    We rarely hear anyone talk about Jimenez. Why do you think that is so?

    So who was the franchise player? Pedey or Papi? One could even argue VTek or Pedro. I guess I don't see it as a "wide margin," but I can see how many would see it that way. He plays everyday, unlike Sale- even when not injured. I'll ask you this, is it possible Devers wins the title in the next year or two, assuming both are still here in 2022 and/or beyond?

    I never got how one session like this can really change someone's mind all that much. You look at the speed of his fastball, but you know he may be throwing extra hard. Can showing control or lack of it in one session really mean all that much?

    I've never been high on Wilson. I think he may be DFA'd or traded once we add an OF'er or two. Rosario is 21 and is projected to be in AA, this year. I agree it may be a stretch to think he'll be ML ready that quickly, but he's apparently a great defender, so maybe that makes him valuable enough to be ML ready. Our OF depth is so weak, and if we end up getting rid of Wilson, who is clearly more "ML ready," but maybe not as skilled as Rosario, we could possible see Rosario as a late inning defensive replacement late in 2021.

    If Sale wasn't hurt, I'd say he was, but it's close. Some might say JD is the "leader," but I wouldn't say "franchise" for him. Devers is just coming into his own, and I could see him becoming the franchise player as soon as this year. I have no issue calling Bogey the franchise player, but I don't think he is clearly "the man," and he wasn't that guy, when we had Betts. If this was football, and I had to slap a franchise tag on a player, it would be Devers, but that's not really a good way to look at it.

    We could see two Wongs (Connor & Kolten), at some point, so we'd definitely need a Wright.

    Agreed, but Pablito fell woefully short of even his regular season numbers with SF.

    Agreed, but he ain't the current "franchise player."

    I think they meant they may be ML ready at some point, this year, not necessarily being called up and seeing ML action, but I agree. If we only add one more OF'er Rosario or Wilson may earn a shot at some point.

    I'm not so sure DJ will be all that "great" going forward. We shouldn't spend large and long just because we can or because we need to improve, badly. This year's best FAs just don't seem like the types of players worthy of large and long deals. Also, there are other ways to spend. We can probably get some very good players or prospects by taking on someone's bad contract player. That might be better than spending big on free agents far from worth what they will be getting. Bauer does not have the pedigree Price had when we signed him, and yet people want us to go large and long on him? Springer does not look as good as Carl Crawford did, either. DJ? I think not. We can get good quality free agents without going top tier. Trade for some top quality (and some salary to minimize the return) and grow the team in a steady manner. We are not a Chris Sale away from a ring. Let's not act like we are and be foolish by going all in for 2021.

    I kinda thought the $30M/3 was low for a top closer, but yes, it looks like the best FAs are not signing at discount rates. Even the tier 2 FAs seem to be doing well, so far. What might happen when all the "spenders" have signed all they are going to sign? Will we see a big drop off in AVV and years?

    Even worse, the contract comp: Per year... Scherzer ($30M)+ Cruz ($14.5M)= $44.5M HRam ($22M) + Pablo ($19M)= $41MM Only $3.5M per year more! Now, the total contracts: Scherzer (7 yrs) + Cruz (4 yrs)= $268M Pablo (5 yrs) + HRam (4 yrs)= $183M Okay, there's a big difference, here, but Scherzer has stayed strong through the first 6 yrs. Pablo & HRam gave us 1.5 years of decent play,combined.

    It seems like none of the higher level players saw their values adjusted.

    Jon Gray is a huge question mark, too. I'd rather trade for Kiermaier and Fairbanks, and my Chavis-Chatham offer, although counted as a massive overpay, was tongue and cheek. I'd give Duran or Beni & Groome.

    I hope they set a minimum bar and penalize or withhold money from teams that fail to spend a certain amount. I'm fine with the Lux Tax at about where it is, now.

    We really don't lose much after 2021: Pedey & Barnes. Rising Arb costs might eat all those savings up.

    I'm thinking going forward. By your criteria, Pedey is the man.

    If we don't go over, the clock does not start, again, and if no deal are longer than 3 years, it can't get too bad. (many are 1 to 2 years.)
