  1. Excellent point, S5. It's too early to make a definitive call on where we need an upgrade. We only have $2-3M left to spend, and precious few prospects, so we may be up for one significant acquisition. We better be sure we chose the right slot to upgrade and the right player to fill our needs.
  2. The Rockets are winning tomorrow night.
  3. He's setting himself up for one more finals loss.
  4. I'm not a Celtics fan at all, but they played their hearts out. Come back healthy next year and the east is yours.
  5. I'm not an attorney, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express...
  6. Maybe HRam will go on to have the same success Pablo is having after his release... You need to see second baseman Pablo Sandoval (!) rob a hit with a diving play and finger-wag afterward | MLB.com WWW.MLB.COM The Official Site of Major League Baseball
  7. I doubt they'd win the grievance. The one thing in their favor is the fact that Cora had HRam batting 2nd or 3rd right up to his release, Moreland & JDM hitting over 1.000 helps the Sox. HRam sucking 3 of the last 4 years is the clincher. Sox win any grievance.
  8. I've always felt like trying to improve your weakest link, even if it is not necessarily weak, is the best way to improve your team I do not think catcher is our weakest position. I do not think CF is our weakest position. Just because the first 8 weeks has seen weak offense from those two slots does not mean we need to upgrade at either of those positions. I actually think 2B has been our wekest position, so far due to awful defense AND weak hitting. The catcher and CF positions (along with RF) have carried our defense to respectability. Maybe by the time the trade deadlin is here, I'll be fed up with JBJ and Leon, but it's too early yet, and Leon andJBj seem to be heating up a little bit, so there's no rush at this point. If I had to guess, I think we'll trade for a RP'er, SP'er or a hitter who kills lefties.
  9. vs RHPs 1) Betts 2) Bogey 3) Beni 4) JDM 5) Moreland 6) Devers 7) Pedroia 8) JBJ 9) Leon vs LHPs 1) Betts 2) Pedroia 3) Bogey 4) JDM 5) Moreland 6) Beni/Nunez (Nunez plays everyday vs LHPs as Beni or Devers sit about 50-50 vs lefties) 7) Devers/Nunez 8) Leon 9) JBJ
  10. It also just seems wrong to change the rule, to me. Players should be able to stand anywhere they want. If a batter can't hit it to a wide open spot on the field, then so be it. I know it's frustrating to see a Sox player rip a line drive right at a "misplaced" fielder, but I think we noticed it more, because we were kind of late on applying the shift on opposing teams.
  11. Last 14 Days MLB Catcher OBP by Team .468 NYY .346 MIL .345 PIT .333 ATL & NYM .327 MIA & CWS .326 BOSTON (9th in MLB) OPS 11th at .667 (12 teams are below .610) (6 teams are below .555)
  12. Now we know why you want Swihart sticking around.
  13. Give it a break, or you'll be taking home the 2018 Broken Record Award. moonslav59 was the early leader for his repeated posts on the insanity of signing Moreland, so in a way, I'm cheering for you to take me off the hook.
  14. Personally, I'd prefer 5 IP and 2 ER over 6 IP and 3 ER as "quality," but the taxing of the pen is a killer, at times. Maybe a QS should be this: 5+ IP 2 ER 7+ IP 3 ER 9+ IP 4 ER This would take away the 6 IP 3 ER QS as well as 6.1 and 6.3 with 3 ERs.
  15. Between Natick & Larry, my head is spinning.
  16. The best evidence is that the Sox DFA'd him, They would not have done it, if they still had to pay the vest.
  17. If he goes unsigned for a month or two, he won't be meeting the PA number needed to vest anyways.
  18. You really equate the chances of these two guys hitting more like their career numbers than recent 8 week sample sizes to a lottery ticket?
  19. I hope all this rest pays dividends in October. The one guy I felt needed the most rest is near the league lead in IP and pitches thrown (Sale). I love Cora, but I'm scratching my head, here.
  20. Warning: small sample sizess Leon over his last 9 games: 10 for 27 (.370) 13 for 30 on base (.433) JBJ over last 14 games 7 for 40 (.175) 13 for 46 on base (.283) last 8 games 6 for 20 (.300) 7 for 21 on base (.333) Maybe there's a chance these two are starting to warm up.
  21. Nothing Swihart has done gives any hint that he's better than leon or Vaz. He is likely a slightly better hitter. He's clearly worse on defense. You can see what you want, feel what you want, and keep spouting nonsense, but Swihart is not going to catch any significant time this year, unless there's an injury.
  22. I'm wondering if Cora agreed to the actual statement DD made, or if DD ad libbed a little. Usually, a GM protects the manager and takes the heat on himself. Throwing a manager under the bus in the middle of a pennant race is not usually a good idea. I'm sure many players liked HRam and felt bad about what happened to him. I'm not sure if there is any anymosity felt towards Cora, now. I undrstand that the way DD worded his statement, it maximized the "baseball decision" part that would strengthen their case, assuming there might be one, in any grievance filed against the team by HRam. DD being able to say my manager asked me to DFA HRam helps the team's case. I'm just glad we're out of the vesting option and this ugly chapter or Pablo & HRam in Sox uniforms is over. We'll still be paying for it for a while, as Pablo's contract still has another year to go after this, but the final end is in sight.
  23. We're 2 games away from the season being one-third over. Here are our OPS numbers: 1.187 Betts 1.045 Moreland 1.016 JMart .879 Holt .864 Bogey .860 Beni .717 Devers .708 HRam (DFA) .634 Nunez .592 Leon .545 JBJ .464 Vaz .425 Swihart Here are our ERA+ Leaders 246 Kelly 227 Velazquez 206 Sale 194 Kimbrel 181 Barnes 140 Wright 123 Walden 121 Smith 119 Porcello 111 ERod 109 Price 93 Hembree 87 Johnson 66 Pomeranz SP'er records: 19-4 Sale, Porcello, ERod, Velazquez & Johnson 5-6 Price & Pom Team Record in Starts 9-1 ERod 7-4 Sale 7-4 Porcello 6-4 Price 4-3 Pomeranz 2-0 Velazquez 1-0 Johnson I wonder, if we are the only team in MLB that has a winning record when every starter starts. .
  24. Maybe you're on to something, but is that Cora's style?
  25. I hope it's not an injury. I was thinking it was just taking him a long time to get over the last injury. I agree about the demeanor point. It's way too early to give up on Pom.
