    I only bring it up because jacko is always predicting missed time due to injury for Eovaldi and more recently ERod who has started 27 or more games for 5 years, until Covid- not an injury forced a missed season.

    Giving all of Brice’s IP to the other 5 sucky RPers plus Whitlock would not have even come close to overworking any of them. Brice has less than 12 IP. That’s two for each of the 6 not named Barnes or Ottavino. Name one of those six that you think adding 2 IP would have fatigued him.

    Why are you blaming their suckiness on fatigue? Our starters are 5th in IP and we’ve had 9 RPers all season. The only guy on pace for too many innings is Barnes, not one of the sucky six. Show me one example where we brought in a sucky six pitcher on too short rest. Everyone of the sucky six are on pace for 60 IP or less, except Andriese, who is a long man, and he’s headed for 65, which is low for a long man. There is some advantage to allowing Cora one more choice in trying to determine who matches up best with the next batter(s), but no matter who he chooses, when they end up sucking, he gets blamed for bringing in someone who has sucked recently, despite the fact that all six have sucked recently.

    I think the point was about JBJ having worse than horrific offensive numbers for a very long time at the start of his ML career. Many fans gave up on him, despite the great D. Many even gave up on him later in his career during one of his very long slumps. We know Cordero is no GG, so I get how the comp is not a good one, but I guess the point was about just offensive bad slumps only.

    They have some big named hitters, and we’ve handled them pretty well. One more game to go, so the final grade is not in.

    As you can probably tell by now, the list of six all seem about the same to me, except Brice. DHern has a ton of potential but that 8.5 BB/9 rate is horrific. They all have some major flaw or are on a bad streak. I have faith a couple or three might end up giving us plus value, but at this moment bringing in any of these 6 is a coin toss with a two-headed quarter.

    Franchy’s OPS went up 57 points, today. Dalbec & Bogey’s went up over 30. Dalbec passed Renfroe, today. Bogey passed JD.

    So, unless someone has done it before; it can’t be done? It’s not like Pivetta is 35. How about what Sale, ERod, Richards and Eovaldi have “done before? For them, you use a whole new set of measuring sticks. Look, I’m not projecting Pivetta to place 10th in Cy Young, this year, but you act like he,s doomed to repeat his career norm every season and nobody can ever improve greatly in a season.

    Pitchers who just pitch one inning can go again in 2 days not 3, and many can pitch one inning back-to-back several times in a season. With 9 RPers wel’ll never run out of fresh sucky arms.

    You keep acting like someone is defending Cordero being on the roster. We’ve already seen a plus from Chavis, and adding Santana makes sense. Defending Brice is not helping your position. Spreading his IP around to the other sucky 5 could do no harm.

    Whitlock is not on my s***** Sox RPer list, but if you went by some posters methodology of you,re only as good as your last 1-4 games, he,d be bashed, too. I trust Barnes- the guy nobody thought could ever be a closer. I trust Ottavino enough. I trust Whitlock enough, but his history is very short, and he’s being stretched out to be a starter or long man- not an 8th inning solid set up man. The fact is, anyone Cora brings in for the 6th or 7th inning will lead to someone saying, “Why did he bring in a guy who has sucked.” 6 of the 9 have all sucked, and even Whitlock’s numbers in May are not great. That’s my only point, besides not needing 6 s***** RPers on the 26 when 5 can give us the same.

    I’ve not given up on Cordero, but I have for now. I’m certain he will be demoted when Kike or Arroyo come off the IL, and if he does well at AAA, we may see him again.

    I felt the same way. Taylor had a good season a couple years back, and might have just needed time to regain his old form, but I still have my doubts about using him in high leverage situations going forward. We don’t have many in -system choices that jump out at us to be called up, so it looks like we may be stuck with what we have until Brasier, Houck, Seabold and Sale return or the deadline. I actually like the chances that 1 or 2 of the following pitchers will grow into a solid set up man: Sawamura Andriese Hernandez Valdez Bazardo Brasier Taylor I still have no faith in Brice.

    I’d have started Chavis at 2B and Marwin in LF. Cordero needs to benched until someone has enough play in AAA to be ready for a call up. Santana seems like the choice, but he may not be ready by the time kike and arroyo come off the IL. The Sox lose Santana, soon, if they don’t call him up.

    The issue is that many people think that what you have done in the last few short games is somehow predictive of what is to be expected. Some even look back to just your last one game sample size to determine that players next game usage.
