  1. I would think, if there will be an auto reset after 2026, it would incentivize going over in '26.
  2. I might give Garcia for Sale- maybe Clarke, but I'd prefer adding a more dependable pitcher. If we got Lodolo or Ryan plus Sale, I'd feel much better.
  3. We need a power upgrade and have 3 obvious positions to choose from: 1B 2B/3B (Mayer at the other) DH If we could find a taker for Masa at a savings of $5-6M x 2 years, then pay $30+M for Schwarber, the net cost is about $25M. I also see Casas as the heir apparent DH, so I'd prefer a 1Bman, but Schwarber and Casas could share horrible defense stories at 1B, going forward. The gain from Masa to Schwarber or Alonso (Casas to DH over Masa) would be enormous, especially in terms of power.
  4. Is Casas or Alonso better on D at 1B the KS? KS may have played 1B had Harper not needed to be there.
  5. These might be the biggest but maybe not big enugh: FA Bichette 28 Tucker 29 (trade 2 OF'ers? Naylor 29 G Torres 29 T Grisham 29 Bellinger just turned 30 Trade: Paredes 26/27 (talk here in HOU, they are looking to trade him or Walker.)
  6. I'd put a big bat slightly above a #2 SP'er, because we actually need 2 big bats. If we got two pretty good bats, then the #2 might be the top need. 1. Big bopper (1B or 3B/2B- DH is somewhat problematic) 2. #2 SP 3. Good bat (3B/2B or 1B, whichever #1 did not fill) Big gap... 4. Matz type RP 5. Back-up catcher or Refsnyder, if we trade Duran or Abreu for one of the top 3 needs.
  7. I'd give very little, too, if ATL was that dumb. It won't be a little. My guess is it would cost Early or Campbell- maybe Arias and Garcia, if two prospects. Sandlin, Cespedes, Mullins and Bleis, yes. I'd give all 4, but that's not "the future."
  8. Sale is an awesome pitcher, when healthy. Nobody disputes that. This team has had a horrible record with pitchers with injury histories, and we all go nutty whenever the next one fails. I'm kinda surprised some of us want us to keep up that losing tradition. Skubal's one year is one thing, but giving up a lot for an injury prone, aging, short term pitcher, no matter how great just seems like another dice roll.
  9. DD keeps saying Painter won't be traded, but Duran would give his team a huge boost- now! I'm not sure I'd want Painter for the 2026 season, but he could be flipped for Ryan or the like.
  10. The thing is, if JH is focused on line 1 or line 2 of the lux tax, that $5M could make a big difference. Hear me out: let's say we are $45M from the tax line and $65 from line 2. JH tells Brez he can spend $64M. Alonso costs $32M AAV and Schwarber $34M. Ooops, sorry- $2M short. Let's keep Masa and go with Alonso and Suarez/Polanco.
  11. Our window is wide open, but it can also be 4-5 years open. I'm not for narrowing the window to 1-2 years, despite greatly improving the team for the short term. These guys put us through 7 years of hell to slowly build up the roster with young, controlled and relatively cheap players, and I just don't see them throwing that plan into the wind. Skubal is one thing, but the plan should be to go back to the guy who hasn't finished a season since the whole teardown began? No thanks. I'd love Sale on the team, but not at the expense of the future, while also repeating the same lame game of pinning hopes on old or recently injured pitchers. Sale is both!
  12. It's a nice dream, and until JH proves himself, it will remain a dream. The thing is we can do Bregman, Polanco and a pitcher via trade and not go over the tax line. We might be able to do Schwarber, Bregman and a pitcher and stay near the second tax line. JH?????
  13. He's got the best ISO on the roster, so he must already.
  14. Polanco dealt with injuries, too. 2025 was not his best season. More homers in '21. Better OPS is '19 & '21. That may have been long ago, but he had over double the bWAR those seasons and his .789 in '23.
  15. The extension JH allowed for Crochet is not nearly what Skubal will agree to.
  16. Duran for prospects, then prospects for Ryan. Sign Alonso and Polanco (Mayer to 3B) or Suarez (Mayer to 2B.) Bring back Ref & Matz. 1. L Anthony LF 2. S Polanco 2B 3. L Abreu RF/ R Story SS 4. R Alonso 1B 5. R Story SS/Abreu RF 6. L Yoshida/ R Refsnyder/Romy DH 7. L Mayer/ R Romy 2B/3B 8. Narvaez C 9. Rafaela CF SP: Crochet, Ryan, Bello, 2 from: Sandoval, Harrison, Dobbins, Crawford, Tolle, Early, Perales, Fitts RP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Weissert, Matz, Bernardino, Murphy/Criswell/Wink/Moran, Hicks + a converted SP'er or two (Kelly, Sandlin, Mullins)
  17. And, he still missed the end of every season with ATL.
  18. I'm tired of adding players where we rely on "hope they regain form" and "hope they recovered from a recent injury." I'd rather just hope they do as well as they always do.
  19. I think we'd have to give a prospect in the 6-8 range + another in the 8-12 range for near full salary relief and maybe 2 in the 8-15 range for half relief. I keep looking at STL, but not Arenado, anymore. Sonny Gray and Contreras make a lot of money, but if STL is looking to dump salary, why take on Masa's (or Hicks') contract. Maybe we could trade Masa, Casas, Harrison and Garcia plus $10M x 2 years for Gray and Contreras. Probably not.
  20. Yup, and I don't care if he can become a plus defender at 2B over time.
  21. Of course not, but I would give two of the best pitching prospects for Duran (or Ryan) either. (Not two in our system but two of the very best MLB ready in all of the minors.)
  22. Polanco is high on my list, hopefully as the second best batter we add.
  23. Maybe, and he'll be on 1B most of the time.
  24. I understand your points, fully. They make sense and have merit. I just have so much distrust that JH will fork over the money needed to extend Skubal, that I am not willing to risk handing away several 3-5 year players for one, one-year player.
