  1. We'll never get far enough to have to trade or DFA my list of 4. My point was our roster is weak beyond the bottom 7. It goes 8-11 deep and maybe even farther.
  2. If we added 8 players and DFA'd the 7 on your list plus one from mine, I wouldn't be upset. We may end up sending Whitlock back, despite having tons of roster space. Valdez could be a flash in the pan. I'm not confident he's anything better than a replacement level player. Payamps, to be honest, I'm not even sure why we added tis guy. Arauz is young and looks good on D. He's borderline, but if we sign a 2Bman, one of Chavis, Arroyo or Arauz should go, one way or another. The only reason the 4 guys on my list aren't on your list is because we'll never need to replace 8-11 players on the 40 man roster. We may sign 2-4 players and trade for 2-3 players (without giving up a 40 man player) and still never get to my list.
  3. Many of us knew we were resetting, last winter. We never expected anything major all winter long.
  4. Couldn't the same thing be accomplished by limiting his pitch count every 5th day? Pitchers are used to a set routine. I wouldn't mess with it.
  5. Now= Today to mid February?
  6. They should send Dalbec to AAA, so we can rise in the farm rankings. Fans would be thrilled! (Sarcasm alert)
  7. We've all heard this for many years, and it is not without merit. Many predicted Sale would go down with a serious injury long before he did. Maybe he's a freak of nature. Maybe not. Maybe he changes his mechanics and reinvents himself as a pitcher not a thrower. I'm trying to stay positive, but I certainly am very concerned about his future.
  8. I would think they could, but it might mess up the timing or mindset. I'd prefer to go with "openers" and limit the IP of our fragile starters- basically all of 'em but Perez.
  9. Besides these 7: Brewer Brice Mazza Springs Walden Pedroia Wilson (Not for DFA'ing necessarily, but no loss if we traded them for a PTBNL): Arauz Valdez Payamps Whitlock (send back as rule 5) I wouldn't mind trading these guys for prospects: Brasier (assuming we add 1-2 RP'ers) Beni (assuming we add 1-2 OF'ers) Chavis or Arroyo (assuming we add a 2Bman) Deadline? Barnes Eovaldi JD
  10. So, feel free to add to anyone significant I'm missing... Tampa: Lost: N Lowe, Snell & Morton Gained: Luis Patino, M Wacha, F Mejia NYY: Lost:Tanaka, Paxton, Happ Gained: Kluber TOR: Lost: Gained: Chatwood (Yates? Springer?) BAL: Lost: Gained: BOS: Lost: JBJ Gained: Renfroe, Andriese, Whitlock
  11. Agreed. #1 is not really true, if number 2 was not true. If there was a Manny available, now would be the time.
  12. I think next winter, they will make to choice to go above the value they assign a great player, just to make sure we get him. Now is not the time, for 2 reasons: 1) We are not one great player away from contending for a ring. 2) Bauer, Springer and Realmutto are not the types of players you go large and long on.
  13. Any list like this might be more informative, if they provided all the players lost- like JBJ, Tanaka, Paxton, Happ...
  14. That shows just how crappy the bottom of our 40 man roster is. I could add 4-6 more names of players I would not fret over losing for nothing in return.
  15. One of the biggest "hometown discounts" I remember was Joe Mauer with MN. I thought he left a lot of money on the table.
  16. Plus, the few that signed for the "winner" or "home town team" they want to play with, usually did NOT leave a heap of money on the table. either.
  17. True, but they dumped CC and cleared up a lot of budget space, making it one of the best Sox trades, evah! Strange how one of our best trades ever, brought back just about nothing. (Note: we did trade de la Rosa & Webster for Wade Miley.)
  18. What's the amount of games or PAs needed to drop off the list? Will he pass that amount by the mid season ranking time?
  19. Exactly, and while we had lost Betts before 2020, we had lost AGon and Beckett before 2013, too.
  20. I'm not claiming he will be great and never get hurt again. I'm just saying, he has already shown he can pitch well without his highest velocity. (Plus, I'm not so sure he can't regain most of his velocity.)
  21. Money has to be the number one factor- by far. If two offers are very close, then other factors play a role. There are exceptions to this, of course, but it's about the money.
  22. Had the Sox used up most of their winter spending budget on DJ, it would not have been "genius." We need pitching, pitching, pitching. Your needs are different. Your rotation is golden & rock solid.
  23. Sale has already shown he can pitch very well without top velocity.
