  1. Romy, too. The way Ref is doing, it didn't hurt.
  2. The Anthony-Mayer-Campbell trio might have been the highest ranked in the history of the Sox. The jury is still out, as these guys are young and making adjustments as we speak. Now that our focus has turned to pitching, maybe guys like Arias, Gonzales and Godbout can surprise us. The way Arias is hitting, it might not be a shock, if he does well.
  3. That's what most people agree on, and it seemed that way to me, too. IMO, these type of early extensions should be very well thought out. Most teams that do this often sign just he cream of the crop, and I'd say that appeared to be Anthony and Campbell. (Mayer's injuries prevented him from being on the short list.) The Bello & Rahaela signings were not in that mold, but they also did not sign for big money, either (nor did KC.) The Bello extension looks real bad, now, despite getting some good pitching from him for a couple years. Rafaela might exceed the value of his deal at this pace.
  4. Super star or just a star? I think they felt the Minor League Player of the Year had a good chance at becoming a star or better. Note: he still might.
  5. True, but that should have been the plan. Casas injury> Yoshida DH.
  6. This makes me shake my head: BA/OBP/SLG/OPS .235/314/.353/.667 Overall .240/319/.356/.675 Men on Base .245/.329/.369/.698 RISP While all these numbers suck, it surprises me they do better when men ar on base & in scoring position. (Slightly. It was better a couple weeks ago.)
  7. I get that but Breggie is better at 3B, Devers is better at 1B, Casas is better at 1B and Story was better at 2B. (Mayer SS?)
  8. Okay. I thought you were starting with 2027 and assumed KMarte would not accept the $11.5M player option at the end.
  9. KC would not have been arb eligible for a few more years, so ask again, later.
  10. In the tiny sample size he faced LHPs, this year (8 PAs) he has an OPS over 1.100.
  11. The league context is needed, and the TBR ranks this in the AL, but yes-- WOW! 14th in HRs (Ahead of BOS) 15th in fWAR everyday players 10th OPS 3rds OBP 3rd Pitching fWAR (2nd ERA- and 6th in FIP) 3rd Defense DRS
  12. True, but wasnt it just for one added year?
  13. That's the worst corner infield defense in MLB history.... Casas & Devers
  14. I can't know what any one GM might be thinking. I'm sure he'd have traded Tomas for Duran... LOL. One thing that got me talking KMarte so much, this past winter was his relatively low pay: 26:$15M, 27:$12M, 28:$20M, 29:$22M, 30:$22M, 31:$11.5M player option
  15. They aren't in salary dump mode, and I don't think they'd take Duran and Bello, even if we paid their full boats. Duran- NO! I think he may be viewed as a headcase by some GMs, past prime by others and maybe both by more than we think.
  16. If AZ is out of it near the deadline, we might have a shot, but will likely be sellers not buyers.
  17. If nobody was beating down the door for Duran a few months ago, I doubt anyone is now. To me, the hope that he might return to his 2024 or even 2025 form is probably worth enough to keep him over trading him for peanuts. Nobody wants Yoshida or Story, even if we pay all but $6-8M of their deals- maybe not even $4-5M remaining. (Maybe not even $2M!) Our value pieces are Gray and Chapman.
  18. Payroll coming off the books in AAV: $21M Gray (with $30M mutual option for 2027 and $10M buyout) $13.3M Chapman (w $13M mutual option and $300K buyout) $9.1M Sandoval $7.5M Whitlock (w $10.5M club option and $500K buyout) $6M IKF $1M Coulombe _______________________ After 2027: $25M Story (with $25M option for 2028 w $5M buyout) $21.3M Contreras (with $17.5M in 2028 w $7.5M buyout) $18M Yoshida Last ARB Houck & Oviedo ________________________ After 2028 Last ARB Duran, Crawford, Romy, Casas, Wong ________________________ Players under control beyond 2028: Crochet, Suarez, Anthony, Rafaela, Bello, Campbell ARBS: Abreu, Narvaez, Slaten, Durbin, Monasterio, Weissert, Moran, Kelly, Eaton Early, Tolle, Mayer, Bennett, Seigler, Watson, Samaniego plus prospects
  19. Good point, and for those reasons not extending Houck & Crawford didn't happen, either.
  20. and also Betts, Bogey and .... I don't remember a loud drum beat for Houck and Crawford, but I'm sure some wanted them extended after they looked good for a while.
  21. Let's look at some players, now: Early Tolle It IS "completely unnecessary" to extend these guys, but waiting risks the price gettin so high JH won't approve an extension or re-sign later... That's the reasoning behind it- right or wrong.
  22. If they did during similar time frames as these others, it would have been during the Bloom era.
