  1. Good points. I just think this signing is more about '23 & '24 and what we get in '22 is just a bonus.
  2. I wonder, if there is a buy out for year 2 and 3. soxprospects.com lists his salary at $12.5M for 2022 and 2023 with 2024 left blank. If they are accurate, maybe there is a $2.5M buyout after 2022- making it a $12.5M/1 deal, a $25M/2 deal or a $35M/3 deal- team choice. I've also read only $10M is guaranteed.
  3. So, instead of not signing healthy 30+ pitchers to long term deals, we've decided to sign unhealthy 30+ pitchers to short term deals. Lovely! The normal 12-14 month timetable might mean we get him back in July or August, but there will likely be a period for adjusting to the "new arm." I wouldn't count on much of anything from him, even in September.
  4. It has to be much more about '23 & '24.
  5. And the one is already injured.
  6. Well, their total cost was $28M, and I mentioned we'd assume we keep Paxton for $35M/3, so we could have paid more. I'm not saying I am for either choice- just providing a comparison.
  7. This move suggests we are looking more towards 2023 and 2024 than 2022, although Paxton could give us a boost in '22 like Sale did, this year.
  8. The Nats won with Scherzer. We won with price in 2018. The Astros won with Verlander in 2017. The model for winning can take many shapes.
  9. The manager is part of the team, so you are saying, as of now, the Sox are better. I just want to get this on paper.
  10. Ahh. I knew that sounded fishy. So it might end up at $35M/3, assuming e take the options. That makes more sense.
  11. Cobb gets $9M x 2 with SFG and a 3rd year option with a $2M buyout: essentially $20M/2 or $30M/3 (team choice). Assuming we take the Paxton option- making that dal $35M/2, we could have gotten Cobb & Kluber for less money.
  12. I read the second year option (plus maybe bonuses) could bring the cost up to $35M/2- really 1.3 to 1.5 seasons. I hope Bloom knows what he's doing, but I have serious doubts on this one.
  13. I get the Jays and the Rays, but you have continually said the Sox were over-achievers and would come down to earth. Now, you think we are better, on paper, because you lost Kluber and we lost Erod?
  14. So, you have the Sox ahead of you guys, because we signed Wacha?
  15. My guess is Bloom signs someone he thinks is better off the scrap heap.
  16. Cesar Hernandez signs for just $4M with $1M in bonuses. The Angels announced the signing of right-hander Michael Lorenzen to a one-year contract on Tuesday. It’s reportedly a $6.75MM pact.
  17. Beat out by the Rays! At least the Dodgers beat us out of signing the great Heaney, and the Cards beat us to the superb Matz. Man, it's good to at least know we were trying hard for some great arms.
  18. MLBTR reports... Right-hander Ryan Brasier agreed to a $1.4MM salary with the Red Sox for the upcoming season, tweets Robert Murray of FanSided. The 2021 season was a nightmare for Brasier, who suffered a broken finger in Spring Training, strained a calf muscle while rehabbing that injury and then was hospitalized after being struck in the head by a comeback liner while working back from the calf issue. The 34-year-old made it back to the mound in September and pitched to a 1.50 ERA in 12 frames. On Chris Taylor... There’s one team that’s apparently not in the mix [on Taylor], however, as Chris Cotillo of MassLive reports that the Red Sox don’t seem to be heavily involved.
  19. The first time a ND coach left the school to coach somewhere else since 1933!
  20. The new rankings are out, and OK St passed ND to the #5 slot. 1. GA (plays #3 AL) 2. MI (plays #13 IA) 3. AL (plays #1 GA) 4. CIN (plays #21 Hou) 5. OK St (plays #9 Baylor) 6. Notre Dame (no game) Notre Dame needs 2 losses by one of 4 teams (#2 to #5 teams) to make the top 4.
  21. I think you are right, but not for the reason you gave.
  22. The 12 errors is a big part of what made him negative, but he was also negative in range: -3.0 ErrR -0.2 RngR +1.7 ARM -2.1 UZR/150 (career in RF: -0.8)
  23. Could he settle on Story?
  24. Kiermaier is on the block. (BTV has him at -2.8 value.) I'm not for moving Kike to 2B, but it would fill that slot. BTV accepted this trade: Downs (+11.8) for Fairbanks (+10.5) and Kiermaier (-2.8). It also accepted Roario, Potts, Bazado and Ward for the same two players! LOL!
