  1. Here's an interesting comp between 2018 and 2019. Players with 250+ PAs and the top ranked in ISO. 2019 has the top 8 with 6 guys over .344! Last year's leader, Max Muncy, was at .319. 9 out of top 10 were from 2019. 14 of the top 20. 22 of 30. 29 of 40. 38 out of 50 (76%). However, look at the Sox comps: .299 JD 2018 .294 Betts 2018 .271 JD 2019 .267 Bogey 2019 .259 Devers 2019 .234 Bogey 2018 .218 Betts 2019 .195 Vaz 2019 .193 Devers 2018 Team: .185 2018 (19th in MLB from 2018-2019: 2 years x 30 teams=60 samples) .205 2019 (5th in MLB from 2018-2019)
  2. Bell didn't say "most". He said, "lots."
  3. So, nobody blows saves against us. That's the real reason we suck!
  4. I was wondering if they forgot the negative sign.
  5. He needs to go based on next season(s).
  6. Yes, and the owners of General Electric can afford to give big raises to their workers, but the don't. It's all about maximizing profits. Why should owner pay more or lower ticket prices, wen they don't have to and can make more by not doing so?
  7. It's worse than some think.
  8. Holt is a FA. We'd have to sign him (and stay under to reset). He may not be part of the 2B/1B mix. I think Chavis and Marco play 2B with Chavis playing some at 1B, if he can improve on his numbers after his first 14 games of 2019. All hands on deck!
  9. A large percent of the highest paid contracts did not turn out well for the teams. Even the ones that did work had issues. However, most of those deals were with players that were older or much older than Betts will be when he is a FA.
  10. Yes, he gets $2M a year until 2026. Lucky it doesn't count on the luxury tax ticker. That being said, it was one of the greatest Sox FA signing ever
  11. I'm the biggest Sox fan in the universe, and I'd prefer to see next year's talent, now. I don't want to watch Porcello and Moreland anymore..
  12. Yes, we do have some "ifs" that are near or at ML readiness. I'd add Ockimey and maybe Feltman and Ward to your list. My point was that these guys are higher ranked than most of the older prospects: soxprospects.com rankings: (age) 1. Casas (19) 2. Mata (20) may be ready next year 5. Groome (21) injury set back 1-2 years 6. Jimenez (19) 11. Lugo (18) 12. Decker (19) 13. A Flores (18) (My "sleeper" is Danny Diaz, ranked 25, at age 18.)
  13. He had done pretty well in his previous starts, and the guy is known to be streaky. He's also known for giving up a bomb and then settling down.
  14. Burn crappy arms to the ground, you mean. We got nobody better than Porcello, and that pretty much sums it all up.
  15. If we make an offer like that, and he bolts, I won't be upset with management. Other than the Lester fiasco, we've done a good job placing a value on our own talent, making good offers, and walking away, when someone offers more. It's one area we seem to be very good in.
  16. Exactly. Bring up Dalbec and Ockimey to play 1B. Let Marco and Chatham play 2B, and give Bogey and Devers a breather here and there at SS/3B. Let's see how Centeno looks as a possible Leon replacement next year. If they think Duran is ML ready, bring him on! Pitching? Bring up Houck and Velezaquez and others. I'd let Johnson start 3-4 more games and tell him he's going 5, unless he lets up 8 runs. Last chance train for him. Shut Price down.
  17. I'd do $33M x 8, easily. I might go $30M x 10, which is $34M x 2 more.
  18. Most of our best prospects are years away. Many may never see the majors.
  19. If we reset in 2020 and go back to spending large quickly afterwards, we can afford him. Can vs should is the debate, IMO, not if we can.
  20. He's played 230 innings at 1B- career. I'd have thought they'd play him more there this year. He may be a better defensive 3Bman than Devers, so maybe that's why the resisted, but still...
  21. I don't totally agree with everything here, but your points are all valid and logical. Other teams will be scrambling to try and keep all their assets on the 40 man roster with rule 5 choices to be made. We have 10 guys we could cut and not be any worse.
  22. Come on guys. The writing is on the wall. This team refuses to rise up when needed. It's been repeated over and over this year. This is sickening. It hurts to watch us come so close time after time. We start to look like we're turning the corner and BAM! I hate this s***!
  23. If he makes the Sox, it will be a strict platoon man- just like Moreland (vs RHPs) and Pearce (vs LHPs) were meant to be. Sure, it never ends up perfectly a straight platoon, but at least this guy hits the longer end of the platoon (vs the more plentiful RHPs). Besides, .360 is a damn good overall OBP. Let's look at his competition: Chavis: .322 in MLB and .319 in AAA/ .337 in AA (.325 all minor league levels) Plus, he K's almost as much as Ockimey. Chavis 449 K's in 1757 PAs on the farm (25.5%) Ockimey 675 in 2353 PAs on the farm (28.6%) So, the kid K's 3% more times than Chavis, but he gets on base 4% more often. K's suck, but they ain't DPs and the whole moving the runners ahead is exaggerated. Sam Travis has a career .301 OBP in MLB. He's at .339 in AAA and .352 in all minors, but he barely hits for power (.392 SLG in AAA/.419 SLG in minors). Ockimey's overall numbers blow Travis away. Vs. RHPs, he just about doubles Travis's OPS. Okay, Travis barely K's (357 in 2046 PAs or 17.4%) For reference sake, Moreland has a career .319 OBP overall. He's just .324 vs RHPs, for God's sake, and we paid him $6M x 2 years!!! Pearce has a career .332 OBP, and he got paid $6M this year! How is .360 a bad thing? I'm not suggesting Ockimey will have a .360 OBP in MLB, but why not just see what he can do. If he can do what he's done in the minors, and we can limit his ABs vs LHPs as much as possible, he's worth more than Chavis, Travis, Moreland and Pearce. Again, I'm not suggesting he will be better. I would not bet he will be, but give the kid a shot in next year's rebuild season or this September.
