  1. We've hit great pitching well several times this year. We have to do it tonight. We've always seemed to pull out a win, when we needed it most. I'm confident this team will rise up again.
  2. I agree, but I hate the way Alabama pads their schedule, except for the SEC match-ups, in which they are forced to play. This year's patsies: Louisville Arkansas St. Louisiana The Citadel I guess you can't blame them: they have to play 8 conference games. 4 of those 8 are currently ranked between 13 and 24. They certainly do not have a patsy schedule, but the 4 games they choose are almost always very weak teams.
  3. My revised top 11 1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Clemson 4. Notre Dame 5. LSU 6. Texas 7. UCF 8. Michigan 9. Oregon 10. Florida 11. Oklahoma
  4. 5.28 Price 5.85 Sale 6.26 Severino
  5. I disagree. When a player or team is known for taking first pitches, smart teams will throw strikes on the first pitch. I thought the pitch Betts swung at was a good one to swing at. Also, when a pitcher is showing wildness, they will sometimes just try to throw one right down the middle, thinking the batter will take the first pitch.
  6. Nunez is clearly a better defender at 3B than Devers. With all due respect, to blame Cora for Nunez's poor defense is a joke.
  7. Exactly. His past post season stats were a very small sample size and pretty long ago. I doubt his poor showing will change anyone's minds though.
  8. Good points, but Sale did hit 93 a few times. That's more like 2-4 off this season's norm, and an amount that could be made up for by his next start. We'll have to wait and see. I'm glad game 5 is in Houston- not frigid Boston.
  9. I am certainly more concerned now than ever about Sale's arm, and I was the biggest proponent of resting him last year, even if it risked us not winning the division. I think I stood alone on that one. Don't get me wrong, I AM concerned. I am also confident Sale will do better his next start. Most pitchers have had arm issues at some point in their career, that's one reason I feel no SP'er should get 7+ years at over $30M,
  10. I'm fine with talking about 2019 and beyond on this 2018 thread. That being said, and bring this back to 2018, I'm wondering if the cold temperatures had something to do with Sale's problems last night. I'm not reaching for excuses, but he didn't even wear a warm long sleeve undergarment. I hope it's warmer for his next start, but I am far away from giving up on Sale for this year and next. Now, about the future. There is no soon-to-be-FA SP'er in MLB today that I would give $31M x 7+ years.
  11. Note: I said I wanted Betts over Sale, but that doesn't mean I don't want Sale. I want him, but I would not pay him Price money.
  12. Michigan might not jump to #7, like I have them, but they belong in the top 10 over Oregon and Okl. . I agree Oklahoma should top West Va. Michigan started as #12 and they just beat a damn good Wisconsin team (#14). True, Oregon just beat #7 Washington, but they started out at #17 not #12. Oklahoma started as #11 and did not play. I think Michigan's win over Wisconsin is enough to have them jump over OK.
  13. I used to be surprised. Not anymore.
  14. As expected...posters quickly jumping off the bandwagon, again.
  15. Maybe the new top 10 will be... 1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Clemson 4. Notre Dame 5. LSU 6. Texas 7. Michigan 8. UCF 9. Florida 10. Oklahoma/West Virginia
  16. We have to get to Cole early and often tomorrow.
  17. I hear you, but for me, saying I want Betts more doesn't take anything away from my love for.... Chris Freakin' Sale!
  18. Hard to fault Betts, since often the best pitch to hit is the first one, but yes, Verlander looked like he was losing control.
  19. It might have been enough tonight as Nunez making those two plays might have kept us up 2-1.
  20. No, I actually think winning the year before makes it harder to win again. No team has won back to back since '99-'00. The SFG are the only team to win 2 in 3 years ('10 & '12). Complacency is as real as experience- not that I'm calling the 'stros complacent, but team focus on learning ways to beat the "team to beat", and i think the Sox improved enough to beat them.
  21. Yes, they are, but it might be difficult to pay 3 guys $95M. (Price, Betts & sale)
  22. True. If it's between Betts and Sale, Betts all the way.
  23. What happened to the game thread?
  24. Being last year's champion means very little, if not nothing. Teams change too much from year to year. We are not the same team and neither are they.
