  1. Couldn't disagree more. Swihart had years and years to prove he could catch well enough to get a shot. Yes, they called him up earlier than they planned, but he got his shot. They even gave him a chance to earn a shot at another position. The injury sustained in the OF was unfortunate, but I don't blame management. They tried to trade for Beltran and the deal fell through at the last moment. They gave Swihart, perhaps the second chance he hadn't even earned. Swihart has only himelf to blame, if we are forced to play the blame game at all.
  2. Nunez could be put on the 10 day DL, but with Pedey not playing everyday, maybe we want to keep him on the roster. We do have the "hotter" Holt to play when Pedey sits.
  3. Betts has played 44 games. If you multiplied his numbers by 4, you'd have this! .368 64 140 195 runs scored 44 SBs 120 2B + 3B and a 15.5 WAR
  4. I think what the numbers show is that a +2 WAR player vs a 0 or -1 player probably doesn't make that much of a difference over a 45 game sample size. A couple game saving catches does not equate to +2 on WAR, but it might have been enough to offset the possible -2 JBJ had on offense. (Hypothetical scenario)
  5. How can you be "impressed" every time he's caught this year, when he's only caught 1 inning and had "the yips" in ST'ing games?
  6. Ummm, we're in a pennant race, and we can't have a player learn on the job like Swihart needs to do in the minors. He's not good enough to play. That's basically it. He's out of options, so he can't get the game practice in needed to develop, assuming he can and will.
  7. It's likely harder for Swihart to improve his catcher defense enough to be acceptable than to hit .750 and become a decent utility player.
  8. 1) Betts RF 2) Beni LF 3) Bogey SS 4) Martinez DH 5) v R Moreland 1B/ v L HRam 1B 6) v R Devers 3B/ v L Pedey 7) v R Pedey 2B/ v L Devers 3B 8) JBJ CF (can play Moreland vs some LHPs and have JD in the OF) 9) Leon C
  9. I didn't take it as criticism. BTW, I'm liking your .875 OPS projection better than my .800 at this point.
  10. If Holt can stick around with a .332 career OBP and an OPS below .700 with that glove, the bar should not be much higher for Swihart. Nunez has a career .313 OBP and an OPS just over .725. It's not hard to imagine Swihart hitting better than .725 or .750, if given a long look, and if he could do that he should make a team and get to play, but that's a big if. It's hard to read much into Swihart's MLB numbers. He's played hurt and was called up before his expected arrival date. He was over .710 after his first 380 PAs in the bigs. His .615 AAA OPS is very discouraging, but it was only 485 PAs spread over 4 years with some falling during rehab times. The .843 AA OPS in 387 PAs seems so long ago, and I guess 2014 was pretty long ago. I guess I've just lost a lot of the early hope I had in his offense. I've never had much hope in his defense. Early on, I suggested a position change, but some of that was based on my belief that Vaz was going to be better than he's shown, so far. .
  11. I've never disliked Beni. Yes, the base running blunder drove me crazy, but I always believed he could hit. This was my projection on page 1 of this thread: PA: 680 Beni .280 25 100 (.355/.445/.800) That's not too far from your projection.
  12. I hate to agree, but nothing you said was wrong. Maybe last year's good numbers went to his head, and he took his foot off the gas a little bit and now is grasping for a way to recover.
  13. Yes, you did! Go Beni- GO!
  14. He's also had a number of hot streaks over his career- some of pretty significant in length. 2017: May .829 & June .779 2016: .845 in 78 games, including still being over .900 after 70 games. 2013-2014: .938 in 38 games in the winter league 2012: .856 in 64 games (over 3 levels) He's certainly been cold more than hot, but they guy can give you some offense here and there. He had a .720 OPS in AAA over 498 PAs (.343 OBP). .659 is a pretty awful career ML OPS, but his time has been spread out over 7 seasons (876 PAs).His career OBP is .305.
  15. I am about the world's biggest supporter of free speech and avoiding censorship, but I have to agree with your sentiments.
  16. Fat Sandy had an OPS of .214 on April 24th. Yes, OPS not BA or OBP. OPS. He was at .440 on may 11th. He's at .533 now. JBJ was at .502 a few days ago. He's at .533 after tonight. Beni was at .712 on May 4th. He went oh for 4 tonight and still is over .825. It looks like other players are starting to improve. Let's hope it continues and spreads to others.
  17. I told you in 2 weeks you'd love Sandy. You said, "no way." You were right. It took you 2 days not 2 weeks!
  18. Maybe if he stuck to one position for a while he could become better than adequate. If he could hit better than Holt or Nunez, he wouldn't have to be good on defense anywhere, as long as he could just play the role. I've always had pretty high hopes for Swihart, but he's never proven he can hit better than Holt or Nunez. Without any plus on defense, he's lucky to still be on the ML roster.
  19. We gave the super athletic Swihart a chance to find another position after apparently proving to Sox management he cannot catch at the ML level. We did him a favor. The injury was unfortuneate, but Swihart should have no complaints. He'll get a chance with another team, soon.
  20. Another 10+ K effort by our staff (33 on the season).
  21. Last I checked, Sale was second in MLB in pitches thrown. I was hoping we went easy with him in the first half of the season.
  22. Don't look now, but Leon has gotten on base in 10 of his last 22 PAs (.455 OBP). Also, 7 hits in his last 19 ABs (.368). SSS, yes, but it's larger than some here use to declare someone sucks.
