  1. Jack Winnay promoted to AA. He leads the farm in BBs with 53. He has 11 HRs and an .891 OPS.
  2. Sonny Gray says he's open to conversations about his no trade clause.
  3. American League Team fWAR Rankings by Position Sox are ranked... 3rd at 1B (2.3) 3rd in CF (2.0) 3rd in RF (1.9) 8th at C at 0.8 9th at 3B (1.1) 9th in LF (0.7) 13th at DH (-0.8) 15th at SS (-0.1) 15th at 2B (-0.1) (12th overall at 7.9) __________________ 2nd RP (2.7) 9th SP (5.8) (6th overall at 8.5- just 0.1 from a tie for 4th)
  4. Anybody who saw the Devers incident, when the Giants sent in a PR'er for him at 1B has to be thankful he's gone. Very sad.
  5. Do the facts of the Sox history of drafting high-middle-low matter?
  6. When we traded Devers, I thought Harrison was the prize of the return, but they must not have liked what they saw of him while at AAA. They went and traded for May and Matz rather than call him up. Trading him may not have been more about "giving up on him" as the need and or like of getting Durbin and infield depth with Monasterio & Seigler, but clearly they didn't value him as highly as Dustin May. BTW, it's not like Kyle never got a look-see. He was called up in 2023 and started 7 games. He started 24 games in 2024 and saw less action in 2025 w SFG, too. They must have soured on something, too, even before they traded him. Maybe it was the fact that he just wasn't doing very well. He had a career 1.297 WHIP w SFG in 183 IP. BOS+SFG> MIL ERA: 4.39>2.50 ERA+: 91>167 FIP: 4.43>3.04 WHIP 1.315>1.056 BB/9: 3.1>2.3 K/9: 8.8>10.9
  7. Well, if AAA hitters are batting that much as 3Bmen, then that is a reason 3B is in decline. More of one than Durbin.
  8. The last few major SS Free Agents signings have probably done worse than any other position. $M 365/12 Betts (not signed as SS & doing poorly in 2026) 341/10 Lindor (.796 w NYM and .669 in 2026) 325/10 Seager (.854 w TEX is great, but only over 125 gms once i 4+ yrs) 300/11 T Turner (.769 w PHI & .608 in 2026) 275/11 Bogaerts (OPS+ from 117 to 102 w SDP & .695 since '24)
  9. Assuming we trade IKF and Wong. We trade Duran or cut Yoshida loose. Story does not play the rest of '26 and Anthony & Romy return. Barring new injuries, the roster might end like this: C Gasper & Narvaez 1B Contreras 2B Romy SS Mayer 3B Durbin LF Duran or Anthony/Yoshida CF Rafaela RF Abreu DH Anthony or Yoshida UT Seigler, Eaton, Monasterio/Sogard
  10. The Cubs and Sox both had their chances to lock him up at a better rate than he ended up earning afterwards. He is a perfect batter for Fenway (and everywhere else.)
  11. Durbin's career SLG is .369- not far from the league average at 3B.
  12. 2025-2026 Starting Pitchers (a53 have 110+ IP) 8 Suarez 6.3 10 Crochet 6.1 13 Sale & Ryan 5.8 24 Nate 4.7 25 Gray & Pivetta 4.6 RP'er (100 pitchers with 80+ IP) 4. Chapman 3.6 7. Whitlock 2.9 64. Weissert 0.7
  13. Agreed. Maybe several sample sizes should be given each time. Guys like Durbin have not been around long, so giving his 2025, career and most recent ___ PAs is probably enough.
  14. How about this cherry-picked sample size? 2025-2026 fWAR (354 players with 300+ PAs) 7.4 Schwarber #15 6.1 Rafaela & KMarte #30 5.9 Hoerner #33 (sucking in '26) 5.8 CJ Abrams #36 5.4 Alonso #39 5.1 Willson #49 5.0 Bregman #51 4.6 Neto & Bichette #62 4.4 Bogey #70 4.3 Duran #76 4.2 B Lowe & Mookie #80 4.1 Abreu #81 3.8 Paredes Willy Adams & Arraez #88 3.7 Devers #98 3.4 Donovan & O'Hearn #104 3.3 Josh Naylor 3.2 Durbin, E Suarez #118 3.0 Anthony #122 (just 433 PAs) 2.9 Narvaez #124 2.7 Meidroth 2.5 Story #136 (The Sox 8th player in the top 40% of players.) ..... #177 IKF and Teel 1.8 #184 Arenado & Matt Shaw 1.7 #193 Okamoto 1.6 (no 2025) #273 Mayer 0.5 #334 Yoshida -0.4
  15. I'm not sure why full season matters more than last 2-3 seasons, especially when PAs may vary wildly from one player to another. I mean, I get why, but full season is cherry-picked, too.
