  1. Price doesn't deserve another start. He is trash in the playoffs. Cora can't figure that out? Bad play by Bogey. Cheap bloop hit. 4 BBs was bad, but I thought Price looked good enough to start again. ERod scares me right now.
  2. I'd stick with Porcello for game 4, in case we need him in game 7. Moving him back to game 5 lessens what he can give us in game 7. I'm glad Eovaldi is going game 3, and yes all odd numbered games are pivotal when a series is tied. I'd bench Kinsler for good and use him just as a late inning defensive replacement for Holt at 2B. Devers should start. He's always hit well, when it counts. His defense shocked me tonight. I'd move JBj to 7th in the order. Vaz looks like his bat is improving to 2017 levels. He's the guy with Eovaldi & Porcello anyways, so maybe we can get some good O from him. How about Leon being used as a pinch runner? LMAO!
  3. ...as in Shaken Baby Syndrome? Maybe.
  4. The Astros still have some nice young arms, and their farm is not empty. What happens with Keuchel and Morton will be interesting.
  5. Maybe rumors of his arm going kaput are just rumors.
  6. My take aways... Great game! Huge hit by JBJ. Kinsler cannot hit, if his life depended on it. Price looked better than the numbers show. What was Bogey thinking when he nonchalantly played that ball? Devers looks like he has his hitting eye back. I'd play him (3B) and Holt (2B) as much as possible. Cora managed a great game. Our pen carried us. Surprise, surprise! Porcello has proven to be our savior. Kimbrel sure likes to play with fire. Often it's firemen who are the pyros. Now, go take 2 here in Houston!
  7. A lot depends on how high their budget can and will go. If they choose to spend like the Sox this year, they can keep the window open for longer than we can (at $39M over the limit).
  8. Trading Moreland and freeing up his money may be a good way to make the change a year earlier.
  9. Biggest surprise? JBJ not batting 9th. Lesser ones.... Vaz catching Price Holt on the bench Pearce up 5th over the lefty Devers I'm sure others might see more.
  10. Humans are humans. Even the best umps make too many mistakes- accountability or not. No ump could have called that strike that was thrown when Vaz stood up and blocked the view. Robo umps for balls and strikes needs to begin in 2019.
  11. Fielding % is a horrible way to compare fielders.
  12. As much as I love Chris Freakin' Sale, I agree.
  13. Soxprospects.com has this... Arm: Plus arm strength. Touched the mid-90s off the mound in college. Plenty of arm for third base, able to make all the throws including balls fielded on the foul line. Will have accuracy problems on occasion as throws can sail on him. Field: Hands work well and footwork is usually reliable. A little stiff and has some trouble getting down on ground balls when charging the ball. Doesn’t have great range, but makes up for that somewhat with his length, allowing him to cover more ground than his feet would normally allow. Projects as an average defender at third base with the potential to be above-average.
  14. Price ERA by catcher in 2018: 2.37 with leon (84 IP) 4.68 with vaz (92 IP) Career 2.83 w Leon (194 IP) 4.32 w Vaz (263 IP) That's a lot of offense needed from Vaz to overcome a 2 run differential. Start Leon, and once Price is removed, PH for Leon.
  15. Not a bad idea. We could also just move him to 1B and try to acquire a real 3Bman. We'd probably have to trade Moreland, since both he and Devers both do better vs righties.
  16. Same line-up tonight? Or, do we see Devers at 3B?
  17. There's nothing comfortable about either choice you make at 3B. One of my biggest worries before the season started was watching Devers make a crucial error in a key game of the playoffs. I liked the Nunez signing as insurance at 2B and 3B, but I knew he was not a plus defender either.
  18. ...but it was the defense by Nunez that hurt us.
  19. Agreed. Sale only threw around 150 innings this year. Thus, we can't say he is wearing down as the season has gone on. Instead, an arm/shoulder issue is more likely the culprit. Well, it could still be viewed as "breaking down," since both DL stints happened in the second half of the season. I'm not sure if this whole "mechanics" argument is just a ploy to take the focus off an actual injury, but there is a chance that once he fixes the mechanics issue he incurred after missing time (not uncommon), he may prove there really is no major arm issue. We may know more next game. Sale has a violent delivery. I don't think anyone would be surprised that that kind of delivery would eventually catch up to him. Can't argue with this.
  20. ...or a bad feeling about Devers.
  21. I'm not arguing about who is better. I'd have started Devers and held my breathe on every ball hit his way. My point was, you blamed Cora for Nunez making 2 bad plays on defense. Nunez is not very good on defense, but he is way better than Devers on defense. Nothing Cora did in game 1 is worth heavy criticism. If you want to blame someone, blame DD for not giving Cora a 3Bman who can field and hit. (Note: I do not blame DD for going with Devers and having Nunez as a back-up at 2B/3B. Not many teams have a guy like Nunez to fill in. He just had a bad game at the wrong time.
  22. Yes, Price today and then Porcello & Eovaldi later.
  23. Nothing to disagree with here. I'm wondering how Sale's arm feels today.
