  1. Maybe Bieber, who has 2 years left? (57.8 on BTV) Marlins 119.8 Alcantara (5 yrs) 68.8 Perez (minors) 40.2 Rogers (4) 35.3 Lopez (2) 22.1 Luzardo (3) 15.9 Garrett (5) Some Sox BTV values: 55.4 Mayer (minors) 44.3 Whitlock (6) 39.7 Casas (minors) 31.5 Bello (minors) 29.9 Devers (1) 21.3 Houck (5) 18.8 Schreiber (4) 15.1 Rafaela (minors) 12.1 Yorke (minors) 11.3 Verdugo (2) 8.7 Bleis (minors) 8.7 Romero (minors) 6.6 W Gonzalez (minors) 6.5 Coffey (minors) 5.9 Duran (5) 5.8 Pivetta (2) 5.6 Lugo & Walter (minors) 5.0 Jordan (minors)
  2. I'm not saying I agree with their numbers, but that is what the numbers are based on. I'm not sure that number is way off. No GM knows what a player will do "next year," but if they knew they get a 2021 Eovaldi on a 1 year deal, he'd get more than $30M, IMO. Maybe $35M+.
  3. Did you read the opening post of this thread? I'm not going to go look for the post, but someone actually argued that Bloom could have convince Henry to spend more to keep Betts. I don't think it was Swi or some other poster, but it happened. I'm pretty sure more than one person has blamed Bloom for trading Betts, and not about the return.
  4. I've heard differing opinions on Story's arm. He looks great at 2B, so I'd prefer not messing that up. If we can't get Bogey to take $150M/6- maybe $156M/6 or $165M/7, I'd go for Swanson. I would not go super large and long on Turner or Correa.
  5. BTV makes adjustments several times a year.
  6. They are FA Market values, not based on average MLB cost.
  7. With Kike in CF, where he is better than 2B, I don't see the need to add two top quality OF'ers. I'd like to, but we need OF + 2B/SS mor ethan 2 OF'ers. I don't think we spend big on DH or 1B/DH, either.
  8. Revisit this long-running thread: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/19692-Mookie-Betts-and-David-Price-have-been-traded-to-Dodgers/page56
  9. Others have, and you and others have complained about the return, a lot, despite information that has shown not much better was offered, although we'll never know if other, better offers were ever made. At the time of the trade, many blamed Bloom for not "finding a way" to keep him. Some even said things like, "He should have convinced Henry to pay him."
  10. So has Bloom.
  11. So, Kike to 2B and Story to SS? I'd keep Kike in CF, sign Nimmo for RF and get a 2B/SS somehow (Swanson or KWong?)
  12. I think Bloom will always look for several 1 year deals, but this winter, I'm thinking he will go 3 or more years on at least 2 players- probably 3. Unless these contracts are huge, we should be a ble to re-sign Devers, especially if we reset in 2023.
  13. He's certainly in the bubble. While his BA hardly improved from 2021, his OBP (+.044) and SLG (+.079) did. I think he gets another chance or is traded. He will not be DFA'd.
  14. I'm excited about this winter. Even if we spend right up to the tax line without going over, it's a lot of money. Unlike Ben, I think Bloom will pull the trigger on one big prospect for cost-controlled ML talent to fill one slot- most likely a top of rotation spot. I'm still enjoying this season, and look for ward to every Bello and Wacha start. I'm into watching McGuire and Wong. I'd like to see Refsnyder full time. I enjoy watching Kike in CF. I'd like to see Arroyo play everyday. I also greatly appreciate Bogey's improved D at SS and Devers at 3B. I think we have a nice core of players to work with- many that are not stars but who do what needs to be done- like Dugo and Pivetta. The team's record sucks, but as a fan, I see things to be optimistic about.
  15. They were a loaded team, but Brady gave them the confidence they needed. I don't think they win without him.
  16. I believe you, but I do think you tend to think their views reflect the views of Red Sox nation, as a whole. You sure mention them, a lot.
  17. It had a lot to do with not being able to call up capable prospects. It had a lot to do with not being able to spend more on a closer, pen depth and a RH'd hitting OF'er. It had a lot to do with one massive hole in the rotation: Sale, himself. Plus, the 3 first place finishes got us lower draft picks for 3 years straight.
  18. Because the listen to Sports Talk radio?
  19. So, if we add 5 new players, your list of goners is Chang, Almonte, Brasier, Cordero & Downs. (I think we keep Downs a little longer and let one RP'er go. I'd pick Ort.)
  20. It certainly would be selling low. I don't think we trade Hosmer or Dalbec, until we know Casas can be our FT 1Bman- maybe May 2023, at the earliest?
  21. It would be interesting to see the list of departed Sox players Nate did not lament over.
  22. I'd think not at all.
  23. CERA Hill in 2022 3.70 w Plawecki 4.40 w Vaz 8.25 w McGuire Nate 4.05 w Plawecki (3.39 career) 4.98 w Vaz (4.64 career) Maybe Wacha is not too happy, either: 1.77 w Plawecki 3.75 w Vaz And Whitlock 2.89 w Plawecki (but 3.49 career) 3.42 w Vaz(but 2.40 career) Pivetta may have been quiet for a reason 4.02 w Vaz (but 4.55 career) 5.17 w Plawecki (but 3.39 career)
  24. Out of those 13, I think we keep these: Barnes: pay him to pitch here not elsewhere, and hope he returns to 2018-2019 form (not early 2021.) Downs: cut him some slack. Maybe missing 2020 hurt some guys more than others. Hosmer: the guy is free and is better than Dalbec/Cordero, anyway. Dalbec: still has options and until casas proves he's a keeper, we'll want to have more choices. Not so sure: Cordero; only because our OF depth is shallow Kelly & Danish: only because our pen depth is shallow Seabold: had good numbers in AAA and probably deserves a second chance That leaves 5, Brasier, Almonte, Ort, Chang and Bazardo, which happens to be about how many players we will add to fill our 5 major need areas: 2B/SS RF SP SP/RP RP If we add 6 or 7, we can find room. The Paxton and Pham options weigh in on these numbers, too.
