  1. If we win this game, which is no sure thing, my guess we will then be favorites to win the whole series.
  2. Holt starting at 1B. I like it. I'd rather see JD at clean-up, but I have no complaints. 1. Mookie Betts, RF 2. Andrew Benintendi, LF 3. J.D. Martinez, DH 4. Xander Bogaerts, SS 5. Rafael Devers, 3B 6. Brock Holt, 1B 7. Ian Kinsler, 2B 8. Sandy Leon, C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr., CF
  3. One big reason the Yanks broke the team HR record is their short RF. The fact that Vaz hit one there is just payback.... not luck.
  4. While Sale and Price are certainly different people, it's not a "flawed assumption" that Sale wlll decline in the near future. It's an extremely likely reality with the only question being "when". Not just when, but bu how much. The evidence is in nearly ever pitcher ever. There are actually quite a few pitchers who do very well after 31 and some that do even better than before 31. Some even do very well into their late 30's. Really, with Sale, if you want him back after 2019, you have to be prepared that he will start to decline in 2020. It's not the type of contract DD should enter under complete denial that Sale will last for 7 years, which I doubt any GM has ever had that denial in a long term deal. If they did, the deals would be structured differently. A slight decline from being the best may not be all that bad. A decline like Price's would not be good. 4-5 good years? Define good. He isn't not going to be a 6 fWAR pitcher at age 35. And at some point in his next deal, he is gong to be a heavily paid mediocrity. really, what it comes down to is, will the good years be enough to justify the bad ones?. Would this be 4-5 good years? Age WAR 31 6.5 32 6.0 33 5.5 34 5.0 35 4.5 36 3.7 37 3.0
  5. 6-4, but will there be more?
  6. If this was a Sox game, the board would have been roasting Cora alive for those moves... until they worked....
  7. I'm not saying I want to sign Sale to a similar deal as Price, but I do think he has a good chance at being very very good for a long time. (BTW, I thought the same about Price.)
  8. I think that's a reasonable opinion, but i also think there's a good chance he stays very good for maybe 4-5 more year.
  9. Maddox is not on their "graduated list". Travis and Poyner are 25. Lin is 23. They look at upside potential.
  10. soxprospects.com just came out with their final year rankings... 1. Chavis 2. Casas +2 3. Groome +2 4. Dalbec +8 5. D. Hernandez +6 6. Houck -3 7. Mata -5 8. A. Flores +7 9, Chatham 10. 11. Wanting to and thing you can learn from your mistakes is maybe the single most important lesson in life. I'm hopeful Sale is in just the right frame of mind and that his body is well rested and ready to go.
  12. Yes. I thought what he said was perfect.
  13. Here's the quote... https://twitter.com/PeteAbe/status/1050171255519895552/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1050171255519895552&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Flarrybrownsports.com%2Fbaseball%2Fchris-sale-playoffs-lesson-suck%2F467937
  14. True enough, but with the top 5 teams making it each year, and being in the easiest division in MLB, I'm not sure it's a great as it looks.
  15. For good reason. Even if you guys beat the Sox, he'd be roasted more.
  16. Still hung over from the big loss.
  17. 3-2-2 give one team 5 home games to 2, but I like the 3-3-1 idea.
  18. True, but Tito is 15-19 in playoff games since 2008. Is that small, too? Farrell was 5-8 and was skewered alive by Sox fans, including me. Look, I get why Sox fans love Tito. The guy brought us 2 rings after decades and decades of frustration, but you should count the good and bad, and although Cora's sample size is teenie, there's no bad-- only good. Like I said, I may adjust my opinion in the future. Right now, I think Cora has us positioned to win it all this year. If I'm wrong, and we lose this year, maybe I'll call it a tie. Maybe I'll still have Cora ahead, depending on how we may lose. Cora has done a great job with this team. He's greatly lessened the blunders and bone-headed plays. Players are more focused and seem to have much more fire and desire. They exude confidence but not cockiness. Our pen looks like crap on paper, but somehow we finished top 10 in pen WAR. Despite Pom's implosion and losing Wright for most of the year and ERod & Sale for some time, we still finished 6th in SP'er WAR. I know this is not all Cora's doing. DD and the players play a big part in our improvement, but I give a lot of credit to Cora. I doubt we win 98 game with Farrell.
  19. The slight lead is not even close. LOL, you got me!
  20. They're already roasting him every game thread. I stopped visiting those threads until the 9th inning.
  21. Tito was an excellent manager for us, until he lost it a little. The Guardians are 12-12 in the playoffs under TF. For all the "what have you done for me lately" crowd on this site, there's an awful lot of loving going to Tito. Don't get me wrong, he was the best manager I ever saw on the Sox, even above Dick Williams, but I'm still putting Cora slightly ahead of him at this moment in time.
  22. The guy must be blind. It explains everything.
  23. ...and then extend him at the free agent level.
  24. I hate to say it, but no. I might offer $155M/5 with a $25M option with a $5M buyout, so it's $$160M/5 or $180M/6, if we choose.
