  1. This has to be all about the prospects not JBJ. I'm getting more and more convinced that our long term goals are the major priority. (It was last year, too, but somehow we made a strong run.)
  2. But can we go to the ALCS in 2022 with no big deals signed? In theory, if Paxton's option is given, we've already spent about as much as last winter. $35M Paxton $7M Wacha $__M R Hill (Plus, we just gave Vaz his $7M option and extended Barnes during the season.) The real test will come, next winter, when JD, Eovaldi, Bogey, Kike, Vaz and Wacha all come off the books (assuming no extensions). Price comes off the books. Devers and Renfroe will be entering their final arb years in 2023, too. Just to stay even, we'll have to spend bigly.
  3. For someone who is a pretty good pitcher, when healthy, the guy was... drafted 3 times signed 14 times traded 2 times purchases 2 times released 2 times granted free agency 12 times I guess for a guy who will turn 42, soon, this might be expected.
  4. He has a lot of question marks or is pushing 40?
  5. I read on MLBTR that this is Hill's 7th contract with the Sox.
  6. Verlander is gone. Greinke is still there. Is Lester still out there?
  7. So, as we stand, now, this is the 26 man roster? SP: Eovaldi, Sale, Pivetta, Wacha, Hill [Paxton (60 day IL)] RP: Houck, Whitlock, Barnes, Brasier, Taylor, DHern, Davis, Sawamura C: Vaz, Plawecki 1B: Dalbec 2B: Arroyo, Arauz 3B: Devers SS: Bogey LF: Verdugo, Duran CF: Kike RF: Renfroe, Rosario/Refsnyder? DH: JD Maybe this will be the most common line-up: 1. Kike 2. Devers 3. Bogey 4. JD 5. Verdugo/Renfroe 6. Renfroe/Verdugo 7. Dalbec 8. Arroyo 9. Vaz
  8. Dylan Bundy to the Twins for $5M/1. Mariners looking at Story.
  9. Then, add Rich Hill's contract and we'll be at the point where, if we are staying under the 2021 tax line, we'll want to save the rest for possible deadline additions. Wacha Paxton Hill I doubt this is what anyone expected.
  10. $71M/3 with an opt out after 2. The Cubs seem like a strange fit.
  11. The line-up is the same as 2021 (pre-Schwarber). Replacing ERod remains the biggest challenge, but staying even with last year is usually not a winning strategy for any team. I'm wondering if the idea is more about the long term than 2022. The Paxton move supports that idea, but I doubt Bloom is done.
  12. It is what it is. It looks like the budget is tight again, but I'm still a little baffled by the strong interest in Baez. Maybe it's more about just not liking who is out there or valuing them at significantly less than what they ended up getting and not about severe spending limits. I guess we may find out when the next signing session opens up, and we know what the CBA is. I can't say I'm happy with Paxton and Wacha, but I'm hopeful Bloom knows what he's doing. The Richards & Perez signings raise some doubts, but it's hard to find fault with a GM that helped build the farm back up to respectability much more quickly than I ever imagined (kudos to DD, too) and got us making a strong run at the AL Championship during a "rebuild year." I'm going trust he knows how to spend with a limited budget. I'm hopeful the budget will be expanded at some point- hopefully sooner rather than later. I'm pretty sure Bloom is not done, so I think I'll wait to pass judgment, but it's awfully hard to get excited over just the recent moves.
  13. I was waiting for this.
  14. I'm not alone.
  15. The Jays were active, but they arguably lost more than they added- namely Semien & Ray. There may be a moderate or big trade to come.
  16. Or, think that. Other teams were likely interested. Some may have made offers. We may never know. I'm trying to be hopeful these two do better than Richards, Perez & Andriese. It shouldn't be too hard.
  17. I was wondering why the grabbed him in the first place. I had him high on my first to DFA list.
  18. Melancon gets $6M x 2 with a $5M option for year 3 with AZ. Knebel $10M/1 with PHI.
  19. Chris Taylor re-signs with Dodgers. Thank you, LA.
  20. Where does Correa land? Story?
  21. Because Arroyo is on the IL?
  22. I can't believe we even have to say this. And really? The Sox are the only team looking at pitchers in the $7-10M range? What is happening here?
  23. I would think they could/should.
  24. So, as we stand, now, this is the 26 man roster? SP: Eovaldi, Sale, Pivetta, Wacha, Paxton (60 day IL)> Seabold/Winckowski/Crawford RP: Houck, Whitlock, Barnes, Brasier, Taylor, DHern, Davis, Sawamura C: Vaz, Plawecki 1B: Dalbec 2B: Arroyo, Arauz 3B: Devers SS: Bogey LF: Verdugo, Duran CF: Kike RF: Renfroe, Rosario/Refsnyder? DH: JD
  25. While I'm out drying, you are re-setting the cycles?
