  1. The Ray appear to really need a catcher. Maybe a Vazquez for Kiermaier and a SP'er (or two) could be in the works. MLBTR... The Rays’ primary focus early in the virtual Winter Meetings is to upgrade their catching corps, writes Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. The team has only one catcher on its 40-man roster at the moment — prospect Ronaldo Hernandez, who is not yet MLB-ready — and will need to add multiple options, be it via free agency or trade.
  2. Seems like all our pen arms have options, except Brice. I can't see how he sticks around, but I said that 4 DFA's ago.
  3. He put up those numbers in a time when offense wasn't always all that great, including 1968, when he had an .872 OPS. He led the league in OPS 4 times and OPS+ 3 times. H had an OPS+ over 160, seven times! HOF'er.
  4. I think we can do both. The only true "keepers" in our pen, right now, are Barnes, Brasier and D Hern. Taylor is iffy, but I'd like to keep him. That leaves room for 1-2 rule 5 pitchers (1 rule 5 could be a position player) and 2-3 added pen arms.
  5. Being near the top of the Rule 5 draft makes picking someone more likely. The 26 man roster helps, too. Since I'm looking more at 2022 and beyond, I like the idea of drafting 1-2 players.
  6. GMs have shown they are willing to overpay for those one year deals.
  7. I think we'll draft 1 rule 5 guy and use the other open slot for the first FA signing. Maybe, they want 2 slots open in case two valued players are available in the rule 5 draft.
  8. If JD is still down in 2021, it will hurt a lot, especially the budget space he takes up, but our offense can still be very good.
  9. Maybe we trade for RP'ers and sign SP'ers. Many options.
  10. I remember hearing on the radio, here in Houston, that the Astros were in on Eovaldi "to the end," but they did not want to give the 4th year.
  11. A great one!
  12. How about up in the Rocky Mountain highs?
  13. The Red Sox announced Monday that infielder/outfielder Yairo Munoz has cleared waivers and been assigned outright to Triple-A Pawtucket. Glad we could keep him as minor league depth. Makes me wonder, if a signing is due, soon- maybe a rule 5 pick or two, since we have 2 open roster slots, now.
  14. The Red Sox announced Monday that infielder/outfielder Yairo Munoz has cleared waivers and been assigned outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
  15. soxprospects.com reports: Denyi Reyes, who pitched five shutout innings for Escogido, allowing just two hits. He struck out two batters and now has a WHIP of 0.46 on the year while not allowing a run over three starts. Joel Payamps also did not allow a run, delivering three scoreless frames across two appearances with two hits against two strikeouts. Raynel Espinal appeared in two games, delivering 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed six baserunners on three hits and three walks while striking out one batter for Gigantes. Deivy Grullon did not fare well at the plate, hitting 1 for 11 across three games with four strikeouts.
  16. So, JoJo left his home in Fresno, California Bought some Arizona grass.
  17. If they use expanded squads, then we need to add more depth to our 40 man roster- not that it wasn't already a high priority.
  18. I'm usually over confident each winter/spring. I, too, was not in 2013, and I wasn't for 2020, either. I had thought we should have gone younger with all the deals in 2012 and shot for 2014-2015. I think, with a few additions, we can compete for the playoffs in 2021 and maybe more in 2022.
  19. Ahhh, that was the big unknown, on my part.
  20. Seems like a steal. Maybe something is up with him that we don't know about.
  21. One that cracked me up was the same kid thought Stairway to Heaven said "There's a wino down the road..." Another thought the song "Voices Carry" was saying "Was it scary?"
  22. I would not be surprised, if we sign 2 from this list.
  23. Maybe giving 3 days off a few times maybe once in June, July, August and September would allow for series or games to be made up.
  24. Messed up. We may see a shortened season, too.
  25. That was the first time he ever cam close to 200 IP. His highest before that was 137. He's had knee issues, which can come back easily. Who knows how much his heart issue will affect his 2021 season. I'm thinking we start him out slowly- very slowly.