  16. Agreed, but it's funny you trust the Sox to break their tradition on doing better with lower picks. "Historical data" shows the Sox suck with higher picks: 2020 to 2025 (Post DD era) All Top 10: 4 Mayer (2021) 12 Montgomery (traded) 14 Teel (traded) 15 Witherspoon 17 Yorke All Top 11-30: 24 Romero All 31-60 33 Phillips 41 C Coffey (traded) 50 Tolle 50 Zanetello Selected 61+ (2025>2024>2023...) 75 Godbout, 87 Eyanson 86 Neeley, 148 Clarke 83 A Anderson, 132 KC, 151 Early 79 Anthony, 129 Meidroth, 189 Hoppe (traded) 279 Brannon, 369 Mullins 40 Fabian (did not sign) 556 Uberstine 89 Jordan (traded) 118 Wu-Yelland, 148 Drohan (traded) Ben & DD notables: 7 Benintendi (2015) 7 Trey Bell (2013) 12 Groome & 118 Dalbec(2016) 24 Houck & 491 K Crawford (2017) 26 Casas & 220 Duran (2018) 26 Chavis & 33 Kopech 2014
  17. The jury is still out on "getting it right" or not on many of Brez's draft picks and IFAs. 2024: 12 Montgomery (part of Crochet trade) 50 Tolle (looks great, so far) 86 Neely (meh) 115 Ehrhard (traded) 237 Cason (TBD) 267 Hudson White (TBD) 297 Futrell (TBD) 2025 15 Witherspoon (TBD) 33 Phillips (TBD) 75 Godbout (TBD) 87 Eyanson (Could be the major steal of the draft) 118 Mason White (TBD) 178 Finley, 238 Brown, 328 B Morgan & 388 Winnay TBD IFAs $10K for Primera could be the steal of the decade. $40K Azocar (looking real good) $500K Delzine & Ramos(TBD) $950K Rivas (TBD) $1.2M Brito (TBD) $1.4M Soto & Silverio (TBD)
  18. I wish we knew what teams offered for Duran. (Maybe we'd all have said no.)
  19. 3B is no longer the slugging position it once was. If Durbin can play near GG defense at 3B and hit over .750, he'll be okay, as long as we add two big bats somewhere else (DH? SS/2B? C?) 3B still slugs more than 2B & SS but not by a lot. SLG in MLB by position '24>'25>'26 .393>.397>.386 3B .411>.404>.390 SS .374>.371>.386 2B (same as 3B, this year!)
  20. Mayer is already a plus defender. He's missed a lot of development time due to injuries, so a longer leash on the bat makes sense. I hope he can get to .750+ on a consistent basis, and maybe even near .800. I suppose he could do even better, and that would be gravy.
  21. Maybe having a set rotation for the next 5 years. Of course, having and needing SP'er depth should always be a concern and priority. For 2027, our SP'er depth might not need any additions, but that is relying on returning IL pitchers. The plan? Crochet replaces Gray Houck, Crawford & Oviedo Bello to pen? Eyanson, Holobetz, Uberstine, Wehunt, Paez, Rivera, Anderson (AA in 2027? Witherspoon, Phillips, Brown, Futrell, Ingrassia) Is that enough? On the everyday side of the ledger, some serious work and re-working needs to be done, and the interesting thing is that only IKF is not under team control for 2027. Some major decisions need to be made that include moving on from some players, either by trading them or demoting them to the bench or AAA depth. DFA'ing Yoshida may also be an option. Dumping Story could be another. Trading Duran will be the hot issue, once again, if he's not dealt at this deadline. C: _____________ Narvaez & Gasper (Trade Wong?) 1B: Contreras & Romy 2B/3B: _____________, Durbin & Mayer (platoon?) Romy SS: ______________, Mayer (or Arias?) LF: Anthony (Duran?) CF: Rafaela RF: Abreu DH: ____________, (Yoshida/Duran/Anthony?) I am certain Brez & Co. will not be adding 4 major pieces, this summer/winter, and probably adding 3 is a stretch. Adding two might be barely enough, if both are big bats. We'll still need others to do better than 2026 to win.
  22. I agree on Arias, but it's hard to know without seeing him play. I am certain an Arias-Mayer keystone combo would be better on D than one with Story. (I'm okay with Story's D at 2B, but I don't see him as an overall plus going forward.)
