  1. Signing Wacha or Cleninger would not be what I call a "pipedream." Signing Severino would be a nightmare.
  2. Yes, I read your post on D, and I'm not against adding him. Gurriel is a RHB. He is much better on D. Here is another O comp: Career: 115 OPS+ Gurriel 105 OPS+ Dugo 2020-2023: 113 OPS+ Gurriel 105 OPS+ Dugo 2023: 108 OPS+ Gurriel 100 OPS+ Dugo I'm all for signing Gurriel and trading Dugo.
  3. I thought he was as good as gone, before this.
  4. Bowl Rankings & games remaining: 1. Ohio St. (Mich St, MN, @#3 Mich) 2. Georgia (#9 Ole Miss, @ GA Tech) 3. Michigan (#10 @ Penn St., @MD, #1 Ohio St) 4. FSU (MIA Fl, @ FLA) 5. Wash (#18 Utah, @#12 Ore St., Wash St.) 1 loss teams 6. Oregon (USC, #12 Ore St.) 7. Texas (@TCU, @IA St., TX Tech) 8. Alabama (@ KY, @AUB) 9. Ole Miss (@#2 GA, ULM, @MS St.) 10. Penn St. (#3 Mich, @ Mich St) 11. Louisville (VA, @MIA Fl, KY) Then Conference championships games.
  5. Who was the fool who brought up this guy's name? We don't need another DH!!!
  6. Since 2004, who is 4th on the most IP list for the Sox, behind Lester, Wake and Beckett? Just IP after 2004... A) ERod Porcello C) Buchholz D) Lackey (Note: the #4 guy is over 200 IP ahead of #5.)
  7. Do you know that among Sox players from 2004 to today, with 420+ PAs, Refsnyder has the 8th best OBP at .373? Out of the top 10 with 1,000+ PAs, which does not belong? Manny, Papi, Youk, Agon, Betts, Damon, Pedey, JD Drew, Millar and Nixon. (Note: Mueller belongs on the list.)
  8. Since 2004, the Sox leader in ISO with 350+ PAs is, surprisingly, Duvall at .284. Name the one player with 1,000+ PAs who is not in the top 5: Manny, Ortiz, JD, Betts & Devers (Note: Moreland is top 5! Bobby Dee missed top 7 by 49 PAs! Salty is 7th!)))
  9. Since our magical 2004 season, which player does not belong on this top 10 wRC+ list? 550+ PAs 148 Manny 147 Papi 140 Beltre 138 AGon 135 Betts 134 J Bay 134 JD M 130 Youk 128 Casas 123 Devers (Note: VMart belongs in the top 10.)
  10. He's as good as gone.
  11. Gurriel: 115 OPS+ career (113+ since 2020.) 2023: 108 Gurriel 109 Yoshida
  12. The fact that he DH'd more than he caught over the last two seasons, you have talked me out of the idea.
  13. Framing Skills: 2023: 28. McGuire +1 (15th in 2022 at +3) 47. Wong -4
  14. Statcast has Wong at 15th in "pop time" out of 60 catchers with 15 attampts at 2B. McGuire was T37th In 2022, Wong was 7th and McGuire was 28th.
  15. 2023 OAA Catchers SB's: 6. Wong +5 25. Garver 0 38. McGuire -1 2022-2023 (82 catchers with Min 20 SB attempts) 10. Wong +5 T24. McGuire+2 T36 Garver 0 2022-2023 Blocking (70 qualified): 40. McGuire -1 46. Garver -4 63. Wong -10
  16. He was hurt and maybe playing hurt, right? (I know that's often the excuse used.)
  17. I hope they never change their top decision makers.
  18. He has about the same CS% as Wong & McGuire- career and in 2023.
  19. I'm not sure what anyone has Garver's contract projected to, but I think he should get more than $20M/2. Maybe something like $33M/3 or or $25M/2 min. I'm liking him, more and more.
  20. IMO, they will move Soto.
  21. Agreed, and they could DH the other games. We'd lose the DH, if we ever had to move the DH to catcher in a game, but that would only happen due to an injury. I doubt either would ever need to be PH for.
  22. BTV does not claim any equal value match-up means a trade can or might be made. It does provide some semblance of what sort of vlaue would be needed to maike a trade possible, but yes, both sides have to agree to the return value being right, and have a need to make a change. They have been remarkably accurate on actual trades made, when it comes to balancing the two values. They miss some, by a lot, but they do a pretty good job.
  23. I said "might," but yes, I should not have mentioned him.
  24. Everyone hates Ks, but give me a guy who hits 25+ bombs and has a .350+ OBP (even .340, these days) and I won't care about his K%. Players with 45+ HRs since 2021 and an OBP% above .340: 99 Judge .417 88 Olsen .357 78 Ohtani .383 75 Riley .347 74 Betts .375 68 Alvarez .407 66 Seager .349 62 Machado .344 62 Soto .406 60 Goldschmidt .383 60 Devers .354 59 Tucker .350 58 Trout .368 58 Vlad Jr .341 56 Acuna .389 53 J Ram .355 50 Freeman .408 48 Bregman .364 45 Altuve .390 Close: 93 Schwarber .333 86 Alonso .335 69 Walker .330 60 J Rod .338 57 Lindor .337 57 Muncy .331 56 Arenado .337 51 B Reynolds .337 51 Paredes .333 49 JD M .332 49 Soler ..325 49 Torres .330 47 T Turner .331 47 Swanson .328 (GG winner) 46 Springer .334 44 N Lowe .359 44 Rizzo .333 44 Chapman .327 44 Bichette .336 43 W Smith .351 43 Arozarena .346 42 Contreras .354 40 Nimmo .365
  25. It does seem easier to find a good RHB for RF than 2B. I tried to avoid that part of the equation by wording my question the way I did, but that is a reality. Garver could be an option for that RHB, which would mean we could focus on pitching only, and roll the dice at 2B and OF with what we have (or swap Duvall for Dugo and double up on improving our RHBs.)
