  1. I don't know how much longer we keep Story in the two slot, but knowing Cora, it will likely be longer than most of us would choose to do.
  2. Crawford is slated to throw four simulated innings on Monday or Tuesday before beginning a minor league rehab assignment. Crawford didn’t pitch in the majors or minors in 2025 due to both a lingering knee injury, and then wrist surgery.
  3. It may not be 100% accurate, but it's consistent and pitchers/batters will know what is a strike and what is a ball.
  4. Foutch did well starting for Salem 3IP 0H 0ER 1BB 2K Futrell did better and went 4 1H, 0ER, 1BB, 6K Fermin w 2 hits (1.667)
  5. Eyanson looked good. 3IP, 3H, 1ER, 0BB, 6K Phillips not so good. 0.2, 3H, 4ER, 3BB, OK Cespedes is on fire- 3 for 5 (up to 1.319) Gonzales 1-4 w HR and BB
  6. Holobetz looking good, today: 5 IP 2H 0ER 2BB 3K Sea Dogs up 1-0 into the 9th.
  7. Early was not at his best. 0 for 5 with RISP More hits than the Padres but less runs. Need the win, tomorrow.
  8. They could go IKF at SS. He's the Six Million Dollar Man!
  9. Bennett pitched really well, today. 5 IP 1H 0ER 2BB 4K Gasper, Eaton & Cheng homered in the 5-3 win. Sogard got on base in 3 of 5 PAs.
  10. No, but it makes me wonder what if...
  11. It's early, but I think the two will be close in fWAR.
  12. Verdugo was okay on defense in LF. I think even JD and Refsnyder were not negatives in DRS in LF. Nava was a plus, as was the seldom used Rusney. I think Holt, DMac and Bill Hall were okay. Jason Bay and Jacoby were not negatives on LF D. O'Leary was okay. I always thought Greenwell was not plus on D. Yaz was a plus in the early to mid 70's. Rick Miller hardly played LF but was plus.
  13. LF in Fenway is tricky, too, so maybe we see Duran more in LF at home and Anthony away.
  14. Yes, we all know that. I figured he'd DH more than Anthony, or at least I feel he should. Counting Anthony, today, the tally will be: 3 Duran .539 as DH 3 Anthony .347 as DH 2 Yoshida .375 as DH
  15. The $90M/4 extension offer did seem low, but it looks like it pretty much nailed what he actually produced in those 4 years.
  16. I realize the loss of Betts added fuel to the anger over losing Bogey, but the talk has just about disappeared after watching Bogey's SD production... or lack of it. I did not think he was worth $25M x 6, but I was okay offering it, with the idea that he would not spend all 6 years at SS. One issue that makes his loss hurt is that our middle infield has been very bad, since he left. Story has had one decent year on offense, and it happened the same year his defense was below average. Our 2B clown carrousel has been hideous. Bogey would have been an improvement at either slot, but still not worth $25M/yr.
  17. Only 107 RP'ers have over 200 IP since 2021, so despite being used as a SP'er, Whitlock still has a large enough pen sample size to be valid. He places... 3rd in ERA- (57) 6th FIP at 2.72 and 12th in xFIP (3.10) 13th in K%-BB% (23%) 14th LOB% at 79% 16th HR/9 (0.69) 21st in fWAR at 4..8 33rd in K/9 (10.6) but 14th in BB/9 at 2.4
  18. 1. Anthony (DH again) 2. Story (up 2nd again) 3. Duran (LF again) 4. Contreras (will homer again?) 1B 5. Abreu RF (has 6 RBI) 6. Durbin 3B (needs to heat up) 7. Mayer 2B (stay hot, please!) 8. Narvaez C (Out of the dog house?) 9. Rafaela CF (3 RBIs is second on the team)
  19. The diss seems totally baseless to me. It's not like he's a junk ball pitcher getting by on smoke and mirrors. The guy has some of the nastiest stuff on the staff. He's had too many good stretches to think it was all a fluke. Barnes had some long decent stretches, over his career, but was never great, until that one half season.
  20. I'm not sure the Brez plan was to spend on Gray and Suarez. Suarez (and Durbin) were the fall back on Bregman. Still, the bottom line was that Brez invested in SP'ers more than batters and the pen combined. He also traded JH Garcia (a bat) for Oviedo. Brez did trade quite a lot of prospect pitching, so that balanced things a little bit, but Max's point stands as correct. Pitchers traded: MLB pitchers: Fitts, Dobbins, Harrison, Bernardino, Murphy, Guerrero & Hicks Prospects: 4 Perales 8 Clarke 10 Fajardo 12 Sandlin 18 Drohan 20 Travieso 21 Paez (lost to Rule 5 and then returned) plus Aita & Hoppe That's over 15 pitchers lost. 7 Added: Suarez, Gray, Oviedo & Bennett Watson, Coulombe & Samaniego
  21. I liked the idea of Swanson, too. My position on Bogey was that he wanted SS money and he was better as a 3B/2Bman. I questioned whether he'd have earned even $25M x 6, which was a number thrown around a lot as an extension he might have take a year or more before he became a FA. (I'm not so sure he'd have taken that, and what he eventually got means he would have been right to say no.) I don't think he will earn $25M x 6, but most big FA don't earn what they get. The scary thing with Bogey is, he kinda didn't even earn it year 1 and 2. He was close, though.
  22. Here are some selected players' OPS. (These are players that were FAs, traded or discussed a lot as trade targets... (plus, a few others) .154 Refsnyder .228 Ozuna .279 Kurtz .334 Arenado .355 Rooker (not much talk about him) .433 Matt Shaw .461 Bichette (lead MLB in ABs) .481 Chisholm .532 KMarte .551 B Matthews .559 Bohm .576 Keaschall .582 Polanco .586 B Stott .636 G Torres .649 Devers O'Neill .651 .660 Semien .669 Tucker (not a Sox target) .725 Alonso (Willson is at .671) .730 Arraez .742 Bregman .755 Paredes .767 E Tovar & E Suarez .784 Neto .787 Okamoto .812 M Muncy LAD .821 CJ Abrams .858 Hoerner .891 Royce Lewis .967 Murakami .975 Schwarber .990 C Seager 1.148 O'Hearn 1.152 Yandy Diaz & Brendan Donovan 1.156 Tristan Gray (11 ABs) 1.250 Viento (12 ABs) 1.319 B Lowe Note: these are very small sample sizes.
  23. How about the SSS start by our catchers? 10 for 22 with 3 2Bs (all by Wong) Sox catchers are 4th in fWAR at +0.4 4th in C OPS at 1.045 1st in C BA at .455 (1st in OBP at .455)
  24. That was a tough play to make. In a perfect world, he gets a better jump, takes a perfect angle, gets to the spot in front of the wall and jumps up (not back) and catches the ball without hitting against it. I'm not complaining: it was a very nice catch on a difficult ball to catch. It looked like the ball was hooking. That was a real nice win- all around.
