  1. I don't ha ve any issues with Narvaez.
  2. That's two or three times he's mentioned this mystery great arm we have. If it's not Valera, it will be Fajardo or Phillips. (Witherspoon?)
  3. Mayer might be part of the KMarte trade or be dealt as part of a package for a #2SP.
  4. Good laydown, Hugh. I'd be fine with Alonso plus Polanco or Suarez. Polanco pushes Mayer/Romy to 3B and Suarez plays 3B but can move to 1B, if Casas flounders. (Mayer 3B and Romy 2B) Duran plus for Marte, along with Alonso and Suarez would cost about as much as Alonso & Bregman. (Marte adds about $12M and Suarez $18-22M.)
  5. Last winter was a great sign that things were changing. The Devers trade and Breggie opt-out kinda threw us right back to square one. The loss of Gio mattering was a bit of a surprise, but it is what it is. There is no reason to think we won't be movers and shakers this winter, but with these guys, there has to be doubts as well. I keep coming back to this, and of course we lost some deadwood, some at a high cost, but we need to replace this in kind just to look the same as 2025 on paper. I don't think anyone can say we were top competitors in '25, so we should improve on what we are replacing. 495 PAs Bregman (.821) Plus defense and clubhouse guy. 334 PAs Devers (.905) 15 HRs was on pace for 30+ 209 PAs Refsnyder (.838) Helped us greatly vs LHPs 119 PAs N Lowe (.790) Solidified the 1B position for over a month. That's over 1100 PAs and 43 HRs (23% of HRs in 18.5% of team PAs) Yes, we also lost Toto (.659 in 284 and will not see Campbell at .664 for 263 PAs, again, but these numbers of bad numbers "lost" are way less than the good ones lost.) Yes, we lost Buehler, Newcomb, Houck, Murphy and others as well as Gio (145 IP) Bernardino (52) and Wilson (48). The latter 3 were top 10 in IP. (Buehler was 4th.) For argument's sake, let's say Gray and Oviedo match what Gio & Co did, and our pen doesn't miss a beat, despite some significant losses, breaking even with winter moves on offense & defense is not a winning strategy. We need to put together an improved team on the field. I'm fine with thinking more PAs from Anthony, Mayer, Casas and maybe Abreu, Romy, Masa and perhaps better seasons by others can help, but I strongly condemn this as a major portion of the plan to improve. It should only be the gravy added to the meat. Bringing Bregman back or subbing Bichette for him is fine, but it's just a sideways move. We'd still need a significant plus somewhere. If we end up trading Duran, that's another 696 PAs at .774 to replace in kind or better. If the plan is to play Mayer full time or platoon with Romy and not add more than "Bregishette" then 1B or DH are the only slots left to make great improvements to. Suarez or Polanco aren't improvements over Bregishette, but they look to be better than Mayer, so maybe that is a way to go: Bregman (3B) or Bichette (2B) plus Polanco (2B) or Suarez (3B/1B w Mayer at 3B) Or, we trade Mayer plus for a #2 SP. Of course, Alonso checks many boxes, and maybe we slide Casas to DH or trade him, once he shows higher value, but we need something big to happen. Probably 2-3 big things.
  6. Word down here in HOU is that a trade is coming today- perhaps Jake Myers fo Bubic or Duran & Wong for Paredes & Walker Yanek
  7. I've never said Sandoval should be handed anything. I see him as ahead of all those who have to earn the 4 and 5 slots, including newly acquired Oviedo. If Sandoval looks equally as good as all the others in ST'ing. I think he'll get a slot. "I think" not know, not handed to him, not undeserved or unearned. If someone else earns it, I'd be happy for them (an us.)
  8. Teoscar is being mentioned. Duran, Harrison and Masa for Teoscar & Glasnow.
  9. Good to see Brez squeeze other GMs like DD used to be squeezed. Brez was probably squeezed on the Crochet trade, but who cares? (Same with many DD trades.)
  10. We just needed to play one more big game and lose to get in- like ALA, who jumps up with a loss. Granted, AL probably beats ND, and MIA already did, but who else did MIA beat?
  11. Don't worry Randy since the Sox will not consider a deal ANY LONGER THAN 3 YEARS AT MOST which likely takes us out of the running for KMarte. Think Polonco on a 1 yr deal or maybe Suarez if no-one else offers him 3 years or more. Haven't we seen this movie before. Interested in everyone but get no-one.
  12. Seager if the latest name.
  13. This is not the time to try and be cute. It's time to get bold and maybe brave. We built up the farm and can afford to trade some without blowing up the future, so let's get on the phones.
  14. That's pretty close to what I value Yoshida at- moneywise. $4-6M x 2 Agreed.
  15. I wouldn't pay this guy $7M x 2.
  16. You can choose to pick the best FA signing in hindsight, and say the Sale money saved helped pay for part of O'Neill's and then Chapman's deal. Or, you can say it helped JH be convinced to spend on Giolito (meh.) Or, we used the money to pay for JH's yacht crew.
  17. Word is that the Sox have not been aggressive on KMarte talks, and they want young pitchers, which we have. The whole world is checking in on KMarte. I've been high on him for a while, but the price will likely get too high for Brez to bite. I'm not high on Bregman or Bichette. To me, it has to be Alonso or K Marte. The next best option, to me is not Bregette, but rather two from this group: FA: Polonaco or Suarez Trade: Lodolo Instead, we'' probably sign Merrill Kelly and trade Duran & Harrison for Paredes. They'll be patting themselves and all 12 front office backs.
  18. I was thinking Matz might take $5-6M/1. Wow! $15M/2!
  19. Of course I don't set the market. My point is that I do not feel an 81 game stretch outweighs his 2 season decline, and he had a couple off seasons before that 3 year back good year. 117>113> 134>124>117 All it takes is one GM to get all jacked up over 81 games, and if we have to go too high to match or pass him, I'm fine with walking away. That's not to say, I want to walk away from everybody, but I would not pick Bregman or Bichette to break our streak of no long deals given out. Neither gives us the power we need. He's got a sub .800 OPS (123 OPS+) since 2020. That's good, but not great. Not $30M x 5 years great. Bichette is younger, but he has less power and even worse OPS numbers. (sub .800 and 119 OPS+ since 2020. (118 since 2022.) If some GM wants to go 5 years, have at him.
  20. Alonso should be a DH, but that's not how paying players works. 1Bmen do seem to get less, for the most part, but I think the ironman Alonso gets $30-31Mx 4 or $27-29M x 5. I doubt the Sox go 5, so they will need to max out the AAV on 4.
  21. I'd be sick to my stomach with just Suarez, Gray and Oviedo. (This from someone probably higher on Suarez than most.)
  22. Teams in on Schwarber are now looking at maximizing their Alonso offers.
  23. And you are giving them 1-2 more years, so they'll be just as old- and worse.
