  1. I'm no draft expert, but who can we get in the second round?
  2. Marcelo Mayer... Marcelo Mayer drafted No. 4 by Red Sox in MLB Draft WWW.MLB.COM A day after being selected fourth overall in the 2021 MLB Draft by the Red Sox, shortstop Marcelo Mayer felt like he was living a dream. Mayer flew to Denver on Monday to take part in All-Star festivities and was wearing a home Red Sox uniform on the grounds of
  3. There are lots of Sox players I think are over rated.
  4. Mets get Rocker. Why does that not surprise me?
  5. Wow, the consensus first pick drops in our lap. I guess we'll have to wait a while to see him, but this kid looks legit. A left-handed hitting SS. WOW! Defense and Offense.
  6. So, basically Blake Treinen ($17.5/2) or Trevor May ($15.5/2) money? Other comps... Will Smith $13.3 x 3, Pomeranz $8.5 x 4, Will Harris $8M x 3 $9M x 3 Bryan Shaw & Jake McGee, B Morrow $10.5M x 2, T Hunter $9M x 2, Juan Nicasio $8.5M x 2, A Reed $8.4M x 2
  7. I just thought it was funny you said I need to back my opinions up with numbers. It takes time to dig them up. I don't think Barnes should fire his agent, because I'm pretty sure he told him he'll take a discount to stay in Boston. Do you really think Barnes signed for exactly (free agent) market value?
  8. It's a weekly thing, isn't it? It's like here in Texas, we've had a 500 year flood, a 200 year flood and two 100 year floods in the last 3 years. Those terms start to lose meaning.
  9. Thanks Max. I really do like Duran, and I think as much or more than many do. I trust Bloom & Cora- maybe too much. I was a huge Devers fan from when he was in the Gulf Coast League. I rated him higher than soxprospects year after year. When the debate came about calling him up and once he was called up about whether it was too soon or too late or a panic move, I said the same thing: "When Sox management thinks he's ready, then that is when we should trust him to be ready." I'm not sure why anyone thinks they know better. That's not to say mistakes can be made, or that opinions should not be aired, but thinking Duran should be called up in 3 days does NOT mean you like him more than anyone else. If Bloom thinks he's ready in 3 days, I do, too. If he thinks September is best, I do, too.
  10. Is Duffy healthy? How about... Anderson (PIT)? Gibson (TEX)? Berrios (MN)? Boyd (DET)?
  11. We go into the ASB essentially tied for the best AL record with HOU & CWS. TBR is 1.5 back Oak 3.5 and the last WC entry SEA is 3 GB OAK CLE, NYY & TOR 4.5 LAA 6.0 The rest are out. The Yanks are 8 behind the Sox. Let that sink in. What a way to impress Sox fans!
  12. There's also players hitting better not being called up, and saying that is not Duran-bashing.
  13. Why is Downs expendable? He plays SS and may end up at 2B. He's likely ML ready next summer or 2023, which happens to be when Bogey might opt out. Arroyo looks like a keeper, but let's not forget he's about 90 PAs from being 9th on this year's team in PAs (163). Does anyone really think he has locked down the 2B job for the next 3 years of team control? I'd like to think yes, but keeping Downs a bit longer makes sense. Also, what has Yorke done, except to be drafted high?
  14. I like the fact that Gibson has another year of team control, so he's not a "rental," but it might also take more to get him for that reason. Your offer is higher than mine, so that might get it done. Would we try to get them to add Kennedy to a deal? I'm kinda thinking a Duffy, Santana and enough cash to stay under might be our best get.
  15. Why is saying I trust Bloom knows when to call him up being down on Duran? Why is not wanting to bench Kike or Arroyo showing disrespect to Duran? I'd love nothing more than Bloom thinking he's ready, now and calling him up to watch him do very well. I think Duran is our best prospect and Casas is rated twice as highly on BTV. Look, I don't want Kike playing 2B or 1B. He's our best defensive CF'er, and I thought that before today's proof positive. Do you want to bench Verdugo? Platoon Renfroe and Verdugo? Duran can't play 1B or the IF like Santana, Chavis and Marwin can do, so he won't be "replacing" their ABs. Not wanting Duran to play just once a week is no reflection on my placing a value on him. Frankly, I'm getting tired of having to defend myself, when I'm really just backing Bloom & Cora's intelligence and knowledge over my own.
  16. We may need 3 starters.
  17. Yes, and I've stated over and over, I am very naïve in this area. In about 2 hours, we'll know "our guy."
  18. That should be Boone's final straw. I don't need to know any specifics.
  19. The record shows that the vast majority of pitchers do better with our back up catcher (except when it was Swihart). I've provided the data. One can argue nobody could get any better from this staff, this year, and it's a great point. As for his pitch framing, he has consistently scored highly in this area, so ignore ghosts.
  20. Playing the Yanks so much should be a big boost for us.
  21. Not a good way to enter the ASB, but what a great first half to the season! Kudos to this team!
  22. Nothing to complain about with his arm. He's great at throwing and framing pitches. I give him tons of credit in those two areas. He's been a plus hitter for a catcher- not so much this year, but over the last few years, yes. IMO, he is okay at blocking bad pitches, but not great. He sucks with handling the staff, and to me, that is more than half of a catcher's overall value to a team.
  23. Groome, Ward & Chavis?
