Yes, you've let us know that opinion, and I don't disagree, but Bloom, Cora and JH are certainly thinking far ahead. In this case, he here and now won out, for the most part, although many fans were still pissed they didn't make some big trades, so I guess in that sense the long term won out.

I would think, if they came to him and said we are trading 5 guys, so do you want to be traded, he might have said yes. Certainly he may have said no, and we'd still have been under the tax line. They could also have said, "We aren't going higher than $150M/6, so if that helps you decide about staying or not, so be it.

Agreed, and if he knew we were trading Nate, JD and maybe Wacha, Hill and Strahm, he'd have likely okay'd a deal.

Bogey has a no trade clause. Kike was being brought back- maybe Wacha will, if not yes, they could have traded him, too. Strahm, too. Plawecki was not tradeable.

Either way, he'll be on the 40. We did not trade Vaz to lose this guy.

Well, Hosmer is better than Dalbec on O and D and is as cheap as can be. Dalbec likely has more trade value due to his age and upside potential. I actually think all 3 will be on the 40 on opening day.

We aren't spending a dime on 1B, this winter. We have too many higher needs. Hosmer> Dalbec Hosmer> Cordero. That's all there is to the choice.

Yes. I said the trades improved us for 2023 and 2024- a rare feat by any GM. McGuire > Vaz and has team control for 2 more years Hosmer> Dalbec and is basically free for 2-3 more years. Pham > Cordero and has a 2024 option. Dumping Diekman's 2024 contract cost was a plus, too, for 2024. Almonte and Chang have even done well in tiny sample sizes. I like what Bloom did, except not cutting enough salary to get under the line. Wait until 2025 and or 2026, and tell me you are happy we didn't get under the line in 2023.

We weren't 100% out of it, and there were hopes that players returning from injury might make the difference, but IMO, we were done weeks before the deadline. I felt it was over, even before July 22nd, when I started the 2024 thread, but I waited about as long as I could. Had we traded JD and Nate, we'd have been under the tax line.

Oh, I understand why they did what they did, but I don't have to agree, and didn't at the time, too. They played it halfway, which almost never works. They did improve the 2023 and 2024 team, so I'm not pissed, but getting under the tax line should have happened- regardless.

If Plawecki will not be back in 2024. We need to play Wong and McGuire. I'd even think about calling up R Hern. Baseball is not always kind. Plawecki had to go.

He'd be part of the DH rotation and not much at 1B, if at all, assuming he wins a 26 slot.

I disagree. I think we keep Hosmer until May 2024, at the earliest. We may trade Dalbec or Casas. (Cordero might be gone, too.)

Getting under the tax line would have been a big plus. Unless we re-sign Bogey, keeping him made little sense, to me. (He'd have had to okay a trade.) Trading JD or Nate or both made more sense.

The Pham/Hosmer deals cost us just about nothing, and we got Ferguson and Rosier with Hosmer. Pham has an option for 2023 and maybe a decent 4th OF'er or platoon DH. The McGuire deal was brilliant. The Vaz deal looks fine. The two prospects are hitting very well, this year, and Abreu lead the minors in BBs, while stealing over 30 bases. Enmanuel Valdez will likely see the bigs in 2024.

He's likely better than Dalbec & Cordero, so my guess is, he stays around, at least until we find out more about Casas.

I think we will go with a 1B/DH rotation/platoon type situation with Casas, Hosmer, Dalbec, Cordero, Arroyo and Enmanuel Valdez in the mix to win opening day slots. (Maybe Pham, if the option is accepted.) Arroyo will be on the 26, if healthy as the utility back-up player who might DH, at times. Nobody else on this list really has a slot 100% locked up.

They are very good. They are not as good as the team that started the year and not as bad as the team that is playing, now.

Ultimately, the Yanks didn't have a fluky start, they were dominant because they put the ball in play, hit homeruns but also played small ball and pitched better than everyone. The Yanks were never that good. They also are not this bad, either.

2 weeks is not really enough to "find out more" about anyone, but if he went red hot over that time period, I think his trade stock might be higher, and maybe a platoon DH may be tried to start the 2024 season, so why not?

He has hit .544 for them. He has started 19 games out of 43, so he is not really even their FT starter.

I disagree. This team seemed to be going nowhere in July (8-19). I started the 2023 thread on July 22nd. IMO, it was all but over by then.
