  1. He did win Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Year, but even soxprospects has him as average... Field: Hands work well and footwork is usually reliable. A little stiff and has some trouble getting down on ground balls when charging the ball. Doesn't have great range, but makes up for that somewhat with his length, allowing him to cover more ground than his feet would normally allow. Has made great strides since he joined the Red Sox at third base. Regressed somewhat at third base in 2019 and projects as an average defender there. Also has seen significant time at first base at higher levels, in large part due to presence of Rafael Devers at third base in Boston. Arm: Plus arm strength. Touched the mid-90s off the mound in college. Plenty of arm for third base, able to make all the throws including balls fielded on the foul line. Has regressed slightly but still fine for third base.
  2. Agreed. He also seems to have some issues with foot work, which could hurt at 1B.
  3. Ahh... My eyes are failing me. I thought you were saying DD wanted to stay one more year, too. Yes, DD wanted Ben to stay. Food for thought for all the DD lovers that hate Ben.
  4. Nice list. Some others Bloom has added that might have an impact: Perez (only has one more year of control- so, not so "lasting", unless we re-sign him. Not currently on 40 man roster but could be "lasting": Downs Potts Seabold Wong Rosario Wallace Drafted: Yorke Jordan Wu-Yelland Drohan
  5. He doesn't sell.He buys.
  6. What's interesting about our "kids" is that many of our youngest players on this year's roster are not the prospects we just brought up: Age Player OPS 21 Arauz .574 23 Devers .842 24 Grullon .833 (4 PA) 24 Verdugo .891 24 M Chavis .657 25 C Arroyo .896 25 Y Munoz .844 25 B Dalbec .1.008 25 Benintendi .442 Age Pitcher ERA 23 D Hern 2.84 24 Houck 0.00 26 M Hall 18.69 27 R Leyer 21.21 27 Pivetta 1.80 27 K Hart 15.55 27 Springs 7.13
  7. He might have, but not me.
  8. Usually, I'd worry about messing with Devers by moving him, but the kid seems to not be fazed by anything. Apparently Dalbec is already a plus defender at 3B, so the switch makes sense, but I'd hold off until we're sure Dalbec's offense is for real. Let's see how he adjusts to pitchers adjusting to him. It might not hurt to give Devers some reps at 1B this winter and next spring, but I also wouldn't want to mess with his growth at 3B. He's shown extended periods of plus defense there. He's still young enough to smooth over the bumps. It's a tough choice,
  9. It doesn't have to be a straight platoon, and Dalbec can get some time at 3B, or Ockimey at DH. Ockimey would be more like the back-up 1Bman who only plays vs RHPs.
  10. I'd like to have given Ben one more year.
  11. They'll only be one Swihart.
  12. I don't expect record HR numbers, but to me, the K's are totally acceptable as long as he keeps his OBP at a respectable number. Dalbec's OBP: .352 MLB (71 PAs) .362 minors Notable comps: Chavis .307/.325 Middy .272/.325 Mark Reynolds .328/.358 I'll take 350Ks, if he hits 30 HRs and has a .333 OBP. He may end up with 35-40 HR potential and an OBP over .345.
  13. I've been pushing Ockimey as a platoon for over a year... at least to give him a shot.
  14. I think counting Sale, ERod and Eovaldi as 1.5 SP'ers in 2021 is reasonable. Add 1 for Perez and we're at 2.5 out of 5. Maybe count Pivetta and Houck as 1 or 1.5 might be overly optimistic. I'd be happy,if we added two solid and durable SP'ers, but we surely need one.
  15. I just said what I think he's worth. His risk of never playing again lowers his value. Price lost millions, this year because of COVID by choice-unlike ERod, but ERod got $8.3M for not pitching at all, this year..
  16. Here are some interesting numbers: Adjusted to 162 games: OPS/ BA HR RBI 1.008/ .281 63 117 Dalbec .896 / .286 48 129 Arroyo .891 / .330 19 46 Vergudo .844 / .333 13 54 Munoz .842 / .276 34 112 Devers .833 / .286 31 82 Bogaerts .777 / .279 16 61 JBJ .767 / .273 21 68 Vaz .684 / .216 19 79 JD
  17. I'd say $5-6.5M, but through the arb, he'll make about $8M. (IMO)
  18. I doubt players hold significant and long-lasting grudges over arbitration rulings against them. Usually, the differences are not that stark, and $8.3M for an oft-injured pitcher is pretty damn good.
  19. There's always a "but." Theo had one. Ben had a few. Tito had one. DD deserves one, too. "Buts" don't negate the good things, but they also should not be buried or made unspeakable just because the great moments were so wonderful. I'm still thrilled and grateful for what DD did, but that doesn't mean I have to sweep the consequences under a rug.
  20. Well, if people are going to make the point that some of the highly valued prospects we traded were flops, then we should also count some of the lower valued prospects that moved up in value, too. I remember there was talk about Allen during the trade and how many felt he has a lot of promise, and how maybe the deal might have been done without him.
  21. Is that why you hold all of this recent misery over Bloom?
  22. Agreed, and certainly not better enough to compete, but our farm would be rated slightly better, and our longer term outlook and 40 man roster depth would be improved, especially looking forward, which is all hypothetical, of course.
  23. The team would be better now with Allen over Kickham and Springs. Better now and maybe even better going forward. 2020 ERA 4.70 Allen 7.13 Springs 8.49 Kickham 18.69 Hall 6.55 Covey 6.27 Brice
  24. No doubt, the DD trades made us very good to great for 3 years. We won a ring and had exciting teams to watch. That being said, would today's and tomorrows teams be better, if we added these players to our roster and farm? Moncada Buttrey Kopech Dubon Margot Allen Beeks Noe Ramirez Bautista Basabe Espinoza Nogosek Santos and others
