilities.
  12. I was a little worried Beni was going through a sophomore slump season, but he's looking better than ever. While everyone is watching Betts and JD, we have a few other hitters capable of dominating. Keep it going Beni!
  13. 37-17 at the third of the season mark. Thanks Ben (& DD and Theo)!
  14. You are assuming he'll end up signing for the minimum. My guess is, he signs for $1.5-3M with someone.
  15. I respect the traditions of the game, but I can't see how a blown call is ever entertaining, except maybe when Earl Weaver covered home plate with dirt.
  16. We're almost a third of the way to the end of the season. Best records 36-17 Boston -1.0 NYY -2.5 HOU -2.5 MIL -3.5 SEA -5.0 ATL -5.5 PHI -6.0 WAS -6.5 STL -7.0 Cubs Teams that are basically out of it already (trade partners?): 16-34 CWS 17-36 BAL 19-35 CIN 18-35 KCR 19-33 MIA 22-33 TEX
  17. The sample size was 3.3 years. He sucked for about 2.3 of them. (3 negative WAR years and one 3.0 WAR year) Stat w LAD w BOS BA .299 .260 OBP .368 .326 SLG .506 .450 OPS .874 .776 OPS+ 144 102 We got the guy to hit, and an OPS+ of 102 was not any where near what we expected. DFA'ing a player who comes up that short is certainly a reasonable thing to do.
  18. What makes you think you'll find someone better? Even the very best umpires make too many bad balls & strikes calls.
  19. Nobody is going to pay HRam a significant salary. We may get more relief than we did for Pablo, but probably no more than a 2-4 million or so. If you add that to the $2-3M we already have, I guess it might allow us to trade for 2 mid range salary guys (pro-rated) or one high salary guy (pro-rated).
  20. Yes, it has changed the game, so did changing the mound height, how RP'ers are used, dead balls/live balls, the DH, and more. They used the shift against Ted Williams. I'm not saying I like the shift or that it hasn't changed the game, but I think changing the rules of the game so drastically is not warranted.
  21. The shift has nothing to do with the further unbalancing of the league into good and bad teams. The game has always changed. Many earlier changes were much more radical than the shift.
  22. I'm not missing that point. That point was based on him playing well in April and amassing enough PAs to "be on pace" to vest. That may be a point they use in a possible grievance, but HRam was playing himself into a benching and a no vest. 18 crappy games is significant enough to warrant a benching or DFA, Asking a team to bench a guy that was slated to be a back-up DH just so a grievance will not be filed is ludicrous. Moreland's hot start was a factor, because it basically relegated HRam to a DH role that was taken by JD. There literally was no place to play him, so the DFA was well founded and can be supported with a lot of evidence. Yes, HRam has some points on his side, duely noted, but IMO, he's not even close to winning a grievance. I believe that so firmly, I doubt one will even be filed.
  23. Usually, the first step is a demotion in the line-up and then a benching with perhaps a later look-see. Jumping from batting 2nd or 3rd to DFA seems strange. I still think the DFA was justified. He's given us nothing for 3 of his 4 years here. We gave him all the chances he could ask for. One could easily argue he hadn't won a FT job to start the season to begin with. Cora gave him the chance. He started off like he was going to claim the job for himself, despite Moreland and JD's great starts, but his last 18 games sealed his fate. The fact that Moreland and JD were both over 1.000 at the time of the DFA, makes the release grievance-proof in my book
  24. Just responding to your "telling" post.
