  1. We missed him a lot, when he was here and on the DL or being platooned.
  2. Looks about right. I would not pay that much. To me, maybe $16M/2 is too much.
  3. If he opts out, can we offer a QO?
  4. Ockimey's numbers vs RHPs: OPS vs RHPs 2019 .898 AAA(21 HRs in 287 ABs but also 106 Ks) 2018 .783 AAA (5 Hrs & 28 Ks in 70 ABs) .968 AA (13 Hrs & 72 Ks in 205 ABs) His BA might be low, but his OBP vs RHPs has been good to great. .409 in 2017 A+, .390 in 2017 AA, .417 in 2018 AA, .313 in AAA 2018 and .379 this year in AAA.
  5. That's how I see it. The 1B/DH types are going very cheap, these days, and since we'll need both, if JD bolts, I can see that being the place we reduce salary. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing we stay under but near the luxury tax limit.
  6. I can certainly see that point of view, but does anyone think for one moment, had we not signed Sale, and he'd gone on to win the Cy Young last year then bolted for free agency, nobody here would be crying about us not signing him? Take away the injury, and his numbers dictated a much higher salary (and more years), so we did get him on a reduced salary. Let's give the deal time. I remember people screaming about the Porcello extension, then apologizing, then screaming again, then...
  7. I guess what he's saying is that even if Bush is the best coach in the world, and who of us know who really is, we should not ever hire him, because he was within the broken system.
  8. I doubt Porcello takes $6M, and if he did, it would be $6M x 4-5 years. My guess is he gets $27-36M for 3 years or $32-44M for 4 years.
  9. It looks better without the 2019 Porcello, Thornburg, Wright, Cashner & Chacin in there.
  10. Well, we "got" 4 rings. Plus, we got new blood in Bloom. I'm not sure blowing everything up was needed.
  11. Sounds like the Yanks should sign this guy.
  12. Yes, and it's not like they've been a failure for the last 2 decades.
  13. So, here is a look at the pitchers still under team control as of right now: SP'ers Sale, ERod, Price, Eovaldi Hart, Kent, Reyes, Mata, Crawford TWard, J Groome, J Diaz, A Scherff,Y Padron-Artiles SP/RP'ers Johnson, Velazquez, Weber, Shawaryn Houck, Bello RP'ers Workman, Barnes, DHern, Taylor, Walden, Osich Brasier, Hembree, Brewer, Lakins, Poyner, Kelly Gorst, Feltman, Bazardo, Y Abar
  14. There may certainly be better choices than Bush, but do any of us really know for sure that somebody else is better?
  15. We can't blame the whole cruddy history of Sox pitcher development on Bush. Just because he was in the system doesn't mean he was the negative influence on it. I'm not saying you are wrong. Getting a fresh perspective makes some sense, but change just for the sake of change doesn't always work out. Sometimes rewarding loyalty and longevity has benefits.
  16. I was thinking more about all the TJ surgeries and injuries and guys like Casey Kelly, Ranaudo, Owens, Kopech, Espinoza and now Groome.
  17. Excellent point, but I think successful teams need a good combination of both. I'm hopeful someone in the organization will focus on mechanics and be able to spot when a pitcher is moving away from his normal or most effective mechanics.
  18. I thought I heard them say, last night, none had 6, but you are right.
  19. I think no series ever had 5 road wins in the first 5 games. No major sport had 6, until the 7 this year.
  20. Yup, and 26 man rosters until SEPT when everyone has to have 28- no more or less.
  21. 7 road wins is pretty amazing. I guess home field advantage is just a crap shoot.

  23. Even if the Yanks paid the $5M, it wouldn't count against the 2020 luxury tax budget. Buy-out money is added to the previous guaranteed years.
  24. They also saved $1M when the Sox claimed Osich.
  25. Red Sox Claim Josh Osich By Mark Polishuk | October 31, 2019 at 1:04pm CDT The Red Sox have claimed left-hander Josh Osich off waivers from the White Sox, as per a team announcement. Originally claimed off waivers from the Orioles last March, Osich posted a 4.66 ERA, 4.07 K/9 rate, and 8.1 K/9 over 67 2/3 relief innings for the White Sox last season. Osich’s effectiveness was limited to same-sided batters, as he held left-handed hitters to only a .551 OPS (115 plate appearances) while right-handed hitters mashed him to the tune of a .903 OPS (157 PA). These numbers largely match Osich’s rather lopsided splits for his career, making him one of many specialist relievers (particularly lefties) whose careers could be altered by the three-batter minimum rule coming into effect in 2020. From Boston team in need of bullpen reinforcements, however, clearly the team sees value in exploring Osich’s potential. The 31-year-old does possess a mid-90’s fastball, and he has a solid 48.5% grounder rate over his 188 career MLB innings. The waiver claim will shave a little bit of money off Chicago’s book, as Osich was projected to earn $1MM in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The Bloom era has begun.
