  1. Word came out that DD almost traded him in 2019, but we won a few games, and they changed their minds about being sellers. That's enough for me to think he was a goner, as much as I hate just thinking about that, even now. The reported interest in trading for him seemed abnormally low, and the one offer from the Padres seemed worse than the one we got. That whole situation was the beginning of the end. Keeping Betts and letting Sale and or Nate bolt would have been better, but I still make the point that if JH slashed the budget like he did- Betts or no Betts, we'd still have been a bid team from 2020 to whenever...
  2. Sure: Yoshida and 80% of his contract- one for one.
  3. I do remember some viewing the trade as trading one year of Betts, since we were "going to lose him anyway," and 3-4 years of Verdugo might be worth it, alone. The promise of Jeter Downs turned sour, quickly. But hey, we still have Connor WONG! (We have Weissert for Verdugo, too.)
  4. I have been considering taking a break from this site, as well. I'm sure that would please a few.
  5. Not a single soul in Sox Nation uttered those words.
  6. Arias found his power: 2 dingers and 3 hits. He's at 1.066. Holobetz found his groove, again, too. 6IP 5 Hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 6K
  7. Yes, Gio was healthy when we signed him, as was Kluber and Richards. I could have mentioned Wacha and Hill, but they did okay. My point was not just about signing injured or injury prone pitchers, of which Gio was neither, but also the shorter term, bargain basement types, instead of just investing in a 5 year deal.
  8. I thought Harrison was the highest value player in return for Devers, but they never really let him get a chance. My guess is we look back at this trade in 3-4 years and say, "Meh."
  9. These sort of signing have been such a blight. In theory, signing one guy for $100M x 5 should work better than... $39M/2 Giolito $19M/2 Sandoval $10M/1 Richards $10M/1 Kluber $10M/1 Paxton $10M/2 Hendriks
  10. As bad as the AL looked before the year even started, if you felt the Sox improved, 90 wins did not seem so absurd. Oh what 6-7 weeks can do!
  11. Pre 2024, I used to say I'll take 9 last place finishes for just one ring.
  12. Today: MIN at BOS (Tolle v Prielipp) TBR @ NYY Saturday: MIN (??? Bello, Bennett, Pen Game???) Sunday: MIN (Gray) OFF Monday Tuesday: ATL@ BOS (Suarez) Wednesday: ATL@ BOS (Early) Thursday: ATL@ BOS (Tolle) Friday>> BOS @ CLE (Gray, ____, Suarez...)
  13. With Bello, we only added 1 year of control. With Anthony, KC & Rafaela I think it was 3 more with options.
  14. The mighty Jays won, again. They have one batter over .749. We thought our offense needed a big bat.
  15. I think Cole starts for the Yanks, tomorrow.
  16. I always loved the smell of primo weed. I don't crave or miss the buzz. The weed these days is so potent, it sometimes makes me feel jittery. Going so long between toking makes the effects more intense, so I try to not overdo it.
  17. I think Paredes, without giving up any useful MLB talent would be enough to get us to the dance, but not as a top favorite. This could be the year, anything goes once the dance begins.
