  1. Their hitting was not solid. Not even close. They ran the bases well and had timely hitting, but their hitting was average, at best.
  2. Manny worked harder at hitting than anyone I saw. He was usually the first to show up at the park and often the last to leave. This goes totally against what many felt was his "I could care less" or "lazy attitude." He even went into the clubhouse or tunnels and took swings and watched films. His calm nature at the plate was a big reason he was so successful. He rarely let 2-3 Ks affect his outlook on his next AB. He rarely argued with the umps or showed disgust after striking out. I loved his offensive approach. I won't talk about his D. We all know enough about that. (I loved when he cut of noodle-arm Damon's throw in CF. Shows you how weak Damon's arm was.)
  3. His hits often "knocked it out of the park!" (Okay, I'm stretching it.)
  4. "Defense" and pitching.
  5. Another great one passes away. He was 81.
  6. Imagine our board's reaction to a Sox team that had these seasonal OPS by its top 9 hitters by most PAs: .916 .813 .708 .777 .683 .679 .667 .741 .645 (.475 catcher with most PAs) How many times have we heard, "You can't win with 2 black holes in the line-up?" Tampa Bay had 5-6!
  7. Beni's defense reminds me of Mike Greewell- he from the school of "I'll pick the ball up when it stops rolling." Maybe, he's a little better.
  8. One could expect Betts would decline after such a great 2018 season, but he was still in the meat of his prime. Did anyone expect a decline from 10.4 fWAR to 6.6? JD's was more expected, but again, by this much? 5.9 to 3.2? Beni was not expected to decline as he approached prime. He dropped from 4.4 to 2.0. Sure, Bogey and Devers did better, but here are some more drops- expected or not: Sale 6.2>3.6 (in almost as many IP) Porcello 2.4> 1.8 (kind of expected) Eovaldi 1.5 (in a partial season) > -0.3 Pearce 1.2 (just with the Sox) to falling off a cliff
  9. It's not his speed, or lack of it, that bothers me. It was all the bonehead mistakes.
  10. In some ways, 2019 was worse- due to higher expectations and so many injuries and unexpected declines..
  11. A look at our prospect rankings on soxprospects.com. With so many additions, it's not surprising that many prospects fell in the rankings as players were slotted above them, but only 1 Sox prospect actually moved up in the rankings: Jarren Duran from #7 to #4 in the September Rankings: https://www.soxprospects.com/index.html Here is where our newbies were slotted (none in the top 10): 11. Jeisson Rosario (for Moreland) 12. Connor Seabold (w. Pivetta for Workman/Hembree) 15. Hudson Potts (for Moreland) 20. Jacob Wallace (for Pillar) 30. Deivy Grullon (waivers from PHI) Draftee placements: 13. Nick Yorke 16. Blaze Jordon 37. Shane Drohan Biggest drops in the September rankings (some due to additions not by poor play): -7 Chatham -5 Bello, Liu, Rodriguez, Wilson, Flores, Feltman, Aybar and many more -4 Zeferjahn, Bonaci, Decker, Cannon -3 Jordan
  12. You're on a roll. I've agreed with everything you've said, today. (Maybe I should get a COVID test... LOL! )
  13. I'd say 67% BOS, but maybe that's just my wishful thinking.
  14. I don't think we can know what Bloom will do based on his time at TB, where his budget was greatly restricted. I think he will keep many of our fan favorite players, that he could not have done with the Rays. Winning is fun to watch. To me, I'd be very happy watching the current Rays roster with Sox jerseys on, even if they were not in the WS.
  15. Top Sox by WAR 2019-2020 combined: (Only the pluses) 8.7 Bogey 6.6 Betts 6.5 Devers 4.9 Vaz 3.7 ERod 3.6 Sale 2.8 JBJ 2.3 Price 2.2 Workman 2.2 JD M 1.8 Moreland 1.8 Porcello 1.6 Verdugo 1.5 Beni 1.3 Holt 1.2 Barnes 0.8 Brasier 0.7 Taylor 0.7 DHern 0.7 Pillar 0.6 Dalbec 0.6 Eovaldi 0.4 Houck 0.4 Walden 0.3 Mazza 0.3 Plawecki o.3 lakins 0.2 Munoz 0.2 Velazquez, Weber, Pivetta, Stock 0.1 Arroyo, Hembree, Covey, Valdez
  16. I'd say the jury is still out on Beni. He certainly has promise on offense and has proven he can hit. His defense is decent. His base running instincts are horrific. I'm hoping for a rebound and think the odds are good he does. Please don't move him to CF.
  17. I get it. I'm not all torn up about the loss. We gained Verdugo and a couple nice prospects and now have much more spending space over the next 12 years.
  18. He did say "may not..."
  19. What's the name of the test that determines your muscle fat ratio? Is that the one where you are submerged under water or something like that? I'm sure Judge would come out okay on that one, whereas Pabloaf would be off the chart.
  20. Me, too. Think of what Bloom can get by splitting $365M up 10-30 times. I still think it's a crying shame a big spending team like the Sox decided not to keep the best player they've had since maybe Teddy or the Babe.
  21. We'll see. If contract costs drop in the next few years, you'll be right, but many feel he took a COVID discount as it is.
  22. For sure! It's the only reason I wouldn't mind seeing them win, but I'm pulling for the Rays.
  23. Yes. I never said it would not be a big risk. I think he's worth it, but I can understand those who feel otherwise.
