  2. I've already stated I'd go $150M/6 and maybe a little more like a 7th year option for $20M with a $6M buyout, essentially making it a $156M/6 or $170M/7 deal. I don't think we can pay much more and still improve the team. I don't think $150M/6 is that far from the offer you thought would be an overpay. What's the most you might suggest we offer? (Mine is $156M/6 tops.)
  3. They lost Freeman, but I like your point. Maybe we need to start signing guys way earlier, like maybe start with Whitlock, err... wait...
  4. I'd say, before this year, they were both worth about the same- maybe JD more due to being younger. I think me saying he was worth $16-20M is pretty accurate. I don't think anyone would have paid him $22M/2, but I've been wrong before.
  5. They don't usually talk up a guy they are about to low-ball, again. Who knows, maybe they offer him $1M more than Story ($141M/6) and let him decide. Some fans might be pissed, even if we offer him $200M/8, and he walks.
  6. I don't think he was worth $22M, so I think we'd have had to include $2-7M to get a team to just take his contract. Maybe $6M was high, but I doubt anyone would have taken him ay $22M/1. Just my opinion.
  7. But, how many posters suggested we do that after 2021 (or before?) We'd probably have had to include some money just to get nothing back, or give a prospect similar to the Ottavino & German for nothing deal. Would it have been worth trading JD + $6M for nothing, and then sign Schwarber? Even in hindsight, I'm not so sure. At any rate Sox Nation would have been irate!
  8. I'm looking for someone we could sign, this winter. Are you saying he won't be offered arb and may be a FA?
  9. I'd just like a name of someone we can get for next year for less than $10M, and who is as good or better than Kike. I'll be driving his bandwagon, too.
  10. Abreu and Valdez were far from Houston's 39th and 40th prospects.
  11. It's more than just this time. Almost anytime someone praises him, you throw shade on him. You have a right to your opinion, and I'm sure you are not the only one who doesn't like Kike as much as I do, but you just seem equally passionate as I am about his value and skillset. I don't see that on many other Sox players that people like or praise. I realize our roles are reversed on other players like Vaz, and maybe you wonder why I'm always throwing shade on him. Fair enough. That's part of what makes this place interesting.
  12. He might even fall down with a heart attack.
  13. Ahhh, I remember the specifics, now. Yes. BTW, for all we know, this contract he just signed might be a lifetime contract.
  14. That goes for Betts, too, but I know your issue was about thye return not the idea of trading him. I agree, if we are sure we will not re-sign these stars, we should trade them before they are just rentals (some on the IL.)
  15. My guess is he will make more than $10M/1 as a FA. BTW, here are his positional values on defense: -0.4 2B (14 DRS) 4402 innings +5.8 LF (8 DRS) in 830 innings -0.9 RF (0 DRS) in 313 innings -12.9 CF (0 DRS( in just 69 innings +5.6 3B (0 DRS) just 26 innings -197.8 (SS) just 25 innings Kike: +8.5 CF (20 DRS) in 2445 innings -5.7 2B (17 DRS) in 1668 innings +18 LF (15 DRS) in 603 innings +10.7 SS (8 DRS) in 602 innings (Could he be our next SS?) +11.9 RF (3 DRS) in 343 innings -28.4 3B (0 DRS) in 155 innings +17.4 1B (-1 DRS) in 89 innings OPS+ Career 98 Kike 99 AF 2018-2022 98 Kike 99 AF 2019-2022 93 Kike 96 AF 2020-2022 96 Kike 95 AF 2021-2022 98 Kike & AF Playoffs .900 Kike in 194 PAs n/a AF in 0 PAs)
  16. Okay, but the question at hand was what CF'er is available for $10M or less than is a better choice than Kike. I'm okay with bringing up past signings, but not someone who cannot be a FT CF'er. Just my opinion.
  17. I just don't think he'd be worth $18M in 2024. I will say that if the plan is to reset after 2024, and going over by a lot is okay in 2023, then these type of 1 year deals might be workable. (Yes, not at the expense of adding better pitching.) Piling up comp picks would be nice, too.
  18. I can't remember specifically if I said he was too much overpaid. I remember having to come up with a very complicated platoon and rotation plan to get everyone the amount of PAs they were expected to get, although Schwarber could have taken all of Dalbec, Cordero's and other players' PAs, in hindsight. (Hell, even JD's post May.) I really liked Scwarber, and was okay with trading JD (plus cash) to make room for him, but I'm not sure the money we'd have to have paid the team taking JD plus the Schwarber contract would have been worth the longer term investment. I seem to recall you being critical of posters wanting him back, but forgive me, if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure you said something about posters wanting to "sign Schwarber for life."
  19. I admire the attempt to find a comp, and in many ways, it's a good one, but we need a CF'er and RF'er for 2024. I doubt Bloom would even kick Frazier's tires, unless he thinks he could play 2B and Story SS. BTW, I also think Frasier gets $10M/1 or more and will not be as a CF'er.
  20. There is nobody else they could sign to take away the pain of letting him go. If Judge went to the Mets, signing Nimmo, deGrom and Bogey would not be enough to quiet the riot.
  21. I can't help but think Bloom would have been bashed harshly had he traded Bogey and or JD or Nate a year or two ago. Perhaps you would have been among the bashers, but only complaining about the return- not the trades, themselves. Also, we may get some comp picks our of some of the expiring contracts. Whoopdee-freakin-doo! We should have traded at least JD and Nate at the deadline, if not earlier.
  22. It's one year. Maybe not spending big on a better CF'er will mean we get a better pitcher, RF'er or can afford Bogey.
  23. And understanding the Sox position on wanting plus D in CF and RF, as evidenced by the JBJ trade, I don't think Frazier is a realistic comp to Kike in CF.
  24. I sincerely think that had Duran been a capable CF'er on D and hit well enough to be slotted as our 2024 CF, something I never thought would happen, so I'm not sure why it matters, here, we'd still have signed Kike for $10M/1. We still need an OF'er and 2B/SS, and Kike plays all very well on D and is more than okay on O. BTW, I have no problem with anyone not valuing some players as highly as I do, but you seem to go out of your way to show he is worth less than many others feel he is worth. I wonder what the majority of Sox Nations feels about Kike.
  25. Do you think career WAR and total games means more than a player's previous 2, 3 or 5 season numbers? Do you think this year's WAR is more important than a player's previous 2,3, 4 or 5 season numbers? I'm just curious, because you seem to only post those two WAR numbers, and IMO, a player's career trend matters more to GMs than what you did over a short and recent sample size or what you did early in your career, sometime 6, 7 or 10+ years ago. I'm not bashing you, but genuinely want to know.
