  1. I'm all for JBJ playing, even against lefties, especially over Gorkys or whoever else we have, but Moreland is not coming back here next year, so I'm fine with seeing what Travis has vs LHPs.
  2. The max line for the draft pick penalty is $40M over. So, we'd have $29M with JBJ and $39M without. That's enough money to try and win one more year, but unless all that money is spent on 1 year deals (unlikely, if we want good player), we'd be digging a deeper hole for 2021 and beyond.
  3. How is Barnes "inconsistent?" He improved every year since 2015 until now. ERA+: 80> 11> 118> 122 WHIP: 1.65>1.40>1.22> 1.26 K/9: 8.2> 9.6> 10.7> 14.0 > 15.6 I'd keep all of Chavis, Dalbec, Ockimey, Chatham, Marco and Lin in hopes that 2 can stick around beyond the reset year.
  4. Maybe because Taylor matched up better with the top 3 batters in the line-up.
  5. Yes. The pen was the one who gave us the lead in the 8th, so there's that, too. So, did the pen win today's game, or do you give it to Price?
  6. I'd wait on trading Barnes, in hopes his stock rises. I hate trading guys after their worst seasons.
  7. I'd be fine with trading a big salary to get under the line, but I still would think paying JBJ $10-11M for 1 year of team control would not make sense- assuming a reset and shot at 2021 competitiveness.
  8. The pen pitched the whole game, so it's hard to call it a pen blown game.
  9. Projected 2020 Red Sox Luxury Tax Budget $Millions 31 Price 27 Sale 22 JD 20 Bogey 17 Eovaldi 14 Pedey 4 Vaz Sub TOTAL $135M 7 Players Arbitration Estimates: 28 Betts (3rd arb of 3) 10 JBJ (4 of 4) 9 ERod (3 of 4) 4 Beni (1 of 3) 3 Workman (3 of 3) 3 Barnes (2 of 3) 2 Hembree (2 of 3) 1 Marco (1 of 3) 1 Wright (3 of 3) (Leon: non tenders & maybe re-signed for $1M) Sub TOTAL $61M 10 Players 8 (Likely) Pre-arb on ML Roster Devers Chavis Taylor Walden Travis Johnson Velazquez DHernandez Sub TOTAL $4M 8 Players Other 15 (Likely) Plyaers on the 40 Man Roster Dalbec, Chatham, Lin, Brewer, Weber, Reyes, Shawaryn, Poyner Brasier, Kelley, Lakins, Poyner, Ockimey, Feltman, Houck Sub TOTAL: $2M 15 Players $15M Player Benefits $217 Million Total That's about $9M over the first Luxury Tax line. If we trade or non tender JBJ, we will be slightly under the tax line with no money to spend on any free agents, if we want to reset.
  10. His silliness is getting out of hand.
  11. Yup. Those two sweeps when we needed wins more than ever told the whole story.
  12. But, is the Price right?
  13. It was shocking he didn't at least load up on Colten Brewer types in hopes that 2 or 3 worked out. It was hard to foresee Barnes reversing his streak of continuous improvement seasons. Workman made up for it, but all others sucked, except for Walden.
  14. So, nothing like what we have to do.
  15. Burnt Brasier Burger Buns.
  16. If it were up to me, and the reset happens this winter. The honeymoon would be over, and DD would be replaced.
  17. True, but had we signed Ottavino over Pearce, we'd have had no extra money at the deadline.
  18. Had we signed Morton & Ottavino and not Eovaldi & Pearce, we'd probably be in the WC driver's seat, but I don't remember many people wanting Morton. I do remember many of us talking about Ottavino. Where would we be now had we signed Ottavino, instead of Pearce?
  19. I totally agree, but we ended up playing our third string 1Bman much of the year. Innings at 1B this year: 490 Moreland 401 Chavis 138 Travis 130 Pearce 54 Vaz 18 Holt 1 Swihart Moreland has played 39% of the innings at 1B, this year. That being said, it's highly doubtful that had Moreland played 70% of the innings and Pearce 30% we'd be any better off. Spending more on the pen made more sense then and now.
  20. Moon has suggested that we cut ties with those who wouldn't be a help to us in 2021 and later. It makes some sense although I would like us to keep enough pieces to keep the team at least competitive enough to keep people in the seats... I'd like to stay competitive throughout the retooling, and I'm not for just dumping everybody not under team control for 2+ year, if we get nothing for them, but if staying mediocre for two years involves keeping a couple vets that could have netted us something useful for 2021 and beyond, I don't see the point. This is assuming we reset this winter. Maybe, Henry and DD go all out for one more year, then they reset. I realize this season seemed to be the perfect storm of ineptness, but I don't see us bouncing back without some major (and costly) additions. Doing that would like further deepen and lengthen the rebuilding stretch afterwards. If Henry is fine with spending more and more each year, then fine, but I don't see that happening.
  21. That would only get us by one team. We need to pass two. Has it ever been done when down this much from 2 teams with so few games to go?
  22. Burnt toast is all I can think of.
